The life of a bean

"Where can one find the beginning of life? How does it start?" There are exactly the questions going on in my mind while looking at this one small bean sprout.

I am Ruby. The daughter of the biggest farming family in town. My father, Mellord owns a large farmland, covering almost one-fifth of our town, and my mother, Aki, is the best plant doctor in town. I on the other hand, am simply a curious little child who often helps her parents out in the fields.

A few decades ago, before I was born, a decent chunk of our land was destroyed and burnt down due to war. From that day on, the land, still out property, has remained a barren wasteland where no life remains. Only ash covers the land. It's always been in my life, and I always go there to play.

One day, out of nowhere, a one leafed bean sprout rested on top of the ash. I was in disbelief. I immediately got my little watering can and watered the plant. I couldn't talk to flora, but I could tell it was happy.

Seasons passed as I wattered the little one day by day. It survived storms, droughts, snow, wild animals and a lot more. By the end of the year, it had grown one more leaf. Soon, the harvest festival came. It was a bright morning. I had went down to say hello to the bean sprout, when I noticed it had only one leaf instead of two.

I thought it was going to die, so I asked my mother. She claimed my suspicious true. I was heartbroken. The same day, Zero, one of my closest friends came to pick me up for the festival. Once I got home, I went to check up of the plant. It for its second leaf back. I couldn't help but smile.

"I may not understand you. How you are, how you do the impossible, but I'm certain of one thing. You won't give up that easily, will you?"
