The Meteorite
The shadows tentacles are stretching their claws towards me. I tried to run away yet they are always at my back. I tried to hide in every corner but they could always find me.
This is a nightmare!! I sacrifice everything! I already gave you everything that I have but why are you still after me? I regret it deeply, I shouldn't have let a moment of curiosity eat me up. Now you are trying to eat me up.
You're an alien! You don't have compassion! I should have listened to my mom. Now my mother is resting inside your stomach.
The beautiful luster of a meteorite that led you to me turned into the world's catastrophic disaster.
“There's going to be a meteor shower tonight."
I heard the kids in our village shout. They're so excited as it will be their first time seeing it, and I never thought it would be their last.
Night comes and the meteors start to fall like rainfall. Like a blazing fire blessing us with its beauty and grace. The kids were so amazed that they left their mouths gaping. I feel like laughing. When something caught my attention. I left the bustling noise and approached the dark forest. I notice a rock that shapes like an egg.
As I approached the rock, its surface shimmered with an otherworldly glow, pulsing like a heartbeat. The excitement that filled the air transformed into a chilling sense of dread as I reached out to touch it. The moment my fingers brushed the cool surface, the world around me shifted. The ground trembled, and a low hum resonated from within the egg-like rock.
Before I could react, the rock cracked open, revealing a mass of writhing shadows. They poured out like ink spilling into water, swirling and twisting into a grotesque form—an alien being with tentacles extending into the night, each one tipped with glimmering claws.
"Curiosity comes at a price," it whispered, its voice echoing inside my mind, a dark symphony of voices layered beneath one another. Panic surged through me, but the shadows were already closing in, their grip tightening like a vice.
"You unleashed me," it continued, as I stumbled backward, desperately trying to escape the terror that loomed before me. "And now, you shall pay."
Memories flashed through my mind—my mother’s warnings, the stories of our ancestors who had warned against disturbing the unknown. But the excitement of discovery had clouded my judgment, and now, it felt like the universe itself was punishing me for my hubris.
In my mind, I saw the village, the children gazing at the meteors, their laughter now a haunting echo. The meteor shower had been a signal, a cosmic invitation to something far more sinister than I could have imagined. The beautiful display of the universe had been a cover for this dark awakening.
I turned and ran, my heart pounding in my chest, the shadows clawing at my back. They were relentless, seeking to pull me into their dark embrace. I could feel their cold tendrils brushing against my skin, chilling me to the bone.
But just as despair threatened to consume me, a flicker of determination ignited within. I remembered the stories—legends of those who had faced similar darkness and triumphed. I had to fight back.
I stumbled into the heart of the forest, the moonlight guiding me through the trees. My breath came in ragged gasps as I searched for something, anything, that could help me. The shadows coiled tighter, whispering promises of despair, but I refused to succumb.
Then, I spotted it—a glimmering shard of meteorite embedded in the ground. It radiated a warmth that pushed back against the cold shadows. I lunged for it, clutching the shard tightly in my hand. It felt alive, pulsing with energy, as if it recognized my desperation.
With a primal scream, I turned to face the advancing shadows. "You will not take me!" I shouted, brandishing the shard like a weapon. As the shadows lunged, I thrust the meteorite forward. The moment it made contact, a blinding light erupted, illuminating the forest and dispelling the darkness.
The alien creature shrieked, its form flickering and twisting as the light engulfed it. Tendrils flailed, retreating into the shadows, and I felt the weight of its presence lifting, the grip of its claws releasing me.
As the light faded, the forest fell silent. The shadows vanished, leaving only the faint echoes of my fears behind. I stood there, breathless, clutching the shard tightly. I had faced the darkness and survived, but at what cost? The memories of the children and my mother haunted me.
I turned back toward the village, a mix of relief and dread coursing through me. The night was forever changed, and as the last remnants of the meteor shower faded into the dawn, I knew I could never forget what lay hidden in the shadows.
The universe was vast and full of wonders, but it was also a place of unimaginable terror. And I had only just begun to uncover its secrets.
