The night sky above Hinokawa village burned red.
Flames devoured rooftops while thick smoke twisted upward into the dark sky. The peaceful mountain village that had once been filled with laughter and lantern light was now drowning in chaos.
Crackling fire. Shattered wood. Screams.
Ren stood in the middle of the ruined street, gripping the Blade of Raging Flames with both hands. The sword blazed brightly, casting orange light across the ground around him.
Across from him stood the towering demon.
Its body was massive, easily twice Ren’s height, with jagged black armor-like skin covering its chest and arms. Curved horns rose from its head, and its glowing yellow eyes stared at Ren with cruel amusement.
“So this is the chosen one,” the demon rumbled.
“The one who carries the flame.”
Ren swallowed hard, but he didn’t lower his sword.
“I don’t know what you mean,” Ren said, trying to keep his voice steady.
“But I won’t let you destroy my village.”
Behind him, villagers ran desperately through the burning streets. Some carried children. Others helped the injured. The fire spread quickly from building to building, turning homes into towers of flame.
Aiko rushed toward Ren, her face covered with soot.
“Ren!” she shouted. “The fire is spreading everywhere! We have to help them escape!”
Ren glanced back for a second.
Fear gripped his chest.
This was his home.
Every street. Every building. Every person.
He couldn’t let it disappear.
The demon laughed.
“Look at them run,” it said. “Like insects fleeing a storm.”
Its huge claw slammed into the ground.
BOOM.
The earth shook violently. The shockwave blasted through the street, knocking over carts and scattering burning debris everywhere.
Ren stumbled but managed to stay on his feet.
“You cannot save them,” the demon continued calmly. “Humans are fragile. Weak. They always burn in the end.”
Anger flared inside Ren.
The flames around his sword suddenly grew stronger.
“You’re wrong!” Ren shouted.
The demon tilted its head.
“Oh?”
Before it could move again, Ren charged forward.
The fiery blade left a trail of sparks behind him as he swung it with all his strength.
CLANG!
The sword struck the demon’s arm, sending a burst of glowing embers into the air. The force pushed Ren backward several steps.
The demon looked down at the mark on its arm.
Then it smiled.
“Interesting.”
Its massive claw shot forward like lightning.
Ren barely ducked in time as the attack smashed into a nearby house. The wooden wall exploded into splinters, and flames burst outward.
Ren rolled across the ground and quickly stood again.
The heat from the sword pulsed through his arms.
It felt alive.
Like the blade was guiding him.
Like it wanted to fight.
The demon stepped forward slowly.
“You have power,” it admitted.
“But you lack experience.”
Its glowing eyes narrowed.
“And power without control is meaningless.”
Suddenly the demon rushed forward with incredible speed.
Ren’s eyes widened.
The massive creature swung its claw downward like a hammer.
CRASH!
Ren raised the Blade of Raging Flames just in time. The impact sent a shock through his entire body, forcing him to his knees.
The ground cracked beneath him.
“You see?” the demon growled. “You cannot win.”
Ren’s arms trembled under the pressure.
The sword burned brighter.
A strange warmth spread from the blade into his chest again.
The same heat he had felt earlier.
The same voice seemed to whisper deep inside his mind.
Fight.
Ren clenched his teeth.
“I’m… not giving up!”
With a shout, he pushed upward and swung the blade sideways.
A wave of fire burst outward.
The demon jumped back as flames slashed across its chest.
For the first time, its expression changed.
“You dare injure me?” it snarled.
Behind Ren, Aiko and several villagers watched in shock.
“Ren…” Aiko whispered.
The boy she had grown up with now stood surrounded by fire, holding a sword made of pure flame.
Another demon suddenly appeared from the smoke, rushing toward a group of fleeing villagers.
Aiko’s eyes widened.
“Watch out!”
Ren turned just in time to see the creature lunging toward them.
Without thinking, he raised the blade.
“FLAME STRIKE!”
The sword swung through the air.
A blazing arc of fire shot forward like a comet.
The demon was struck instantly.
Its body exploded into burning ash.
The villagers stared in disbelief.
Ren stared at his own sword.
“Did… I do that?” he whispered.
But the large horned demon only laughed louder.
“So the flame begins to awaken.”
Its massive body leaned forward.
“Good.”
Its eyes glowed brighter.
“That means destroying you will be far more entertaining.”
The demon slammed both fists into the ground.
The earth cracked open as a wave of dark energy burst outward, extinguishing nearby flames and throwing Ren across the street.
Ren crashed into a wooden cart and hit the ground hard.
Pain shot through his body.
His sword flickered but remained lit.
The demon slowly walked toward him.
“You are still a child,” it said coldly.
“You cannot control the ancient flame.”
Ren struggled to stand.
Maybe the demon was right.
He didn’t understand this power.
He didn’t even know why he had it.
But he knew one thing.
If he lost…
Hinokawa would disappear forever.
Ren gripped the sword again.
The flames surged higher.
“I might not understand it yet,” Ren said, breathing heavily.
“But I’ll use this power to protect everyone.”
The demon stopped walking.
For a moment, the wind blew through the burning village.
Ash drifted through the air like falling snow.
Then the demon smiled again.
“Then show me, flame bearer.”
Its claws rose slowly.
“How brightly you can burn.”
Ren lifted the Blade of Raging Flames once more.
Behind him, the remaining villagers ran toward the forest, trying to escape the spreading fire.
The fate of Hinokawa now rested on one boy.
One sword.
One burning power that had just begun to awaken.
And as the demon lunged forward again, Ren stepped into the flames—
ready to fight for everything he loved.
