My Falling Angel

My Falling Angel

Celestial Heavenly Realm Gathering

I’ve stood at the edge of the Celestial Gathering Grounds more times than I can count, watching guardian angels pour in from every corner of the heavens. Their wings brush against cloud-soft stone, their light mingling like starlight woven into a single tapestry—hundreds of them, all here for the same reason: the announcement of new missions. Today, though, the air feels different. It hums with a quiet anticipation, as if even the wind knows something important is about to unfold.

The Head of the Heavenly Guardian Realm steps forward, her form glowing with the gentle, unyielding light of a thousand suns. Her voice, warm but firm, carries across the grounds without needing to rise—every word reaches every ear, clear as a bell. “Guardians,” she says, and the chatter fades instantly, “you have served with honor, guiding souls through the tangled paths of mortal life. Today, we honor one among you who has earned the chance to write a new story—her own.”

She pauses, her gaze sweeping over the crowd until it lands on one figure, small but bright, standing near the front. “I call upon Meimei.”

I watch as Meimei steps forward, her wings fluttering slightly with a mix of nerves and excitement. She’s been a guardian for centuries, guiding countless souls, but this… this is different. The Head smiles, a soft, knowing expression, and holds out a scroll wrapped in silk threaded with gold. “This is your last mission, child,” she says, her voice softening. “You will receive the heavenly order, and the name of the child you shall guide—from their first breath to their last, leading them toward a life of goodness and a peaceful afterlife. When this task is done, you will be granted the greatest gift we can bestow: reincarnation. You may choose to be anything you wish in your next life—human, animal, even a flower that blooms in the meadows. It is yours to decide.”

As Meimei reaches for the scroll, the Head’s expression turns serious, and she places a hand gently on the angel’s shoulder. “But remember,” she says, her tone firm again, “the two great rules that bind all guardians. First: you must never interfere in the natural course of the person’s life. You may guide, you may whisper hope, but you cannot change what is meant to be. Second: you are not allowed to touch the one you guide. Your connection is spiritual, not physical—this boundary must never be broken.”

Meimei nods, her eyes steady as she takes the scroll. I can see the determination in her stance, but also the flicker of hope—hope for the child she’ll guide, and hope for the new life that awaits her. As she turns to face the crowd, I dip my pen in starlight and begin to write. This is the start of a story not just of guidance, but of a guardian’s final journey home—and the beginning of something entirely new.

••• Meimei POV •••

The gathering fades behind me like a wisp of cloud, and suddenly, I’m falling—not with fear, but with the soft rush of wind against my wings, a gentle descent that feels like coming home to something I haven’t yet known. The light of heaven blurs into the warm, golden glow of a mortal room, and when my feet touch the ground, I’m standing still, solid, right beside a bed where a family huddles together.

There he is—swaddled in soft cloth, his tiny face pink and peaceful, the newborn child I’ve been sent to guide. His parents lean over him, their faces lit up with a love so bright it almost rivals the light of home. The mother’s eyes crinkle as she grins, turning to her husband. “Oh, so cute—he smiled! Did you see that, my love?” she says, her voice thick with joy. The father laughs, nodding, and reaches out to brush a finger gently over the baby’s cheek.

I stand there, unseen but not unfelt, my form glowing soft and quiet beside them. I open my mouth, and my heavenly voice—warm, like sunlight through leaves—wraps around the child. “Welcome, little one,” I say, my words a secret only he can hear. And just like that, his lips curve into another smile, small and sweet, as if he’s answered me.

From that moment on, our journey began. I would be the shadow at his side, the whisper of hope in his ear, the quiet presence that walks with him through every step of his life—until the day I lead him to his afterlife, and finally, to the new life I’ve been promised.
