Unexpectedly Yours: When Timing Turns... ❣️
Two weeks later...
It's been weeks already since I got rejected.
<...it's better if we end it here...>
Those words sting like lemon juice. I haven't been myself since then. My mind doesn't want to forget though I force it, despite the upcoming tests for the term. I sigh looking out of my desk window. Hoping for a miracle.
"...since the year 1945. Isn't that right, Miss Nelson?"
The teacher's voice snaps me back to reality.
" Huh?"
Everyone is looking at me.
" I asked a question, Miss Nelson. Why don't you give us the answer?"
Dumbfounded, I slowly stand up to answer but don't know what exactly he asked.
" Sir, could you repeat the question?"
I ask softly.
" No can do. You'll go to the library for detention. No daydreaming. Off you go"
I sigh and pick up my stuff and leave the classroom. Great now I'm missing lectures because of a jerk. I click my tongue and walk up a flowery path to the library. I see Mr. Nixon approaching me. He smiles at me when he notices me.
" Deborah, where are you off to?"
I look at him.
" I'm headed to the library, Sir"
" Whatever for?"
" Was sent to detention."
He sighed.
" What was the reason? Are you facing any difficulty with the environment?"
I look away from him. I can't tell him I want to leave. My mom's going to worry.
" My mind wondered off for a few seconds and I couldn't answer a question. That's all"
He places a hand over my shoulder.
" It's alright. Next time you should be more conscious, yeah?"
" Sure. Thank you, Sir"
He nods and walks off. I head for the library then take my seat at the window at the far end to the left. I greet the library teacher.
" What'd you do?"
She asks. I just shrug.
" Just got lost in my mind"
She laughs at me, then brings me a book to read.
" It happens to students in a new environment. Nothing to worry about. Just be careful next time."
I nod in acknowledgement. She walks away. I open the book and read through some pages of Economics. At least I'm focused on the topic I'm reading.
After long hours of detention, I walk out of the library, bidding goodbye to the teacher. I meet Lindsey and Gabby waiting for me.
" Oh, there she is. I'm so sorry that happened, Deb"
Lindsey says holding my hands in hers.
" It can happen to anyone"
Gabby says.
" It was my fault, Lindsey. Nothing to worry about"
I assure them.
" Sure, but it's the History lectures. Miss one class then you come off blank later"
My face falls
" Gabby, don't scare the girl!"
Lindsey holds my arm to protect me. Gabby laughs. I shake my head appreciating their efforts to comfort me.
" I'm fine, guys. Don't worry."
" Are you sure?"
" You know we're here for you, right?"
They hug me and I nod.
" I know. Thanks"
As we step back, I lift my eyes and see him staring at me. I freeze in place. They look at where I'm looking at.
" What's really going on between you two?"
Gabby asks
" It's obvious. She's into the heart throb."
I don't say a thing to their words. He just folds his arms around his chest leaning against a nearby wall. Then noise comes from up ahead. We stretch our necks to the noise. A group of girls surrounds someone. AI finally catch a glimpse of the person. My eyes widen. No freaking way! Eliot Sumner?! He's my one of my not-so-good-ex-boyfriend who dumped after the holidays.
He finally shakes them off. Gabby and Lindsey giggle to each other about his looks and all that. I snort from disgust,, but the surprise in my face is evident. He notices me and waves. My girls look at me. I don't move. I'm tooted to the spot I'm standing on. He strides over with a vibrant smile on his face. When he comes over to me, he pulls me into a warm hug. Caught off guard, I don't react at all. My eyes widen as I feel his warmth enveloping me.
" I've missed you so much, Deborah."
I laugh dryly. I'm so screwed. I need help here!
