INTO THE SHADOWS
The city looked calm in daylight.
Too calm.
OPERATIONS ROOM – MORNING:-
Screens glowed with fresh data.
Phuwin stood in front of a digital board, mapping connections.
Lines. Names. Patterns.
Chaos—organized.
Pond leaned against the table, arms crossed.
Watching.
Not the screen.
Phuwin.
Joong entered.
“We have a lead.”
Dunk spun his chair. “Already?”
Joong nodded.
“One of the signal relays from last night—traced to a private club.”
Pond straightened.
“Front?”
Joong: “Most likely.”
Phuwin tapped the screen.
“Not just a front. A recruitment point.”
Silence
Dunk frowned. “You’re saying… civilians?”
Phuwin nodded slowly.
“They’re not just planting bombs. They’re building a network.”
Joong looked at Pond.
“You and Phuwin go in.”
A pause.
“Undercover.”
Pond’s expression didn’t change.
But his tone did.
“What’s the cover?”
Joong glanced briefly at Phuwin.
Then back at Pond.
“You’re not going in as agents.”
“You’re going in as a couple.”
Dead silence.
Dunk almost choked on his drink.
“Oh—I need to see this.”
Pond’s jaw tightened.
Phuwin didn’t react.
At least, not outwardly.
Pond spoke flatly.
“There are other options.”
Joong’s voice was calm.
“No. There aren’t.”
Phuwin closed his tablet.
“I’ll do it.”
Pond turned to him.
“You’re agreeing too easily.”
Phuwin met his gaze.
“It’s a mission.”
Something unspoken passed between them.
Challenge.
Acceptance.
PRIVATE CLUB – NIGHT:-
Neon lights. Loud music. Shadows moving behind tinted glass.
The kind of place where secrets lived.
And died.
Inside the car
Phuwin adjusted his jacket.
Different look.
Sharper. Softer.
Dangerously convincing.
Pond glanced at him.
For a moment—
He forgot to speak.
Phuwin noticed.
“What?”
Pond looked away quickly.
“Stay close.”
Phuwin smirked faintly.
“That’s the cover, isn’t it?”
Pond leaned slightly closer.
Lowered his voice.
“Don’t joke inside.”
Phuwin’s reply was soft.
“I never joke when it matters.”
Inside the club...
Music pulsed.
Lights flickered.
Eyes watched.
Always watching.
Dunk’s voice came through softly.
“Intercoms are live. We’ve got you.”
Joong added—
“Stay sharp.”
Pond placed a hand lightly on Phuwin’s back.
Guiding.
Possessive.
Natural.
Phuwin didn’t pull away.
They approached the bar
A man behind the counter studied them.
Too carefully.
“New here?” the man asked.
Pond answered smoothly.
“Passing through.”
The man’s eyes shifted to Phuwin.
“And him?”
Pond’s grip tightened slightly.
“Mine.”
A pause.
The word hung there.
Unexpected.
Real.
Phuwin felt it.
But didn’t show it.
He leaned slightly closer to Pond.
Playing along.
Perfectly.
“Problem?” Phuwin asked calmly.
The man smiled.
“No. Just curious.”
Dunk whispered in...
“That guy’s flagged. Possible contact.”
Phuwin subtly tapped Pond’s wrist.
Signal.
Pond nodded almost invisibly.
Suddenly—
A loud crash.
Lights flickered.
Music stopped.
Screams.
Joong’s voice cut in...
“You’re blown. Get out—NOW.”
Too late.
Men moved toward them.
Not customers.
Not staff.
Targets.
Pond’s voice dropped.
“Stay behind me.”
Phuwin’s reply—
“No.”
They stood side by side.
Not just partners.
Not just cover.
Something more dangerous.
First attacker lunged.
Pond reacted instantly—swift, controlled, brutal.
Phuwin grabbed a nearby glass bottle—
Struck the second attacker without hesitation.
Pond glanced at him.
Surprised.
Impressed.
Phuwin didn’t look back.
“Focus.”
Fight. Chaos. Movement.
Dunk: “Exit blocked!”
Joong: “Back corridor—left side!”
Pond grabbed Phuwin’s hand—
This time not for cover.
For real.
“Run.”
They ran.
Through shadows.
Through danger.
Together.
Back alley
They burst out.
Breathing hard.
Alive.
Silence. Heavy. Close.
Pond didn’t let go immediately.
Phuwin noticed.
But he didn’t pull away.
Finally—
Pond released him.
“You handled yourself.”
Phuwin raised an eyebrow.
“You sound surprised.”
Pond shook his head slightly.
“Reconsidering.”
A small pause.
Phuwin spoke softly—
“Good.”
From across the street—
A figure watched.
Hidden.
Still.
Phone raised.
Recording.
He whispered, “Target confirmed…”
