EPISODE 2: OBEY AND OBSERVE

(The title card, “EPISODE 2: OBEY AND OBSERVE,” fades in, a simple sans-serif font against a background of notebook paper texture. The panels below feature clean lines and a vibrant, illustrative comic book style, similar to standard digital manga, capturing the energy and emotions of a college classroom in Bengaluru.)

SCENE 1: THE FIRST BENCH (MORNING)

(A five-panel sequence, arranged vertically to show the progression of the classroom filling.)

(Panel 1.1: Wide shot, looking down the classroom rows towards the back. The back benches are already a chaotic tangle of backpacks, denim jackets, and noisy groups. Monish’s deep chocolate skin is silhouetted against the morning light from a large window as she stands, clutching her bag strap.)

MONIKA (V.O.): (Text in a blue bubble, placed near her silhouette) I wanted the last bench. That's where the stories happen. Where you can watch the world without being seen.

(Panel 1.2: A medium shot of a simple, framed photo on a bedside table in Monika’s sparse dorm room. The photo is of a middle-aged woman with a warm, strict smile, wearing a traditional cotton saree.)

MOM’S VOICE (V.O.): (Text in a purple, floral-bordered speech bubble, as if echoing in Monika’s mind) "If you go to degree, study well. And always, always sit in the first bench. That is where the teachers focus."

(Panel 1.3: Close-up on Monika’s face. Her brow is furrowed, and her eyes, an intense, deep brown, are fixed on the back. She lets out a small sigh that forms a tiny, swirling cloud icon.)

MONIKA: (Text in a blue bubble) I promised.

(Panel 1.4: Low-angle shot, looking up at Monika’s legs as she takes her first, resolute step down the empty front aisle. Her sneakers are scuffed, practical. The silence of the front rows is heavy compared to the noise behind her.)

(SFX: STEP, STEP, STEP…)

(Panel 1.5: Monika slumps into the polished wooden seat of the very first row, directly in front of the teacher’s desk, which is currently empty. She places her backpack beside her on the bench with a definitive thump.)

MONIKA (V.O.): (Text in a blue bubble) The first bench. The loneliest place in the room.

SCENE 2: GHOSTS IN THE FRONT ROW (AFTERNOON)

(A two-panel layout, separated horizontally.)

(Panel 2.1: A detailed three-quarter view of the front row, capturing the isolation. Monika is sitting rigidly, a sterile notebook and one black pen placed perfectly straight on the desk. She stares ahead, but a thin, grey line traces her peripheral vision towards the empty seat next to her.)

MONIKA (V.O.): (Text in a blue bubble) I see Rashmitha again. I can't talk to her. It’s too soon. This is how it always goes. I make an impression, then I lock it away.

(Panel 2.2: A mirrored shot, looking from Monika’s empty neighbor-seat toward her. The space is vast, the light harsh. Monika is a fixed point of brown and white (her uniform-like white shirt) in a sea of empty desk.)

SCENE 3: THE KINDHEARTED OBSERVATION

(A four-panel grid, showing distinct moments of observation over several days.)

(Panel 3.1: Medium shot, looking over the shoulder of an anonymous student. A few rows back, a group is laughing loudly. RASHMITHA, her skin slightly lighter, a honey-brown, and her hair in a stylish high ponytail, is in the middle. She has a pen behind her ear and is helping another student untangle a pair of headphones with a gentle smile.)

MONIKA (V.O.): (Text in a blue bubble) I watch her. From here, she’s small. But she is… kind.

(Panel 3.2: Medium shot. It’s a group presentation in another class. Rashmitha isn't presenting, but she is operating the projector. The group presenting is nervous. When one student stumbles, Rashmitha gives a quick, confident nod of encouragement from the darkness by the machine.)

MONIKA (V.O.): (Text in a blue bubble) She doesn't just care about her friends. She cares about everyone.

(Panel 3.3: Close-up on Rashmitha’s hand (honey-brown skin) placing a freshly sharpened pencil on the desk of a student who had dropped theirs. She withdraws her hand without waiting for thanks.)

MONIKA (V.O.): (Text in a blue bubble) She’s… kindhearted.

(Panel 3.4: A split-screen panel. On the left, a close-up on Monika’s intense brown eyes, which are softened. On the right, a medium shot of Rashmitha laughing freely in a corridor. A small heart icon floats near Monika’s eye.)

MONIKA (V.O.): (Text in a blue bubble) I’m starting to like her.

SCENE 4: THE NEW SHADOW (EVENING)

(A single, large, slightly wider-angle panel of the classroom entrance.)

(Panel 4.1: The late evening sun streams through the doorway, creating long, deep-orange shadows. A new girl, SNEHA, creeps inside. She is small, her skin a light caramel-brown, her hair pulled into two messy pigtails. She clutches her bag close to her chest and is looking down at the floor, deliberately avoiding all eye contact.)

(SFX: CREAK… PITTER-PATTER…)

MONIKA (V.O.): (Text in a blue bubble) Then, I see Sneha. Silent. Scared of new people.

(Monika, from her first bench vantage point, is the only person looking at Sneha. Their gazes are parallel, not intersecting.)

MONIKA (V.O.): (Text in a blue bubble) Just like me. I won’t let her feel alone.

SCENE 5: CLOSING THE DISTANCE (WEEKS LATER)

(A two-panel layout, set in the same close-up style of Panel 2.1, but full of interaction.)

(Panel 5.1: A tight close-up on the front bench. Monika and Sneha are shoulder-to-shoulder, their notebooks open, but both are whispering behind their hands. Their faces are a collage of chocolate-brown and caramel-brown. They are grinning, and tiny, stylized, sharp-edged laughing speech bubbles burst from them.)

MONIKA: (Text in a blue, whispering-dotted bubble) Okay, okay, look at Professor Sharma. Why does he look exactly like a confused owl when he forgets his markers?

(Panel 5.2: Another angle on the close-up, focusing on their shared joke and their proximity. Sneha is pointing covertly at the blackboard, her eyes crinkling. A little fun icon is integrated into the text bubble.)

MONIKA (V.O.): (Text in a blue bubble) I talk to her. We get close. We make fun of the lectures, the strict deadlines, the weird campus rumors.

SCENE 6: THE MATHEMATICS CRUSH

(A single, large panel, capturing a single, dynamic moment.)

(Panel 6.1: This panel is split by an intense, angled line. On the right, is a detailed and slightly idealized close-up profile shot of the MATHEMATICS TEACHER, a young man with sharp features and thoughtful eyes, scribbling complex formulas on the blackboard. The chalk dust highlights his dark hair. The background behind him is subtly blurred, a bokeh of mathematical symbols and light.)

(On the left, slightly smaller but in sharp focus, is a close-up of Sneha. She is frozen. Her caramel skin is a deep rose-blush. Her eyes are wide, glassy, and fixed on the teacher. Her mouth is slightly ajar. A large, stylized HEART icon with pulsing lines surrounds her head. A small crush text icon floats near her eye.)

SNEHA: (Text in a pink, slightly wavering speech bubble, aimed near the crush icon) I think… the math teacher is kinda cute…

SCENE 7: THE JEALOUS OBSERVATION (WEEKS LATER)

(A final, large, wider-angle panel of the classroom, focusing on dynamic interaction and distance.)

(Panel 7.1: A complex three-point perspective shot of the classroom during a break. In the foreground, Monika and Sneha are standing by the front bench, laughing freely and leaning in. They form a closed, happy circle.)

MONIKA (V.O.): (Text in a blue bubble, large and bold) Time is flying. Monika and Sneha, together.

(In the background, standing several rows back and to the side, is NAMEERA. Her skin is a vibrant cinnamon-brown, and she is wearing a stylish, modern top with ripped jeans. She has her arms crossed tightly, and her face is in sharp profile, scowling intensely. A thin, jagged JEALOUSY icon, like a cracked mirror, is superimposed near her.)

NAMEERA: (Text in a dark-red, jagged-edged speech bubble, with little steam-puff icons) …Look at them. What are they always talking about? Why are they so close?

(Nameera’s scowl is laser-focused on the laughing duo. The entire panel has a gradient shift from bright, friendly color near Monika and Sneha to darker, slightly desaturated tones near Nameera.)

MONIKA (V.O.): (Text in a final blue bubble, smaller, at the bottom of the panel) Nameera. I can see she's jealous of me and Sneha. But… why? We're just talking.

(The final panel FADES TO BLACK, leaving only the jealous red gradient near Nameera.)
