In the pale light of early dawn, the forest path stretched endlessly ahead. The exhaustion from the clash on the first night was still clearly visible on all three of their faces. The bandage Naira had tied around Aarin’s shoulder remained damp, and each movement reminded him of the wound beneath it. Raven walked ahead, his eyes fixed on the signals appearing across his device. Naira moved in silence, sensing the world around them with quiet focus.
But Aarin’s mind was far from calm.
At last, his patience snapped.
“Can someone finally answer me now?” he demanded. “Who am I? What is this power? And why is everyone chasing me?”
Without turning back, Raven replied, “You don’t need to ask the same question in three different ways.”
Aarin’s anger flared at once.
“If you gave me one straight answer, I wouldn’t have to keep asking!”
Before the tension could explode again, Naira stepped in with a soft smile.
“Can the two of you talk without fighting for once?”
They continued a little farther before coming upon an ancient broken stone pillar. Strange symbols had been carved into its surface, worn by time but still visible. Raven stopped in front of it and activated his device.
At once, glowing forms appeared in the air.
Five symbols floated before them.
Agni.
Prana.
Structure.
Maya.
Veeravalam.
Raven gestured toward them.
“This world is not just the surface we see, Aarin,” he said. “It is made of many layers. And each force comes from its own source.”
Then he began to explain them one by one.
“Agni — the power of fire.
Prana — the power of life.
Structure — tools, form, and control.
Maya — perception, illusion, and the movement of the mind.
Veeravalam — physical strength, conflict, and the force of battle.”
Aarin looked down at his palm. A small spark still burned there, calm and steady.
“So… I’m not the only one?”
Raven answered immediately.
“Unfortunately, no.”
Naira spoke gently.
“Power itself is not the problem, Aarin. What changes the world is who uses it… and why.”
At that exact moment, Raven’s device let out a sudden warning tone.
The ground trembled slightly beneath their feet.
From somewhere ahead came the sound of metal striking metal.
All three of them moved quickly toward it.
Within moments, they reached what looked like the remains of a collapsed pass. And the sight before them stopped them cold.
Several bodies lay scattered across the ground—forms similar to the corrupted hunters that had chased them before. But these had been cut down brutally, as if each one had been split apart in a single strike.
Then, through the mist, a figure slowly stepped forward.
A massive sword rested across his shoulder. His armor was marked with the scars of countless battles. There was no fear in his face—only the arrogant half-smile of someone completely at home on a battlefield. Confidence lived in every step he took.
It was Kael.
He stopped and looked straight at Aarin.
“So,” he said, “you’re the fire warrior?”
Aarin faced him without retreating.
“Funny. Everyone keeps showing up saying the same thing.”
Kael’s smile widened.
“Good. No fear in your face.”
Raven stepped in immediately.
“Kael, not now.”
But Kael ignored him.
“No, Raven. I need to see whether he’s truly worthy.”
Before the sentence had even fully left his mouth, he lunged forward.
The attack came like thunder—fast, sudden, merciless. Kael’s sword struck the nearby stone pillar, and it shattered instantly into flying pieces.
“Can’t people talk before trying to kill each other?” Aarin shouted, hurling a blast of fire at him.
Kael knocked the flames aside with the flat of his blade.
“In battle, the truth reveals itself!” he laughed.
Each of his steps shook the ground. At the same time, the crimson symbol on his body began to glow.
Veeravalam.
The power of battle.
“This,” Kael said, “is only the beginning.”
But before their clash could fully erupt—
Something black fell from the sky.
A deafening impact thundered across the ruins.
Smoke and dust exploded outward, swallowing everything.
When the cloud finally began to clear, a monstrous corrupted beast stood at the center of the crater.
It was far larger and more twisted than the hunters from before. Its body was covered in black decay, warped and broken in unnatural ways. Its eyes burned with violent madness.
Naira’s face tightened.
“The corruption has spread this far already…”
Kael shifted instantly into battle stance.
“Fine. We can continue the test later.”
Aarin looked at him and said, “For the first time, I agree with you.”
Raven quickly assessed the field.
“Kael, hold the front line. Aarin, prepare the final strike.”
Kael muttered under his breath, “I still don’t like him.”
Aarin answered at once, “Welcome to the club.”
Even in that tiny exchange, tension remained between them. But in the next second, the beast roared and charged.
Kael stepped forward and met it head-on, stopping its attack with the full force of his strength. The earth trembled under the impact.
Naira released her green life energy, allowing it to spread around Aarin and steady his mind. Raven watched everything, calculating the exact moment they needed.
Aarin slowly closed his eyes… then opened them again.
This time, there was no confusion inside him.
No fear.
The fire in his hand no longer burned wildly.
It burned with awareness.
He fixed his eyes on the beast ahead and said quietly,
“This time… I won’t miss.”
