Rain continued to fall through the broken ceiling of the unfinished building, each drop echoing faintly against the cold concrete floor.
The air felt heavy.
Not just because of the storm.
Because of them.
Akira stood firm, his blade steady, eyes locked on the man in front of him. The Yami Kenshi hadn’t moved much since the last clash. His scythe rested lightly in his hand, as if the weapon itself carried no weight.
“State your purpose,” Akira said calmly.
“Why bring him here?”
The man didn’t answer immediately. His gaze drifted for a moment… then settled back.
“Observation.”
Akira’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“I don’t recognize you.”
A faint smile appeared on the man’s face.
“Names are meaningless to humans…”
He paused.
“…but if you must know—”
“…Zetsuen… Kuroto…”
The voice didn’t come from Akira.
Both of them turned.
Satoshi stood at the entrance.
Rain fell behind him, dim light outlining his figure. His expression wasn’t panicked.
It was… focused.
For a moment, Akira didn’t react.
Then, without fully turning—
“Late as always.”
Satoshi exhaled lightly, stepping inside.
“Got lost on the way.”
The normalcy of their exchange felt out of place.
Ren’s voice cut through it instantly.
“Satoshi?! What are you doing here?!”
His voice trembled. Confused. Frustrated. Scared.
Zetsuen’s attention shifted fully now.
His eyes locked onto Satoshi.
And for the first time—
There was clear interest.
“You know him?” Akira asked quietly.
Satoshi didn’t hesitate.
“Yes.”
That single word carried weight.
Zetsuen tilted his head slightly.
“That expression…” he said, observing carefully.
“…you remember.”
Satoshi’s gaze didn’t move.
“They’ve returned.”
Ren looked between them, completely lost.
“Can someone explain what the hell is going on?!”
No one answered him.
Zetsuen took a slow step forward.
Akira moved instantly.
In a fraction of a second, he was between Satoshi and Zetsuen.
“Don’t.”
His voice wasn’t loud.
But it didn’t need to be.
Zetsuen stopped.
Not forced.
Just… acknowledging.
“So this is the one the fracture reacted to…” he murmured.
The air shifted again.
Heavier.
Denser.
Satoshi felt it.
Akira’s in’en.
Zetsuen’s in’en.
Both pressing against each other.
Controlled.
Sharp.
And then—
Something inside Satoshi responded.
Not willingly.
Not consciously.
Just… reacting.
The air around him tightened slightly.
Almost unnoticeable.
But not to them.
Akira felt it instantly.
His eyes flicked back.
“…What is this…?”
Zetsuen’s gaze sharpened.
There it is.
So the reports were true.
“I was told one of you would awaken,” Zetsuen said slowly.
“I didn’t expect it to be this soon.”
Akira didn’t lower his sword.
“You talk too much.”
Zetsuen ignored him.
“My objective was simple,” he continued, eyes still on Satoshi.
“To isolate you.”
A brief pause.
“…but it seems I was interrupted.”
His gaze shifted slightly toward Akira.
Akira didn’t react.
But his stance changed.
Subtly.
Satoshi stepped forward just a little.
“Let Ren go.”
Zetsuen looked at him.
“And why should I?”
Satoshi didn’t hesitate.
“Because this wasn’t your objective.”
Silence.
For a moment, even the rain felt distant.
Akira glanced at Satoshi.
He’s reading him.
Zetsuen smiled faintly.
“You’re not wrong.”
Ren blinked.
“Wait… what?”
Zetsuen lowered his scythe slightly.
“Fear creates openings,” he said calmly.
“But this…”
His eyes moved between Akira and Satoshi.
“…is inefficient.”
Akira didn’t relax.
“You’re leaving?”
Zetsuen looked at him.
“No.”
A pause.
“Not yet.”
The air tightened again.
Pressure building.
Ren instinctively stepped back.
Satoshi didn’t move.
Akira adjusted his grip slightly.
Then—
Just as suddenly—
The pressure vanished.
Zetsuen stepped back.
His form blurred slightly, like fading into the darkness itself.
“This is enough for today.”
His gaze locked onto Satoshi one last time.
“Next time…”
A faint pause.
“…come alone.”
And then—
He disappeared.
No sound.
No trace.
Just absence.
Only the rain remained.
For a few seconds—
No one spoke.
Ren slowly stood up, still shaken.
“…I’m alive?”
Akira lowered his sword.
But his attention had shifted.
Not to where Zetsuen was.
But to Satoshi.
“…Since when?”
Satoshi looked down for a moment.
“I don’t know.”
Not entirely a lie.
Ren walked toward them, still trying to process everything.
“Can someone PLEASE explain what just happened?!”
Akira didn’t respond.
His eyes stayed on Satoshi.
Careful.
Measuring.
“You recognized him.”
Satoshi nodded slightly.
“…Yeah.”
Silence fell again.
Three of them.
Same place.
Same moment.
But something had changed.
Something irreversible.
And none of them could ignore it anymore.
