Chapter 2 — Seven Lives, One Rule

Power had a rhythm.

It woke early, moved efficiently, and never asked permission.

The mansion was already alive before sunrise.

Captain stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, suit perfectly pressed, watching the city stretch awake beneath him. His presence alone silenced rooms. Behind him, Black adjusted Captain’s cufflinks with practiced ease, fingers steady, touch familiar.

“You have three meetings today,” Black said calmly. “Two CEOs. One syndicate.”

Captain nodded. “Cancel lunch.”

Black didn’t argue. He never did.

Across the room, Boo Young sat on the arm of the couch, taping his knuckles. Duke stood in front of him, frowning as he wrapped the bandages tighter.

“You’re bleeding again,” Duke said softly.

“It’s nothing,” Boo Young grinned. “You worry too much.”

Duke’s eyes lifted, sharp beneath his gentle face. “I worry exactly enough.”

Boo Young laughed—and leaned forward, pressing a quick kiss to Duke’s forehead before standing. “I’ll be back by dinner.”

“Alive,” Duke added flatly.

Boo Young smirked. “Obviously.”

In the underground garage, Sukhi checked inventory on his tablet while Quing leaned against a car, gaming console in hand.

“You’re smiling,” Sukhi said without looking up. “That means you hacked something illegal again.”

Quing shrugged. “Only morally illegal.”

New emerged from the elevator, coat already on, medical bag slung over his shoulder. “If either of you get shot tonight, don’t bleed on my clean floors.”

Sukhi laughed. “Doctor’s orders?”

“No,” New replied calmly. “My patience.”

They moved like a unit when it came to business.

Meetings were short. Deals were sharp. Threats were quiet but effective. Captain spoke only when necessary. When he did, rooms listened. Contracts were signed. Territories secured. Enemies reconsidered their life choices.

By evening, blood had been spilled somewhere far away—but none of it touched home.

Home was different.

Back at the mansion, Duke cooked while Sukhi hovered nearby, pretending not to steal tastes. Black filed reports at the dining table as Quing leaned over his shoulder, pointing out security flaws just to annoy him.

Captain removed his jacket, finally allowing himself to sit. Boo Young dropped beside him, bruised but alive.

New checked everyone—silently, carefully—making sure nothing vital was broken.

Dinner was loud.

Arguments about movies. Complaints about Quing’s gaming habits. Boo Young teasing Duke until Duke snapped back. Sukhi arguing with Captain over club expansion.

Captain watched them all.

This—this chaos, this loyalty, this bond—was his empire.

Seven men. One rule.

Protect what’s ours.

Later that night, the mansion lights dimmed.

Captain stood alone again at the window, city glowing beneath him. Black joined him, standing close—but never in front.

“Everything’s stable,” Black said.

Captain nodded. “For now.”

Neither of them noticed the message waiting on Captain’s phone.

A contract not yet opened.

A name not yet spoken.

Elsewhere in the city, someone slept peacefully.

And the seven men—unaware—continued living their normal lives,

not knowing the balance of their world was about to tilt forever.
