He is here

Minho held Yujin’s gaze for a long second before stepping back.

“You’re overthinking,” he said lightly. “If they’re interested in you, it’s because you’re worth being interested in.”

Yujin didn’t look convinced.

He looked intrigued.

And that was worse.

Things escalated quietly after that.

Hyunwoo began inviting Yujin to dine at the palace under the excuse of “political education.” The invitations became more frequent. Then exclusive.

Jisoo stopped pretending his curiosity was academic. He adjusted Yujin’s mana personally, fingers lingering at his wrist while explaining things far too softly.

Seojin dismissed half the knights assigned to Yujin’s area, claiming security concerns. He started walking him back to his residence every night.

The obsession had fully taken root.

Exactly as Minho intended.

But obsession changes people.

Hyunwoo grew sharper. More territorial.

When a noblewoman laughed too brightly at something Yujin said, her family’s trade request was quietly denied the next day.

Jisoo’s magic became unpredictable whenever Yujin was stressed.

Seojin’s patience shortened to almost nothing if anyone criticized him.

And Yujin—

Yujin adapted.

He wasn’t naive. Not anymore.

He learned how to smile in a way that made Hyunwoo soften.

He learned how to ask Jisoo questions that kept the mage talking for hours.

He learned how to praise Seojin’s strength just enough to make the commander stand straighter.

He was clever.

Minho noticed it immediately.

Good, he thought. He’ll survive them.

But there was something else in Yujin now. A confidence. A quiet awareness of his own influence.

One evening, Minho passed by the training grounds and overheard raised voices.

“You don’t get to decide everything for him,” Jisoo snapped.

“I decide what keeps him safe,” Seojin replied coldly.

Hyunwoo’s voice cut through both of them. “You’re forgetting something.”

They turned.

Yujin stood behind them.

Calm.

Smiling faintly.

“I can decide for myself.”

Silence fell.

For a moment, Minho almost laughed.

This wasn’t the soft protagonist from the novel anymore.

This was someone who understood power.

And how to use it.

Later that night, Yujin found Minho again.

“You’re watching from afar,” Yujin said quietly. “Why?”

“Because I prefer peace,” Minho replied.

“You created this,” Yujin continued. “You pushed them toward me.”

Minho didn’t deny it this time.

“And?” he asked.

Yujin stepped closer, voice softer.

“They’re obsessed with me.”

“Yes.”

“But you’re not.”

Minho blinked.

Yujin’s eyes sharpened slightly.

“You look at me like I’m a chess piece.”

Minho smiled faintly. “Everyone is.”

For a second, something unreadable flickered across Yujin’s face.

Not anger.

Not hurt.

Challenge.

“Be careful, Jaeheon,” Yujin murmured. “If you treat people like pieces… one day the board might flip.”

Minho felt it then.

The shift.

The original story had male leads obsessed with the protagonist.

This version?

The protagonist was learning how to control the obsession.

And he was learning fast.

As Yujin walked away, Hyunwoo appeared from the shadows almost immediately.

“Stay away from him,” the prince said.

Minho raised a brow. “Is that jealousy?”

Hyunwoo’s eyes were dark. “It’s a warning.”

Jisoo’s presence flickered in the air seconds later. Seojin stepped into view from the opposite corridor.

All three of them were drawn to Yujin now.

Pulled by gravity.

And Minho?

He had successfully returned the story to its intended path.

Mostly.

Except the atmosphere felt heavier.

More unstable.

Because obsession, once ignited, doesn’t stay contained.

It deepens.

It twists.

It demands.

And somewhere in the middle of it all stood Han Yujin — no longer innocent, no longer powerless — holding the attention of three of the most dangerous men in the empire.

While Kang Jaeheon watched.

Calculating.

Waiting.

Because if obsession could be engineered…

It could also explode.
