CHAPTER 3 The Duke Who Fell First

Lan Wangji had fought on countless battlefields.

His omega was laughing.

“My omega does not receive guests alone,” he said calmly.

Wei Wuxian looked at Lan Wangji. “You jealous?”

“I am observant,” Lan Wangji replied.

Wei Wuxian laughed. “Sure you are.”

That evening, they walked together through the lantern-lit corridors.

Lan Wangji spoke quietly. “If you are uncomfortable with visitors, I will refuse them.”

Wei Wuxian blinked. “You really don’t have to guard me like a treasure chest.”

Lan Wangji stopped.

“You are more valuable than that.”

Wei Wuxian stared.

“…You’re very bad for my heart, Duke.”

Lan Wangji nodded. “I accept responsibility.”

That night, Wei Wuxian couldn’t sleep.

He turned to see Lan Wangji sitting at the table, reading.

“You don’t sleep?” Wei Wuxian asked.

“I watch,” Lan Wangji answered.

Wei Wuxian smiled softly. “You’re too good, you know.”

Lan Wangji met his eyes.

“I fell in love first,” he said quietly. “That is all.”

Wei Wuxian’s breath hitched.

Then he laughed. “Well… I don’t hate it.”
