The Night Beyond the Palace Walls

Night slowly settled over the palace, wrapping it in a quiet, almost secretive stillness. Oil lamps flickered along the stone walls, casting long shadows that seemed to whisper stories of the past. Rudrani stood in the center of her chamber, arms folded, her mind racing.

The moment the door closed behind Rudra and Veer, silence lingered for exactly three seconds.

And then—

“AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!”

Neelambari jumped onto the bed, practically bouncing with excitement.

“Hum bahar jaa rahe hai!!! Mehal ke bahar!!!” Adhiraj spun around dramatically, unable to contain himself.

Rudrani shut her eyes for a second, inhaling deeply. “Bas… ho gaya tum dono ka natak?”

“Bilkul nahi.”

“Abhi toh shuruaat hai.”

She exhaled slowly and opened her eyes, now serious. “Listen carefully. This is not a picnic. “This is our chance—to observe, to understand, and to find the truth.”

“Matlab mission?” Adhiraj raised a brow.

“Exactly,” she replied. “Aur sabse zaroori… jisne asli Rani ko maara hai… woh abhi bhi yahi hai.”

This time, silence truly settled between them.

By evening, maids arrived with a set of clothes.

For the first time since their arrival, the outfits were simple. Light fabrics, minimal embroidery—practical, almost relieving.

Rudrani ran her fingers across the fabric and sighed. “Finally… saans lene layak kapde.”

Neela chuckled. “Tu toh waise bhi queen se zyada rebel lagti hai.”

Adhiraj looked down at himself, clearly offended. “Main kisaan lag raha hoon.”

“Tu waise bhi dimag se wahi hai,” Rudrani shot back without hesitation.

The night had deepened.

A soft knock echoed through the chamber.

Rudrani opened the door—

And paused.

Rana Rudra Pratap Singh stood before her… but not as a king.

No crown. No royal ornaments. Just simple attire, a dark shawl draped over his shoulder. And yet… he carried the same undeniable presence.

“Chalo mhari saath,” he said softly.

There was less command in his voice tonight… and something unexpectedly gentle.

Rudrani nodded.

Behind him stood Veer. And the moment Neela saw him—

“Veer jii…” she murmured.

Veer immediately looked away.

“Bhai sharma gaya,” Adhiraj whispered, grinning.

Stepping Outside

The massive palace gates opened slowly, almost silently.

And just like that—

They stepped into a different world.

The cool night air brushed against Rudrani’s face. The sky above was filled with countless stars—clear, untouched, breathtaking.

She paused, taking it all in.

“Yeh… sach mein hai?” she whispered.

Rudra looked at her, not in the sky.

“Mharo Mewar hai yeh,” he said with quiet pride.

There was something in his voice… something deeply rooted, something that made her chest tighten unexpectedly.

The Marketplace

Despite the late hour, the marketplace was alive.

Oil lamps glowed warmly. Vendors called out softly. Children ran through narrow paths, laughter echoing into the night.

Life existed here—raw and real.

“Bro… yeh toh pura movie set lag raha hai,” Adhiraj whispered.

“Chup,” Rudrani muttered, nudging him.

Neela stopped near a stall, eyes sparkling. “Hum kuch le sakte hai?”

Rudra glanced at her. “Mhane log paisa nahi leve, rani saa. Wo toh aapne bhagwan samjhe hai.”

Rudrani translated casually, “Matlab free mein sab milega.”

Adhiraj’s face lit up instantly. “Best century ever.”

Gradually, the group drifted apart.

Adhiraj got busy arguing with a vendor for no real reason.

Neela found herself lingering near Veer, stealing glances.

And Rudrani…

Walked beside Rudra.

The silence between them wasn’t awkward—it was calm.

Unexpectedly comforting.

“Aap alag ho,” Rudra said suddenly.

Rudrani tilted her head. “Achha alag ya problematic alag?”

He looked ahead, thoughtful. “Samajh na aave.”

She smiled faintly.

After a pause, she asked softly, “Aapko darr nahi lagta?”

“Darr?” he frowned.

“Mujh par bharosa karne ka… galat hone ka…”

Rudra stopped walking.

He turned to face her fully.

“Darr toh tab lage, jab khone layak kuch ho.”

“…Aur hai?” she asked quietly.

He held her gaze.

“Ab lagne lagyo hai.”

For a moment—

Everything stilled.

The Shadow

A subtle movement.

A shift in the air.

Rudrani noticed first.

“Rudra…”

But he already knew.

Veer appeared beside him instantly. “Peecha ho rayo hai mharo.”

Rudra’s entire demeanor changed in a second.

Cold. Alert. Dangerous.

“Sab mhare peeche raho,” he ordered.

The king had returned.

The Attack

Without warning—

Three masked men emerged from the shadows.

Steel flashed.

The world turned chaotic.

Veer moved like lightning, blocking the first strike.

Adhiraj grabbed a wooden stick in panic. “Main scientist hoon bhai, warrior nahi!”

Neela pulled Rudrani back.

But Rudrani’s eyes—

Were locked on Rudra.

One attacker was moving toward him—

From behind.

And without thinking—

She ran.

“RUDRA!!!”

She pushed him.

The sword sliced across her arm.

Blood and Silence

Time stopped.

Rudra turned.

His eyes—

Darkened completely.

No hesitation.

No mercy.

Within moments—

The attackers lay lifeless on the ground.

Aftermath

The world felt distant.

Rudrani swayed slightly, her arm bleeding.

Before she could fall—

Strong arms caught her.

“Pagal ho gyi ho ke?” Rudra’s voice trembled.

Anger. Fear. Something deeper.

“Aapne apni jaan daav pe laga di…”

She gave a faint smile. “Team work…”

He didn’t smile.

Instead, he pulled her closer.

As if letting go—

Was no longer an option.

That night wasn’t just about an attack.

Something else had begun.

A shift.

A connection.

A dangerous, unspoken bond.

And somewhere, hidden in the darkness—

Someone was watching.

Waiting.

Because this—

Was only the beginning.

The night did not end with the attack.

It only deepened—heavy, silent, and filled with something unspoken.

Rudra tightened his hold around Rudrani as he carried her through the deserted streets. The marketplace behind them had fallen into a frightened hush, doors closing one after another like secrets being locked away.

His grip on her was firm—too firm.

As if loosening it, even slightly, would mean losing her.

“Veer, raasta saaf karo,” his voice came low and sharp.

“Jee, bhai saa,” Veer moved ahead immediately, alert and ready.

Adhiraj followed, still shaken. “Rudra, she’s bleeding—we need to stop!”

“Chup rahiye,” Rudra said, not even sparing him a glance. “Humein gyaan dene ki avashyakta nahi hai.”

Rudrani tried to lighten the moment. “Itna serious mat ho… scratch hi hai—”

Rudra stopped walking.

Slowly… dangerously… he looked down at her.

“Humse jhooth mat kahiye, Rani saa.”

His voice wasn’t loud.

But it carried something far more intense.

Concern.

Fear.

And something he refused to name.

Rudra’s Thoughts

He had seen blood before.

Countless times.

War, betrayal, punishment—he had faced it all without hesitation.

But this—

This was different.

Her blood.

Her pain.

Because of him.

A strange unease gripped his chest, tightening with every step he took.

Yeh kya ho raha hai humein…?

Ek stree… jo hamari patni bhi nahi… phir bhi…

His hold tightened unconsciously.

Humne kabhi kisi ke liye aisa mehsoos nahi kiya… phir aaj kyun?

He didn’t have the answer.

And that unsettled him more than anything.

A Hidden Stop

Instead of returning to the palace, Rudra led them through quieter lanes until they reached a small vaidya’s house.

The door opened.

“Ra… Rana saa?”

“Prashn kam kijiye,” Rudra said firmly. “Inka turant ilaaj kijiye.”

He placed Rudrani down carefully—but even then, his hand lingered near her… as if ready to catch her again.

The Wound

The cloth was removed.

The wound revealed itself—deep, raw.

Adhiraj turned away instantly. “Damn…”

Neela’s expression tightened.

But Rudra…

Did not move.

Did not react.

Only his eyes darkened.

“Dard ho raha hai?” he asked quietly.

“Thoda sa…” Rudrani replied.

“Jhooth,” he said.

And this time—

There was no argument.

Rudra’s Inner Conflict

As the vaidya worked, Rudra stood there, watching every movement.

Every touch.

Every wince.

Something inside him twisted painfully.

Yeh hamari zimmedari thi…

Unki raksha karna… aur hum asafal rahe…

For years, he had carried the burden of a kingdom.

But tonight—

The weight felt personal.

Dangerously personal.

And that… he could not afford it.

Meanwhile… Neela & Veer

Outside, under the dim glow of a lantern—

Neelambari stood watching Veer.

He stood at a distance, composed… but clearly uncomfortable.

“Veer jii…” she sang softly, her voice playful.

Veer stiffened.

“Humein kuch karya dekhna hai,” he said, attempting to leave.

She stepped forward.

Blocking him effortlessly.

“Kaam baad mein… pehle mujhe dekhiye.”

And then she began humming, swaying slightly.

“Tainu shararat sikhawan…

Jadon nainaan ladawan…”

Her eyes sparkled with mischief.

Veer’s calm cracked instantly.

“Aap yeh kya kar rahi hain?” he asked, clearly flustered.

Neela leaned closer.

“Flirt.”

Veer froze.

“Yeh… uchit nahi hai,” he muttered, looking anywhere but at her.

Neela smiled wider. “Aapko aadat ho jayegi.”

She winked.

Veer turned away immediately.

“Hey Mahadev…” he whispered, almost helpless.

Back Inside

The bandaging was complete.

Rudrani slowly sat up.

Rudra was still there.

Watching.

Silent.

Too silent.

“Ab theek hoon,” she said gently.

“Hum tab maanein jab aap bina ladkhadaye chal sakein,” he replied.

“Control freak,” she muttered.

“Yeh kaun si bhasha hai?” he frowned.

“Future ki.”

For a fleeting moment—

His lips almost curved.

The Journey Continues

They stepped out again.

Rudra didn’t return to the palace.

Instead—

He chose to continue.

“Raat abhi samaapt nahi hui,” he said. “Aur humein yeh jaan-na hoga ki hamare viruddh chaal chalne wala kaun hai.”

The streets were quieter now.

Only footsteps echoed.

Rudrani walked beside him.

Despite the injury… she didn’t slow down.

“Aap ziddi hain,” Rudra said.

“Survival instinct,” she replied.

A pause.

Then—

“Waise… agar main wapas gayi… toh meri shaadi hai.”

Rudra stopped.

The world around him seemed to still.

“Shaadi?” his voice dropped.

“Haan… arranged marriage hai.”

His chest tightened.

“Aap sweekar karti hain?”

“…Haan.”

Something inside him… cracked.

“Naam?” he asked.

“Yashveer.”

Rudra’s Inner Turmoil

The name echoed in his mind.

Unfamiliar.

Yet instantly hated.

Toh yeh stree… kisi aur ki hone wali hai…

His jaw clenched.

Aur hum…?

Nothing.

He was nothing to her.

Just a king she was helping.

A phase.

A moment in time.

“Ati bhagyashali vyakti hai,” he said.

But inside—

Bhagyashali?

Ya humse adhik durbhagyashali… jo ise kabhi samajh bhi nahi payega…

A strange bitterness rose within him.

Unwanted.

Uncontrolled.

For the first time—

Rudra Pratap Singh felt something dangerously close to jealousy.

Ahead, Neela’s laughter echoed as she continued teasing Veer.

Adhiraj walked quietly behind.

And between Rudra and Rudrani—

Silence walked with them.

Heavy.

Unspoken.

Because now—

It wasn’t just about survival.

Or returning home.

Now—

He knew.

She would leave.

And for the first time in years—

Rudra feared losing someone…

Who was never his to begin with.
