Varenya's Destiny

Varenya's Destiny

ch-1

A man arrives with his son. The son's eyes fall on a cute little girl sitting there, held by a couple.

The man stands and says, “How are you? Meeting after such a long time.”

The other man replies, “I’m good. Come, meet him—this is my son,” he says, pointing toward the boy.

But the boy’s attention was somewhere else—on that cute little girl peacefully sleeping in her mother’s lap.

Then he hears a voice: “Son, say hello to Uncle.”

He comes back to his senses and says, “Hello, Uncle… hello, Aunty.”

Everyone sits down. The waiter comes to take the order. The adults start talking among themselves, but the boy’s attention stays fixed on that little girl.

Her eyes were closed, yet her face gave him an odd sense of peace. Looking at her, it felt like tears of happiness might come to his eyes. He couldn’t understand this feeling at all.

Out of curiosity, he asks, “Aunty, is this baby yours? What’s her name?”

Everyone stops talking. The couple replies, “Actually, we haven’t decided a name yet. If you know any name, tell us.”

Without thinking, the boy says, “Varenya.”

The boy’s father looks at him, then at the cute baby girl, and smiles. He places a hand on his son’s head and says, “Very good, beta. Nice.”

The couple also smiles and says, “Nice name, beta.” Then they kiss their daughter’s forehead and say, “So from today, your name is Varenya.”

The boy smiles, and the cute baby girl also smiles in her sleep, as if she heard everything.

Then the man’s phone rings. He talks, ends the call, and says goodbye to everyone. “Son, let’s go…”

The soft hum of the car filled the silence as the city slowly disappeared behind them. The boy sat quietly in the back seat, his small hands resting on his lap, his eyes unfocused—lost somewhere far beyond the moving roads.

He didn’t understand it.

He had seen many babies before. Smiled at some. Ignored others.

But this time was different.

That tiny face—so peaceful, so calm—kept returning to his mind again and again. Every time he tried to push it away, it came back stronger, clearer. Her closed eyes, the faint smile on her lips… it felt as if she had left something behind inside his heart.

Something warm.

Something heavy.

His head began to ache.

He shifted uncomfortably, pressing his fingers against his temple. He was only five—far too young to understand fate, connection, or destiny. All he knew was that his chest felt tight, and his thoughts felt loud.

Too loud.

The gentle voice of his mother drifted toward him.

“Baby… are you okay?”

He didn’t answer.

The ache grew heavier, pulling his eyelids down. Within moments, sleep claimed him—deep and sudden, like his mind needed rest from feelings it couldn’t name.

“Baby, wake up. We’re at the airport.”

He stirred as his father lifted him into his arms. The bright lights, the distant announcements, the rush of people—all blurred together. Half-asleep, he rested his head against his father’s shoulder, his breathing slow and calm again.

Soon, the three of them were seated on the flight.

As the plane took off, the boy slept peacefully, unaware that miles away, a baby girl with the same name he had spoken so effortlessly lay sleeping too—her destiny quietly intertwined with his.

Hours later, the plane landed.

Their hometown welcomed them with familiar skies and familiar air, yet something had changed. Something invisible had shifted its place in the universe.

A name had been given.

A connection had been formed.

And though neither of them knew it yet, that single moment—

that single name—

would one day rewrite both their lives.
