Chapter 4

Roy did not remember the novel all at once.

The memories came slowly, like ink bleeding into water—details sharpening as his hunger worsened, as Luna’s breathing grew thinner, as reality forced his mind to focus. At first, it had just been fragments: a powerful CEO, a runaway Omega, a child who never mattered.

Roy sat quietly beside Luna while she slept, watching the rise and fall of her chest. Her lips were dry. Her fingers twitched occasionally, even in rest, like her body never truly relaxed.

'Mike never looked for her,' he thought.

But not because he didn’t care.

Because he was lied to.

In the novel, Luna disappeared without a word. She never went back, never contacted anyone, never explained herself. Roy remembered being angry at the CEO when he first read it—angry that a man with endless power could be so careless.

But now, he remembered the rest of the novel.

Mia.

Mia had appeared shortly after Luna vanished. Confident. Calm. Pregnant.

She told Mike she was the one he had been with.

She told him the child was his.

And Mike… believed her.

Roy closed his eyes slowly.

'He didn’t even do a DNA test'.

Why would he? In the novel, Leo was born an Alpha—strong, dominant, perfect. Everything the family wanted. The grandmother accepted him instantly. There was no reason to doubt Mia’s claim. No reason to look back.

Luna, an Omega with no background, no status, no courage to fight—vanished quietly from the story.

“And because of that,” Roy murmured, “we died.”

The truth didn’t make him angry. It made him focused.

Roy looked down at Luna again. She had skipped meals again today. He knew because she’d smiled too quickly when he asked, or maybe he had experienced it too. Because she’d pushed the last piece of bread toward him without hesitation.

She stirred suddenly, eyes fluttering open.

“Roy…?” she whispered. “Did I wake you?”

“No,” Roy said immediately. “Go back to sleep.”

She smiled weakly. “Mama’s just tired.”

Lie.

Her eyes closed again almost instantly.

Roy waited. Counted her breaths. When they finally evened out, he carefully stood and pulled an old jacket over her shoulders. It was too big for him, but it covered her well.

“I’ll fix this,” he whispered.

He didn’t know if fate could be changed.

But he knew one thing.

If Mike saw him—really saw him—then the lie would crack.

Roy turned toward the door.

And left alone.
