CHAPTER 2

– Fated Encounter

The cave trembled as if the mountains themselves were shivering. Xiao Lanhua stumbled backward, wings fluttering frantically, her heart pounding so violently she feared it might burst from her chest. Dark energy swirled around Dongfang Qingcang, his figure towering and suffocating. Each step he took toward her made the ground quake, the shadows around him thickening like living smoke.

“Do you know what you’ve done?” His voice rumbled, deep and commanding, sending shivers down her spine.

“I… I didn’t know… I just…” Xiao Lanhua’s words faltered. She tried to explain, but the fear in her throat choked her.

The cave shivered violently. Stones cracked, and a gust of dark wind swept through, knocking her hair into her face. Instinctively, she raised her hands, letting her fairy magic bloom in a desperate shield. A protective bubble of light flared around her, pushing against the encroaching shadows.

With a deep breath, she forced herself to flee. Her small wings carried her out of the cave, past the twisted roots and jagged rocks, the oppressive presence of the Demon Lord pressing against her back like a storm ready to break.

Dongfang Qingcang stopped. The dark aura around him pulsed and then stilled, leaving an unsettling quiet. His hand brushed against the faint glow on his palm—the subtle pulse of the “One Heart Curse.”

So… this little fairy is bound to me.

Irritation flickered through his thoughts. He hated feeling tethered, controlled, even slightly. And yet… curiosity gnawed at him. Her life, her pain, her very heartbeat were now entwined with his. That thought alone was both irritating and compelling. He narrowed his eyes, watching the path she had taken. Interesting. Very interesting…

By the time Xiao Lanhua returned to her village, the sun was dipping low, painting the sky in gold and rose. Her wings drooped, exhausted from exertion, and her skin was pale from fear. Fellow fairies turned, noticing the change in her demeanor.

“Xiao Lanhua! What happened? You’re trembling!” an elder fairy demanded, her voice sharp with concern.

“I… I just got lost in the forest,” Xiao Lanhua said quickly, forcing a weak smile. “It’s nothing… really.”

The elder’s eyes narrowed. She could feel the shift in the air—the residue of a power far older, far darker, than anything the village had seen in generations. Something had changed. A great danger had been unleashed.

Far from the peaceful village, shadows gathered and twisted, forming a path through the void between dimensions. Dongfang Qingcang moved with deliberate calm, leaving the cave behind. The world he entered now—the human realm—was foreign and strange, yet the threads of fate were clear. He could sense her signature: delicate, pure, and stubbornly alive. Shadows swirled and clung to him, a silent testament to his enduring, lethal power.

That night, Xiao Lanhua collapsed onto her bed, exhaustion overwhelming her. But sleep brought no relief. Instead, her dreams were invaded by a figure cloaked in shadow. His eyes glowed red, piercing through the veil of sleep, and his voice—low, chilling, yet unmistakably real—called to her.

“Since you freed me… our fates are linked.”

Her body jerked awake, sweat clinging to her skin. Her chest heaved, and a strange weakness weighed her down, pulling her in ways she didn’t understand. The curse was real, tangible, and it reached into her very bones.

The elders convened in the heart of the village, their faces grim as they consulted ancient scrolls. The legends spoke of the Moon Supreme, a demon lord whose power had nearly destroyed the fairy realm millennia ago. And now, the little fairy before them had awakened it.

“This little one… she’s connected to him now,” the elder whispered, voice tight with worry. “We must protect her.”

Charms were prepared, wards placed around the village, and warnings were given. Xiao Lanhua was forbidden to leave the safety of the village until they understood the extent of what had been unleashed.

Days later, in the forest bordering human settlements, shadows moved like living mist. Dongfang Qingcang appeared fully in this world, his presence bending the air around him. Birds scattered, and animals fled, sensing the predator that walked among them.

He paused at a faint glow in the distance—Xiao Lanhua’s magical signature. It was faint, delicate, yet unmistakable. His gaze softened ever so slightly—not kindness, but acknowledgment. Unlike other fairies he had battled, she was different. Her light was pure, untainted, and—intriguingly—persistent.

Unaware, Xiao Lanhua wandered near a stream to calm herself, letting the gentle trickle of water soothe her frayed nerves. She didn’t notice the subtle shift in the shadows behind her, the faint pull in her chest that whispered of the curse tying her to something far greater—and far darker—than she had ever known.

A presence stirred, and the air thickened. The soft rustle of leaves betrayed him before she saw him, but even then, she sensed more than saw the figure approaching.

“You can’t escape… nor do I wish to let you go,” a low, commanding voice whispered, carrying both warning and fascination.

Xiao Lanhua’s heart stuttered. Her wings twitched instinctively, and she turned—but the darkness seemed to breathe, hiding him just out of sight. Her pulse raced. Fear, curiosity, and an unshakable sense of destiny knotted together in her chest.

Their fates were now fully intertwined—and the shadow of danger loomed ever closer.
