Feelings of the Heart

Serena reaches the top of the staircase.

Below her, the men are gathered in the grand lounge – marble floor, candlelight, and champagne untouched.

From above, she can see everything.

Marcus and Lucas already positioning themselves near the bar, making light conversations.

Daniel standing slightly apart from them holding a glass of champagne, not drinking, just looking at it, lost in his own thoughts.

Serena roams her eyes to observe the others. At the corner, she saw Sebastian leaning against a pillar – watching her.

She inhales slowly.

She straightens her shoulders and turns back down the staircase.

The music softens, and the cocktail party begins.

Lucas spotted Serena as she descended from the staircase. He turned to Marcus, “I’ll go first, my lady should not be left on her own.” he said with a charming smile on his face.

He approaches Serena with two glasses.

“Figured you shouldn’t drink alone.”

Serena smiled and took the glass of champagne Lucas handed.

He tells her a quick story about his chaotic family dinners that made them laugh.

She touches his arm briefly as she laughs, and that does not go unnoticed by the others.

Marcus who was left behind by Lucas always had his eyes on them, and those little gestures of her with someone else made his face fall.

Sebastian always observed Serena and those around her. He saw her interaction with Lucas, and Marcus’s reaction to that.

Daniel, like Sebastian is observing Serena.

He waits for his chance and doesn’t interrupt.

Serena ended her conversation with Lucas as she wants to communicate with others too.

From across the room, she noticed Daniel silently looking at her. She smiles and walks towards him.

“I was hoping we’d talk,” she says.

His expression softens.

They step outside to the balcony.

The city glows below them.

He tells her he was nervous walking in.

Those simple words made her smile. She finds him genuine, and cute.

With him, Serena felt at ease.

Their moment was quiet, but it was comfortable. No performance. No competition. Just two people under soft lights.

They look at each other. Not saying a word, nor doing anything else.

Serena couldn’t explain how she felt at that moment. But one thing’s for sure, it bothers her. A feeling she never felt before.

From inside – Marcus watches through the glass doors. His jaw tightens.

When Serena returns inside, Marcus intercepts her smoothly.

“Mind if I steal you?”

His tone is confident, almost territorial.

They sit near the fireplace.

He leans forward slightly towards her.

“You like sincerity,” he says. “But don’t mistake quiet for strength.”

She raises an eyebrow.

“And what does strength look like to you?”

He holds her gaze.

“Someone who can stand beside you. Not behind you.”

That line lands.

Because he unknowingly speaks to something real in her world.

She did not show any reaction to that. But in her mind, she registers it.

Later that night, as Serena walks toward the garden Sebastian appears beside her quietly.

“You look like you’re thinking too much.”

She gives a small smile.

“Am I that obvious?”

“Only if you’re paying attention.”

They walk slowly near the fountain.

He doesn’t ask surface questions.

Instead: “What scares you the most about this?”

She hesitates.

Almost says too much but stops herself.

He notices.

And instead of pushing, he steps closer.

Not touching.

Just close enough to shift the air.

The tension between them is thick.

They don’t kiss, but they don’t need to.

Inside, Lucas whispers to Kai. “Okay…that’s intense.”

Meanwhile, Jace spins Serena playfully during a group laugh.

Kai challenges her to a mini arm-wrestling contest on the patio table.

She wins, and they cheer dramatically.

It gives her relief from the heavier energy.

But even while laughing –

Her eyes drift toward where Sebastian stands.

And then briefly toward Daniel.

As the evening winds down, conversation grows softer.

Adrian speaks to her about long-term values. Ethan compliments her composure. And Noah asks her what kind of life she envisions.

Each leaves an impression.

But two linger stronger.

Daniel – for calm.

Sebastian – for fire.

The men retreat slowly to their rooms.

Serena stands alone at the balcony once more.

The wind moves her hair.

Below, the men’s room lights flicker off one by one.

She touches her ring unconsciously.

A subtle reminder of the world waiting behind these gates.

The camera pulls back.

The mansion glows against the night.

The music swells.

The screen fades to black.

Serena goes to her room. She took a shower and changed.

As she was getting ready to rest, she received a message from the production.

[ Good evening Serena,

We are sorry to disturb your rest,

But before you go to bed, we would like to have an interview with you.

We would be in your room in a while.

No need to prepare for anything.

Just be yourself, and wear something you’re comfortable with.]

Serena waited for a few minutes before hearing a knock on the door.

She opens the door for the production team that came to interview her.

“Hello, good evening,” she greets them.

“Good evening Serena. We’ll ready the camera now, you can just sit on the sofa beside the bed.”

“Okay”

After everything was ready, the interview started.

“Introduce yourself first.” The crew instructed.

“Hi, I’m Serena Vale. 24 years old. I’m a marketing executive from the Monteverde Group. I built my career from scratch after moving to the city alone when I was 22 years old.”

“The Monteverde Group, you mean the multi-billion-dollar international conglomerate that owns luxury hotels, real estate developments, fashion brands, and private investment firms?”

“Yeah”

“That’s a very high achievement for someone your age.”

“That may be because I put my ambition first before anything else.”

“That’s good. How about your past relationships? Can you tell us about that?”

“I only had one relationship. It has been a long time. I was 21 when I first fell in love. Too young and naive. I gave everything I could give in that relationship, only to be rewarded by betrayal.”

“Is that the reason why you have never been in a relationship for years?”

“Yes, I was heartbroken, and I couldn’t trust anyone. That’s also the reason why I moved to the city and focused on my career. At that time, I thought I needed to breathe…and think somewhere far. A place I could start again and build my own life.”

“How about now? You joined the Heart of Desire, does that mean you’re ready to open your heart again even with the risk of being hurt?”

“Of course, I’m here because I long for a love that feels safe and real. So even with the risk of being hurt, I’m ready to face it all."

“That’s great. You must have met all the men. What can you say about them?”

“They’re great. Everyone has different charms and strong points.”

“Can you tell us about your impression on each of them?”

“Yeah. I’ll start with Lucas. I’d say his a playful charmer. He has this charming and outgoing energy. He looks playful and friendly – probably a flirt who makes everyone laugh.

Adrian seems dependable and mature, maybe the quiet gentleman type.

Ethan looks like a sweet and romantic guy. He has a warm, passionate personality.

Kai was fun, youthful, and magnetic. He radiates a sunshine-boy energy – cheerful and maybe a bit mischievous.

Noah seems sensitive and thoughtful – maybe the poetic one.

Jace is trendy and expressive – possibly artistic and bold.

Marcus looks very competitive – maybe the strategic, ambitious man. He has a strong, determined energy.

Daniel feels kind and comforting. He’s sweet, sincere, and dependable.

Sebastian gives a mysterious, slightly flirty energy. He seems smooth, confident, and intriguing.”

“That’s a good description. You seem to be someone very observant.”

“I learned the hard way, I guess.”

“Probably, we all learn from our mistakes after all.”

“Yeah”

“This would be the last question; who among these men are you most drawn to?”

“Physically, I’d say Sebastian. He doesn’t try too hard. His eye contact lingers just long enough. He stands close, but not possessive. With him, I feel the tension, mystery, and heat. I don’t feel safe with him, on the contrary I feel alert. But that excites me. Sebastian makes me feel something intense, and unpredictable. Maybe that’s why I can’t ignore it.

Emotionally, I’m most drawn to Daniel. Unlike with Sebastian, with Daniel the pull isn’t explosive it’s grounding. He listens without interrupting. He doesn’t treat me like a prize to win, but a person to understand. When I speak, he watches my face – not the cameras. Daniel feels…steady, and I never realized how much I needed that. I felt like I could trust him, and unintentionally I shared more with him. With Daniel, I felt seen without being evaluated. He doesn’t make my heart race. He makes it rest. And that scares me. Because calm love feels unfamiliar to me.

Sebastian makes my pulse quicken.

Daniel makes me breathe easier.

One feels like fire.

One feels like home.

But me knowing myself… has always been more comfortable handling fire than allowing myself to rest.”
