WHO AM I? The Journey of a Lifetime
"See you in your afterlife", a harsh voice spoke and the sound of a gun accompanies it.
...****************...
The cries of a young boy are heard through the window of a hospital. The hospital was a large one and one of its VIP wards joy is filled in the air. You might be wondering, why was the news of my birth so pleasing to hear? Soon enough the echoes of my cries died down and the unexpected happened. I fell into a coma!
The shock left everyone speechless. A word didn't dare utter. Never in the history of men had a baby ever fallen into a coma right after birth. Right after joy; tears. The corridors fell silent. Only the wails of my mother wandered through. Doctors were pacing, pros were being called, pieces of equipment were being rushed in. Emptiness had revived into a state of emergence.
...****************...
18 years later the first words that crossed through my ears were "Everything was just a mistake about him". I was stunned, but my head couldn't find space for anger. Suddenly, doctors and nurses rushed in each with equipment. I was ready to take a nap and wake up with the same welcome I had when I first came to this word, but that was a dream that could only live forever in my head.
Awoken from my 'nap', I saw a doctor talking to a couple sitting devastated on chairs before leaving. I thought I had had enough time sleeping, so I sat up. As I did, I could feel my long hair follow up. I had a headache and the couple quickly leapt to their feet. The woman was in tears, but the man moved forward and cupped my face with his hands, clear rage in his eyes. The woman hugged me again and again. She was just wetting my hair with tears.
After a while she stopped crying and they moved a few steps away from me. "We.... we're your parents", the man muttered. I was shocked, I held my head and dragged my hair the person who said I was a mistake had the same voice.
I sat on the edge of the bed and stood up. I felt so little and heavy. Like my legs couldn't control me anymore. My movement felt strange. At a point, I fell to the ground and my hair followed suit, flying through the air like a bird before descending. The couple rushed to lift me up. I stood up once more and I was so short, or did I think I was. I mustered a 'thank you', I didn't know what part of my body it came from. All I knew was that I was in no way grateful...yet.
Later, the doctor was called. He examined me and gave me something called 'pills' saying I was so lucky to have survived whatever it was that I was suffering from. Not my fault I was new to this world.
I was discharged quickly. Guess the hospital didn't want me around much. The couple took me out of the hospital and bought a cookie for me. Not sure it was legal to take it from complete strangers but I took it anyways. I nodded in appreciation and collected it. They smiled watching me eat which freaked me out, but I didn't show it. Instead, I put on a fake smile like a child who just got reunited with their parents.
They booked a cab which took 'us' to 'our' home. Strange, right? It was a huge mansion with a gigantic gate. We walked into the compound and the woman held my hand, took me into the building then said, "call me mom and this is home". She smiled pulling me up the stairs, "C'mon now, let's get you dressed".
She took me to a room she called mine, and told me to take a bath while she picked out some clothes for me.
When bathing I had some concerns about my body, but I figured I could deal with that later. She gave me a pink shirt, and black jeans to change into. While doing so, the man she told me to address as dad called on her and she excused herself.
I walked up to the mirror and pulled my hand through my long brown hair. The fringe was close to blinding me. Then something in me opened up. Even though I was in a coma, I still had basic knowledge, or so I thought. I asked myself "Who am I?". The question echoed down my whole body.
Likewise, I walked up to the window, and it instantly broke. I fell down with it. I thought I would die, instead I fell on the shattered glass and nothing occurred. All of a sudden, I felt like my body was not mine to control anymore. I 'unconsciously' took the shattered piece of glass and stabbed my head with it. Blood flowed.
A maid saw me and rushed to call 'my mom'. Soon, they both came rushing to me and the man angrily followed behind, talked up to me and gave me a sound slap across the face. "WHAT IS THIS! YOU BASTARD!" He screamed kicking me. My so-called 'mom' on the other hand, that I thought would help me because I didn't know what was happening, pushed me exclaiming. Mr. angry turned to the woman yelling "Idiot! I told you it was a bad idea to bring this trash home". He turned over his shoulder to glance at me in disgust, "We should have ended it when we still could. He turned to leave but said to the maid first "Hey, disgrace! Take this thing off my property, NOW!". This was terrible and I honestly couldn't see. My hair had impaired my sight so I cried.
The trembling whose name was actually grace, pushed me out, and I knocked my head on the gate as she did. I rolled down the pavement in my blood and tears. I struggled to get up as the maid shut the gate. Banged on it crying. "Please let me in!", but no hero came to my rescue. With nothing left but hopelessness, I dragged my feet along the sidewalk, ignoring all the stares and side eyes. The police were called in and wallowing in my misery the police were called in.
"I'm sure her life's a total mess", a man at the front seat joked, and they all burst out laughing. 'Life' was what they called it. The headache, there it was again. "Hours into life and it's already hell", I said to myself.
At the station, I was questioned, handcuffed. I struggled to free my hands but it proved futile. "What's your name?", the interrogator already seated across the table asked. Silence followed for what seemed like forever, but I still kept my head low, silent. With my hair blinding my sight and all the life stuff and the headache, I slept off unknowingly. And THEN another mind took over and broke the silence. "I don't know", it replied.
The interrogator was confused. He stood up from his chair and walked over, stretching out his hand steadily. "Oh, you'll regret that", it spoke and without even being able to see, it knew that the interrogator wanted to lift my head up and meet his gaze. "Don't even touch me", it continued. The arrogant human didn't listen and did as he wished. As soon as he did he died. I don't even know how on planet earth it happened.
An officer who was walking past the interrogation room witnessed this bizarre scene and screamed. That was when he took his last breath. He fell to the ground...dead. Shivers ran down my spine but I was unable to do anything. I thought I fell asleep, how come my brain was still awake. I didn't want to see all this.
The officer's scream attracted others who ran to the interrogation room. They looked around however, I was out of sight. Whatever was controlling me, had broken the ceiling, jumping rooftops like a wild ape. Out of energy, it slept off and I could control myself again. I took over, jumped down the building and ran into the woods trying to think, for the aches disturbing my head had gone too far.
This thing inside me, taking over my will. What was it? What's this Unknown being?
