Chapter Five — When Feelings Start to Show

The next few days passed like a soft blur, the kind where every moment felt lighter simply because Sun-jae was part of it. Sol found herself smiling at her phone more often, rereading his messages, even the simple ones like *Did you eat?* or *What are you drawing today?* They were small words, but they carried something warm beneath them.

They started meeting without planning it much. Sometimes at a café near the studio, sometimes by the river, sometimes just walking side by side through streets filled with noise and color. It didn’t feel like dates, but it didn’t feel like nothing either. It was that strange in-between space where feelings quietly grow.

One afternoon, Sol went to visit Sun-jae at his studio. He had told her he was working on a new song and wanted her to hear it. She found him sitting on the floor, surrounded by scattered papers and empty coffee cups, his guitar resting against his knee.

“You look tired,” she said softly.

“I am,” he admitted. “But in a good way.”

She sat beside him, close enough that she could feel his warmth. He played a few chords, then stopped.

“I don’t know if it’s good yet,” he said. “But it feels honest.”

“That’s better than perfect,” Sol replied.

He smiled and began to sing. The song was gentle, filled with longing and hope. It spoke of someone who walked into your life quietly and changed it without even trying. Sol listened, her chest tightening as she realized how much of herself she heard in those words.

When he finished, the room fell silent.

“That was beautiful,” she said.

Sun-jae looked at her, something vulnerable in his eyes. “It’s about you.”

Her breath caught. “About… me?”

“Not just you,” he corrected softly. “About what it feels like when you meet someone who makes the world feel less heavy.”

Sol didn’t know what to say. No one had ever put her into a song before. It felt too precious, too fragile.

“I don’t want to scare you,” he added quickly. “I just… I wanted you to know.”

She reached out without thinking and gently touched his arm. “I’m not scared.”

He looked at her hand, then back at her face. The moment was quiet, but full — like something important was happening in the space between them.

Later, they went for a walk. The city lights were starting to glow, and the air was filled with the soft sounds of evening. They didn’t talk much. They didn’t need to.

At one point, Sol stumbled slightly on the uneven pavement. Sun-jae caught her hand instinctively to steady her.

This time, neither of them let go.

They kept walking, hands loosely linked, as if it was the most natural thing in the world. Sol felt her heart race, but she didn’t pull away. His hand was warm, grounding, real.

“Is this okay?” he asked quietly.

“Yes,” she whispered.

Their fingers tightened slightly, not in possession, but in reassurance.

When they reached her street, they stopped. The moment felt heavier now, filled with everything they hadn’t said yet.

“Sol,” Sun-jae began, “I don’t know where this is going… but I know I don’t want it to end.”

She looked at him, eyes soft. “Me neither.”

He smiled — not his bright stage smile, but a small, genuine one meant just for her.

As she walked away, she glanced back once. He was still standing there, watching her, as if afraid she might disappear.

And for the first time, Sol knew this wasn’t just a beautiful moment.

It was the beginning of something that mattered. 🤍
