Chapter 2

Zander, on the other hand, is a wayward young man with no greater aspiration than making it through the day in one piece. His weary, weathered face bears the deep tracks of a brutal life, where alcohol, hunger, and brawls are his only constant companions. Every sunrise is a fresh struggle to survive in a world that seems to have turned its back on him long ago. His eyes, dimmed by layers of sadness and despair, hide a wounded soul—a heart that has forgotten how to dream. Zander has grown accustomed to the harshness of existence and to the hollow sensation of emptiness that follows him like a shadow. He has learned to survive strictly in the present, never daring to glance at the future or hope for a better tomorrow. His only true ambition is to reach the night without life dealing him any new misfortunes.

(Let us pause for a moment to ask: Why do the characters, or at least one of them, have such a tragic life? The answer is very simple: because it’s my story and that’s the way I want it.) (Evil laughter)

Our handsome protagonist lives in a small house where the conditions are almost unimaginable. Poverty permeates every corner; leaks are scattered across the ceiling like open wounds, and gaps in the walls allow the winter wind to enter without mercy, freezing the air until it bites. Yet, despite the squalor, Zander has learned to find a flicker of happiness amidst the scarcity. To him, true wealth resides in the raw experiences and the rare moments of human connection he finds in the gutter of his daily life. He has learned to value the simplest things, finding a strange beauty in the fragility of his own existence. A burning swallow of cheap liquor, a gritty conversation with a stray friend, or the sudden, innocent smile of a child on the street—these are the small details that fill his heart with a warmth that no luxury could ever match. He understands that happiness is not found in possessions, but in the capacity to appreciate what truly matters: the strength of the spirit and the ability to find joy in the heart of adversity.

Within his humble abode, the worn walls whisper stories of struggle and sacrifice. The old, battered furniture stands as a silent witness to countless sleepless nights where Zander dives into his deepest thoughts, searching for answers in the dark. Sometimes, his only company is the low hiss of the wind and the twinkling of the stars peeking shyly through his cracked window. In those lonely hours, Zander faces his inner demons, the solitude that clings to his skin, and the suffocating uncertainty of what lies ahead. But it is also in those nights where he finds the space for true reflection, where his mind breaks free from the pressures of survival and connects with his deepest essence. In the stillness of the midnight hour, Zander finds an ephemeral peace—a fragile serenity amidst the chaos of his life.

The streets Zander walks are filled with heavy shadows and whispers, as if the wind itself carries the sighs of those who have surrendered their hope. But he, with his defiant gaze and indomable spirit, refuses to let the world break him. Every step he takes is an act of resistance, a silent affirmation that his life holds value despite his circumstances. Zander has become a survivor, a warrior fighting against hardship with a strength born of pure determination. His gaze, though exhausted, still reflects a tiny spark—a buried longing to find a place in the world where he can finally be happy. Every day he steps out into the world is a battle, a struggle against the gravity of despair, a search for a single ray of light in the middle of the darkness.

Hunger often gnaws at his stomach, but Zander finds a strange solace in the glimmers of light that filter through the cracks of his room. He watches the stars like tiny sparks of promise, reminding him that there is something vast beyond his grim reality. In those moments of contemplation, he allows himself to imagine a love that transcends the barriers imposed by his environment.

In the midst of this darkness, Zander becomes a poet of life, finding grace in the most unexpected corners. The desolate streets become stages for his own internal stories, where dreams intertwine with reality and imagination becomes his most faithful ally. Through his silent words, he finds a way to express emotions too deep for speech, giving a voice to the parts of himself that the world tried to silence.

But his life is about to take an unforeseen turn. One bitter winter afternoon, while walking through the desolate streets of his neighborhood, Zander encounters a mysterious old man. The man carries an ancient, worn book—a volume that seems to pulse with secrets and hidden powers. Intrigued by the impossible thought that this book could change his destiny, Zander decides to approach the man and strike up a conversation.

With heavy caution, the old man reveals that the book is a magical artifact, capable of granting wishes to those who use it correctly. All Zander had to do was focus entirely on the reason he sought the artifact, read its words, and he would be granted the chance to find what he searched for. Zander only wanted one thing: to find the true love he had dreamed of in his loneliest hours—a love that had been denied to him time and again because of his scars and the reputation that preceded him.

Captivated by the idea of rewriting his fate, Zander takes the book into his trembling hands and opens it slowly. The pages, yellowed and worn by the passage of centuries, reveal mysterious words and enigmatic symbols. With every word he breathes in, he feels a new energy coursing through his body, as if the universe itself were finally conspiring in his favor.

As he reads further, Zander is submerged in a world of magic and infinite possibilities. He discovers that true love is not limited by external walls, but resides in the depths of the heart and the connection two souls can share. Through the pages, Zander drinks in valuable lessons about love; his concentration became so intense, so consuming, that without realizing it, he drifted into a deep, supernatural sleep.
