The classroom carried its usual hum, but for Mingyu, something felt subtly altered.
She had barely settled into her seat, her notebook open and pen poised, when she sensed a presence beside her.
Not loud.
Not abrupt.
Just… there.
She turned slightly.
Kim Minseok.
He had taken the empty seat next to hers as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Silence stretched between them—
awkward,
unfamiliar,
almost fragile.
Mingyu lowered her gaze to her notebook, pretending to focus, though her pen hadn’t moved even once.
Minseok noticed.
A faint smile touched his lips.
“Do you always ignore new people,” he said softly, “or am I just special?”
Mingyu blinked, slightly caught off guard. She hesitated before replying, her voice low—
“I’m not ignoring… I’m just not used to talking.”
“Hmm,” he leaned back slightly,
studying her, “then I guess I’ll have to get used to talking for both of us.”
That earned the smallest reaction from her—a barely visible smile.
And just like that, the tension eased.
The conversation didn’t explode into something big. It grew slowly.
Simple questions.
Light responses.
He asked about her subjects.
She answered briefly.
He made a quiet joke.
She didn’t laugh—
but she didn’t ignore it either.
By the end of it, something had shifted.
Not dramatically.
But enough.
Enough to call it… a beginning.
Break time arrived.
The classroom grew louder as students stepped out, filling the corridors with movement and noise.
Mingyu and Minseok remained seated,
still talking—now more naturally than before.
And that’s when—
A shadow fell across the desk.
Mingyu looked up.
Duanxiu.
He stood there, his expression unreadable, but his eyes—sharp,
observant—were fixed on one thing.
Minseok.
There was a pause.
A brief,
heavy silence.
Minseok turned his head slightly, meeting his gaze with calm indifference.
“Senior?” Minseok spoke first, polite but distant. “Do you need something?”
Duanxiu didn’t respond immediately.
Instead, his eyes flickered to Mingyu for a second
—then back to Minseok.
His jaw tightened ever so slightly.
“I was looking for her,” he said, his tone low. Controlled.
Mingyu felt it instantly.
Something was off.
“I was just talking—” she started, but Duanxiu cut her off.
“With him?”
The sharpness in his voice made her pause.
Minseok leaned back slightly, crossing his arms, unfazed.
“Is there a problem?” he asked calmly.
Duanxiu let out a quiet breath that almost sounded like a scoff.
“No,” he said, though his tone said otherwise. “Just… be careful who you get comfortable with.”
The air grew heavier.
Mingyu frowned slightly, confusion creeping in.
Why was he talking like that?
Minseok’s gaze didn’t waver.
“If you have something to say, say it clearly.”
Duanxiu’s lips curved faintly—but there was no warmth in it.
“I don’t repeat myself.”
And then—
Mingyu spoke.
“Minseok is just my friend.”
The moment the words left her lips—
Something snapped.
Duanxiu’s expression darkened.
Before she could react—
His hand closed around her wrist.
Firm.
Warm.
Unyielding.
“Mingyu,” he said quietly.
But this time—
there was no softness.
Only something intense.
Possessive.
“Come with me.”
“Duanxiu—what are you—”
But he didn’t wait.
He pulled her along, his grip steady as he led her out of the classroom, through the corridor—
And into an empty classroom nearby.
The door shut behind them.
And the silence that followed—
Felt anything but calm.
