Part 1 | Fate’s First Trick
(Y/N POV)
Sometimes fate doesn’t announce itself.
It doesn’t warn you.
It just walks in quietly… and changes everything.
This story begins with one such moment.
I stood outside the restaurant for a full minute before entering.
Just one meeting, I told myself.
Smile, talk, leave.
Blind dates were not my thing.
Especially when they were forced by my overprotective, control-freak brother.
As soon as I stepped inside, my eyes scanned the place casually.
And then… they stopped.
Him.
Tall,Calm, Sitting alone by the window.
Black coat. Straight posture. A face that looked serious — almost intimidating.
My heart skipped.
Brother said he would be tall and handsome…
That has to be him.
For a second, doubt crept in.
What if I’m wrong? What if this gets awkward?
But backing down was never my style.
I took a deep breath and walked toward him, pretending my heart wasn’t racing.
The moment he noticed me, he stood up.
That alone caught me off guard.
He pulled the chair out for me, silently asking me to sit.
Okay… Handsome AND respectful? Dangerous combination.I sat down, trying to act normal.
Before he could even open his mouth, mine betrayed me. “So… um… what do you do?”
I paused, then added quickly, “Or hobbies?Anything.”Why am I like this? “Oh—and my name is Y/N. Nice to meet you,” I said, smiling.“…You’re very handsome.”
I mentally slapped myself. He chuckled softly.
Not loud. Not dramatic.Just… warm.
“Thank you,” he said. “But weren’t you scared coming here alone?”I blinked.
“If you ever feel unsafe,” he continued calmly“take my number. Call me.”
Wait…
Did my brother tell him about my fights?
Suspicious. Very suspicious.
A Little About Me
I lost my parents when I was young.
Since then, my elder brother Kim Joon became my guardian.Korea’s top surgeon.Scary. Strict. Overprotective.
I hate depending on him, so I work part-time while studying in college.I live with my best friend Niva — my safe place. What I don’t tell my brother is… I don’t need protection.I can fight my own battles.
Back at the table, he looked at me thoughtfully.
“So,” he said, “what about kids?”My brain stopped working.Kids?! Already?! Panic exploded inside my head.Wait— is the wedding already fixed?!
I blurted out without thinking.“I want three kids! I love kids! They’re adorable!”I kept talking, hands moving, heart racing. He stared at me.Confused. Shocked.“Three kids…?” he repeated slowly.
“What are you talking about?”I laughed nervously. “Why are you scared? I’ll manage everything. You just have to love me.”Silence.Then suddenly, he stood up.“Love?” he asked sharply.“I don’t
understand what you’re saying.”My smile faded.
“If you don’t like me, tell my brother to cancel the wedding,” I snapped.“Don’t trap me. I like you.”
“Marriage?!”His voice was loud enough to turn heads. The restaurant went quiet. My stomach dropped. That’s when I noticed her.Another girl. Sitting a few tables away. She stood up slowly.
“I’m Min yumin,” she said awkwardly. And beside
her…Kim Taehyung.Oh.Oh no.
“I— I’m really sorry,” I whispered, my voice barely audible.
“I misunderstood.”
Heat rushed to my face as every pair of eyes in the restaurant turned toward me.
My chest tightened, breathing suddenly felt difficult.
I couldn’t bring myself to look at him again.
Without waiting, without explaining, I grabbed my bag and hurried toward the exit —
heart pounding, thoughts scattered,
leaving behind confusion… and a man I wasn’t ready to face.
At Home
I threw myself onto the bed like my life was officially over.
“My brother forced me for months,” I groaned,
“and when I finally go… THIS happens!”
Niva burst out laughing.
“Your brother is scary anyway,” she said.
“Just looking at his face scares me.”
“Niva!” I yelled.
She wiped her tears. “Okay, okay. So… what did you mess up this time?”
I told her everything.
She laughed even harder.
“LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT?!”
“Stop laughing!” I hid my face.
“I didn’t even ask his name. I’m doomed.”
She smiled. “Relax. You promised to help Goju grandmother today.”
I suddenly sat up straight.
“Oh no.”
Then I grabbed my bag and said firmly,
“If my brother comes, tell him I went for my part-time job.
I don’t want another lecture today.”
Niva nodded, still smiling.
“Got it.”
Noodle Stall — Chaos
(Y/N POV)
Goju grandmother’s stall was unusually busy when I reached. The smell of hot noodles, the clinking of bowls — everything felt normal.
Too normal. Then I heard laughter. Not happy laughter. Mocking Six boys walked in, loud and careless, taking up space like they owned it.
One of them pushed the bowl away.
“Seriously? Is this even edible?”
Another smirked. “Maybe it tastes bad because your hands are shaking, old lady.”
I froze.Grandmother forced a smile. “Eat properly or leave. Don’t disrespect food.”That’s when one of them stood up.“Or what?” he scoffed. “You’ll cry?” When she tried to take the bowl back, he shoved her.She stumbled.Something inside me snapped.I didn’t plan it. I didn’t think.
“Touch her again,” I said, my voice shaking with rage,“and I swear you’ll regret it.”They laughed.
Big mistake.I grabbed the boy’s collar and pushed him back. The stall erupted in chaos — bowls crashing, people shouting.A fist hit my shoulder. Pain shot through me.I stumbled… but stayed on my feet.I wasn’t strong enough.
I knew that. But backing down was never an option.I hit back.
I yelled.I protected her.
Even when my head spun and my lip split, I stood my ground.Sirens cut through the noise.
Police.Suddenly, they changed.
“She attacked us!” one of them shouted.
“She’s crazy!”I stared at them, breathless, furious.
Grandmother stepped forward despite shaking hands.“No,” she said firmly.“They were bullying first.”No one listened.Handcuffs clicked.
And just like that…we were taken to the police station.
Footsteps echoed behind me.
Slow.Controlled.Heavy with authority.
The air in the room changed.Conversations died down.Even the officers straightened.
I didn’t know why, but my heart started racing.
I looked up.A tall figure stepped into view, uniform sharp, presence impossible to ignore.
Not loud. Not aggressive.Just… powerful.
My breath caught in my throat.
Something about him felt familiar —dangerously familiar. His eyes lifted. And the moment they met mine, the world around me blurred.
Shock washed over me first. Then confusion.
Then a strange, unexplainable pull. Why did my chest tighten like that? Why did my heartbeat lose its rhythm?
