Rose Among Thorns

Rose Among Thorns

Description

The Gilded Cage

A wedding is supposed to be a celebration of love—a promise of forever. But for Rose Sharma, her sister's wedding day shattered that illusion, unveiling the darkness beneath polished smiles and old money's perfect calm.

The morning was too beautiful. Sunlight spilled over the sprawling Sharma estate, weaving gold through orchids and silk. The air was thick with jasmine and laughter—five hundred guests breathing in a dream that would soon collapse.

Rose, twenty and bright-eyed, moved through the chaos with quiet purpose. Her hands adjusted flowers already flawless. Her gaze kept returning to one man in the crowd—Jungkook "JK" Jeon, her secret, her anchor. Their plan was simple: once Shanaya's grand wedding to V was over, they would tell their parents about their own love.

Shanaya was grace incarnate—polished, poised, the family's perfect daughter. And V—Kim Taehyung Oberoi—was everything their parents admired: heir to power, old-money elegance, a face the camera adored and a voice that could silence a room. His calm was legendary. His eyes missed nothing.

Rose had always felt those eyes on her. Not often, but enough to leave her unsettled. Still, she thought it was just his way—until that day.

Three hours before the vows, Shanaya vanished.

At first came denial. "She's nervous," their mother said, her brightness brittle. But the hours bled away, and Shanaya's room stayed untouched. The lehenga—a masterpiece of gold and ivory—hung in silence, accusing the air around it.

Then Rose found the note—folded, trembling, hidden beneath a jewelry box.

He's not who he says he is. There are accounts. Transactions. A cruelty behind the calm. I can't do this. Forgive me. – S

The words blurred. V? No. Impossible. Her first thought was of JK. She had to find him—warn him that something terrible was unfolding.

She turned—and collided with a wall of heat and tailored black.

V.

He stood too close. The sharp scent of cedar and smoke lingered on his suit. His face was still, sculpted calm stretched tight over quiet rage.

"Where is she, Rose?" The words were soft, dangerous.

"I—I don't know," she stammered.

His gaze lingered—steady, cutting. Then it dropped to the letter trembling in her hand. His jaw flexed once. The calm broke, just slightly.

And then his eyes shifted past her shoulder. His expression changed. Cold recognition flickered.

Rose turned. JK was moving toward them, eyes wide with concern.

"You knew," V murmured, voice silk over steel. His fingers closed around her arm—not harshly, but firmly enough that she felt his control in the press of his hand. "You helped her. And now you run to him?"

"V, please—"

His voice dropped lower, almost intimate. "If I can't marry the Sharma I chose," he said, every word precise, "then I'll marry the one who stays."

The air split apart.

JK reached them, anger flaring. Security moved in, shadows in motion. In the chaos, Rose tore herself free and grabbed JK's hand. "Run!"

They barely made it ten steps.

"Stop."

The single word froze them both.

V stood at the edge of the crowd, shoulders relaxed, a pistol gleaming in his hand—not aimed at them, but at Rose's parents, frozen in horror.

"One more step," he said, voice calm again, "and your father takes his last breath."

Silence fell. The world tilted. Rose's knees almost gave out.

"Your choice, Rose," V said softly. "Him"—a glance at JK, restrained now by two men—"or them?"

There was no choice. Only consequence.

Tears blurred her vision. She looked at JK—his face pale, helpless—and then at her parents. Her heart broke with the weight of the decision.

"I'm sorry," she whispered, the words splintering in the air.

When she turned back, V didn't smile. He simply extended a hand. And she went to him, every step a surrender. His hand brushed her cheek, a ghost of a touch, not tenderness but possession.

That evening, beneath the canopy of flowers meant for Shanaya, Rose Sharma—was wed to V.

The priest's words were a distant hum. V's touch at her wrist never loosened, his composure restored, his power absolute. She didn't say yes. But silence, under a gun and her father's life, was answer enough.

By morning, the kim mansion's gates were sealed. Rumors spread like wildfire—of scandal, were sure be go around.

Inside those golden walls, Rose learned what it meant to belong to someone she could never escape.

And somewhere beyond them, Shanaya's truth waited in the dark.

The cage was gilded.

And it was closing.
