The next morning, everyone was having breakfast together.
Rihan finished first. He picked up his coat and said,
“Mom, I’m leaving for the company. I’m already late today.”
Rihan Roy, CEO of Roy Enterprises
Anamika looked at him.
“Come home early today,” she said.
Rihan frowned slightly.
“Why? Is there something important?”
Anamika was about to answer when the doorbell rang.
Two police officers stood at the door.
“We need to speak with Somya Kapoor regarding the accident,” one of them said.
Rihan stepped aside politely.
“Please come in.”
The officers went inside and began questioning Somya.
She told them everything she remembered—the truck, the crash, the man talking on the phone. But she did not mention the dream… or the floating head. She herself didn’t know whether it was real or just her imagination.
After listening carefully, the officer said,
“It seems this was not just a normal car accident. It looks like a planned conspiracy. Someone wanted to destroy the Chaudhary family.”
Somya felt cold.
“Thank you for cooperating,” the officer continued. “If we find any new information, we will inform you.”
After the police left, Somya stood silently.
Her mind replayed the image of the floating head.
Her breathing suddenly became fast. Her chest tightened. Fear wrapped around her like a cage.
She couldn’t breathe.
Before she could fall, Rihan caught her.
“Somya!” Anamika said worriedly. “What happened, beta? Are you okay?”
Rihan lifted Somya in his arms and carried her to her room. She was shaking badly.
Soon, a doctor arrived and examined her.
“She had a panic attack,” the doctor explained. “She needs complete rest. Try not to talk about the accident for now.”
He gave her an injection and prescribed some medicines.
“She’ll fall into deep sleep now,” the doctor added.
Somya slowly drifted into unconsciousness.
Later, Anamika turned to Rihan.
“Rihan, I have to attend a friend’s party this evening. It’s very important,” she said. “Please stay with Somya.”
Rihan nodded.
“Okay, Mom.”
He picked up his keys and left for the company.
And Somya slept peacefully—for now.
After Rihan left, the house felt unusually quiet.
Anamika stood near Somya’s room for a long moment, listening to the steady sound of her breathing. Only then did she move away.
Inside the room, Somya slept deeply. The medicine had calmed her body, but her mind was still restless.
Fragments of the accident returned in her dreams.
The sound of breaking glass.
The cold voice on the phone.
And then—darkness.
The floating head appeared again, watching her silently.
You survived, the voice echoed.
But survival comes with a price.
Somya’s fingers twitched slightly.
Outside the room, Anamika sat down slowly, worry written across her face.
“This girl has already faced too much,” she whispered to herself. “How much more will fate test her?”
At the office, Rihan tried to focus on work, but his mind kept drifting back to the morning.
Her pale face.
Her shaking hands.
The way she had collapsed.
He tightened his jaw.
This is not my problem, he told himself. I’m just doing my duty.
Yet, despite telling himself that, he checked the time again.
And again.
As evening approached, an uneasy feeling settled in his chest—one he didn’t understand and didn’t want to name.
