At the hospital
Damian stepped inside the hospital room. Louis was sitting there, his one hand casually holding his phone as he kept staring, not at the phone but at the screen apparently showing his grandmother's heartbeat.
"I didn't know you were here." Damian says taking a seat beside him.
"Yeah, I wanted to stay here for a moment." He says, his eyes shifting at Damian.
"But it's already night, aren't you going home?" He opened a water bottle, drinking a sip.
"No, I'm staying here for the night." His tone surprisingly soft. Damian stopped drinking midway.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, you go home and rest." He states
"Okay then, I might go home." He says slowly, studying Louis's expressions. His jaw was tighter, again.
Damian gets up from his seat taking a glance at his grandma before leaving.
He comes out of the hospital. He looks at the right, the Café was open. His eyes travelled up at the sign.
'The Golden Latte'
It was a cliché, yet he gravitated towards it.
He stepped inside the café, again. But this time, he wasn't there alone. Few people were still hustling around, drinking coffee, laughing, chatting.
He goes to the counter to order, expecting her. But an elderly woman was at the counter.
"A tiramisu...please." The words slipped out without him forming a thought.
"Oh, would you like anything else? A beverage?" She asks looking at the computer screen.
"One Tea, without milk." He adds.
She nods typing something.
"Your total is $5.49 sir. Would you play by cash or card?"
"Card." He states as he takes out his card out, paying.
"Okay sir, your order will be ready soon. Please take a seat." She looked similar from the girl last night.
He nods and sits on an empty chair, far end of the café. His gaze roaming all around the café, without actually seeing anything.
.
.
"I don't think this can work out."
.
Her voice rang in his ears.
his eyes immediately shut close. Exhaling frustratingly as he opnes his phone. After a few minutes,
"Damian D'Angelo "
He looked at the counter. His eyes widen as he spots her. He blinks once... Then twice. Eventually walking towards the counter.
"Thanks." His voice low, almost hesitant.
"Um... What's wrong?" Regina asks as she sees him looking at the tray without taking it.
He looks at her.
"No- nothing." She instantly sensed the shift in his tone.
He took the tray and slowly went to his table. His steps slower than what she saw the other day. She sighed, it was a routine to her.
Many people came in the Café, some happy, while some sad. She couldn't help but notice the way their eyes crinkled when smiling. The hesitation in their voices when gloomy.
She noticed it every time.
She remembered what Grace said on call earlier.
.
.
"Regina, I broke up with him."
.
Grace's voice low, from the other side of call.
.
Is that really him? Her boyfriend?
Should I ask him? No, that would be awkward right?
................
"Regina, can you take this order?" Her mother shouted from the service kitchen.
"Yes, mom" she goes after taking a last glance at him.
After a few minutes, she comes out. Her eyes scanning the whole café. There were fewer customers now. Eyes moved to the table in a corner-empty, no Damian.
It wasn't like she was expecting him to stay, but something shifted in her chest.
Her eyes fell on a wallet, unowned. Sitting on the same table Damian sat earlier. Curiosity got best if her and she slowly went towards it.
She opened it. His ID flashed first.
'Dr. Damian William D'Angelo'
'Male'
'Dentist'
Hmm...so he's a dentist.
She thought taking out his ID.
her eyes widened to what she saw next.
A photo.
It wasn't just a photo. It was someone clearly Familiar to her. A face she could never forget.
Grace
Her breath hitched.
He was indeed her boyfriend ...
or now an ex.
.
.
She turned back to her work again.

Regina stepped inside her home along with her mom and dad. A small fluff suddenly launched towards her, it was her dog, Rumi.
A small Aussie.
"He-hey, calm down Rumi. I just got here." She said catching her. The dog began to lock her cheeks.
"She probably misses you more than us." Her mother entered from behind. Regina smiled and put the dog down.
"Yeah, maybe. I'll go freshen up." She headed to her room.
After few minutes, she came out of her room straight to the kitchen. Her shoulders slouched.
"What's for dinner?" She sat down on the dinning table.
"Everything you don't like." Her father commented to which Regina rolled her eyes.
"Ofcouse."
"No, I made rice and chicken curry." Her mother said setting down the plates. Regina's eyes sparkled hearing that.
"See, I'm mom's favorite." She side hugged her mother as she showed a mocking smile to her father.
"And my favorite is Rumi." He said and Rumi came to kitchen running as soon as her name was taken.
Mrs. Lawrence settles down on the dining table.
"Regina, what is going on with you?" She asks as she took a spoonful of her bite.
"Hmm? What does that refer to?" Regina asks mid-bite.
"Are you going to use your degree or not?" Her tone had an edge. Regina stopped, her eyes sharply turned to her.
"But mom, I like what I'm doing now. I want this café. " She spoke almost winning.
"Look pumpkin, you don't have to choose the café because it feels like a responsibility. I just want you to do what you love." Her hand reached out.
"Mom I love this café and don't call me that name again." Her lips downturned. Her mother let out a chuckle.
"D'Angelo"
"Wasn't he?"
Her father spoke out of no where.
"Huh?" Regina's brows furrowed.
" Was he Louis?" Her father questioned again.
"N-no" Her father exhaled audibly.
"I know him."
