Episode 5 – The Ring

Elena woke with Alessandro’s name on her lips.

For a moment she didn’t move, her body still wrapped in the memory of his mouth on hers, the way his hands had held her like she was something he couldn’t survive without.

Then reality returned.

She was in the Russo mansion.

In his world.

In his bed.

Her eyes widened.

His side was empty — but the sheets were still warm.

On the nightstand lay a small black velvet box.

Her breath caught.

She sat up slowly, her fingers trembling as she opened it.

Inside was a ring.

Not delicate.

Not simple.

A large oval diamond surrounded by smaller stones, set on a band of white gold — powerful, breathtaking, impossible to ignore.

It looked exactly like him.

Strong.

Ruthless.

Unapologetically beautiful.

“You’re supposed to let me put that on you.”

Elena turned.

Alessandro stood by the doorway, already dressed in a dark suit, his expression unreadable — but his eyes…

His eyes were pure heat.

“I woke up and you were gone,” she said softly.

“I had to make sure the world is safe for you.”

The words should have sounded arrogant.

Instead, they made her heart ache.

He walked toward her slowly, like a predator approaching something precious.

“Come here,” he said.

Her pulse quickened as she slipped out of the bed and moved to stand in front of him.

For a second, neither of them spoke.

Then he took the ring from the box.

The air changed.

This wasn’t just a jewel.

This was a vow.

“Elena De Luca,” he said quietly, his voice rougher than usual, “when you wear this, every man in Italy will know you belong to me.”

Her breath trembled. “And what if I want to belong to you?”

Something dark and emotional flashed across his face.

He took her hand.

Slid the ring onto her finger.

It fit perfectly.

Like it had always been hers.

“Then they’ll know you chose me,” he said.

Her heart melted.

Before she could speak, his phone vibrated. His expression hardened instantly as he read the message.

“What is it?” she asked.

“You’re coming with me today.”

“Where?”

“A meeting in Milan.”

Her eyes widened. “With… your people?”

“With the heads of the families.”

Her stomach flipped.

“I can’t—”

“You can,” he interrupted. “And you will.”

His thumb brushed over the ring.

“They need to see you. To understand what you are.”

“And what am I?”

His gaze turned possessive.

“My future.”

🖤

The restaurant was closed to the public.

Armed men stood at every entrance.

Inside, the most powerful figures in the Italian underworld sat around a long table.

Conversations stopped the moment Alessandro walked in.

With Elena beside him.

Every gaze turned toward her.

Curious.

Calculating.

Some of them disapproving.

Alessandro’s hand settled on her lower back — warm, steady, claiming.

“Stay close,” he murmured.

“I wasn’t planning to run.”

A flicker of approval crossed his face.

They reached the table.

“This is Elena,” Alessandro said simply.

Not my fiancée.

Not Elena De Luca.

Just Elena.

Like she needed no other identity.

An older man leaned back in his chair. “You bring her here? Into this life?”

“I bring her everywhere,” Alessandro replied calmly. “Because she’s mine.”

The room fell silent.

A younger man at the far end stared at her too long.

Alessandro noticed.

Of course he did.

His entire body shifted — subtle, but deadly.

The man looked away immediately.

Elena’s heart pounded.

This was real.

She was sitting at the table where wars were decided.

Where lives ended with a nod.

And Alessandro kept his hand over hers the entire time.

Like he was reminding everyone — and her — that she wasn’t alone.

🖤

It happened when they were leaving.

Fast.

Sharp.

Terrifying.

A gunshot echoed outside the restaurant.

Alessandro moved before she could even process the sound.

He pulled her against his chest, turning his body to shield hers as his men flooded the street.

“Stay behind me,” he ordered.

Her heart slammed violently.

“What’s happening?!”

His eyes scanned everything — calculating, lethal.

“Someone just made a very big mistake.”

Another shot rang out.

Glass shattered.

She gasped, clutching his jacket.

He pushed her into the car, climbing in after her and slamming the door.

“Drive.”

The vehicle sped away.

Only then did he look at her.

His hands moved over her face, her shoulders, her arms — checking for injuries with a desperation that stole her breath.

“Are you hurt?”

“I—I don’t think so.”

His forehead dropped to hers, his entire body shaking with restrained fury.

“They aimed at the door,” he said, his voice deadly quiet.

“They knew you were with me.”

Fear curled in her chest.

“I’m sorry—”

“Don’t,” he snapped.

His eyes burned into hers.

“This is not your fault.”

“But it’s because of me.”

“Yes.”

The word stunned her.

Then he cupped her face.

“And I will destroy every person responsible.”

The promise wasn’t dramatic.

It was a death sentence.

She saw it then — the terrifying truth of loving a man like Alessandro Russo.

For her…

He would burn the world.

And as he pulled her into his arms, holding her so tightly she could barely breathe, Elena realized something just as dangerous.

She felt safest there.
