Chapter Four: Rain, Revelation, and a Reluctant Shoulder

The next few weeks were a blur of the usual cafe bustle, punctuated by the occasional, infuriatingly charming, run-ins with **Kael**. He seemed to appear out of nowhere, sometimes at her apartment building, sometimes even outside the cafe, always with a teasing remark ready. Anya, in turn, found herself paradoxically both annoyed by his arrogance and secretly thrilled by their playful banter. Their arguments had become a strange, exhilarating dance.

One evening, as Anya was closing up the cafe, Julian walked by with a girl, her arm entwined with his. He looked different now, older, perhaps a bit more cynical, but still undeniably handsome. He didn't even notice Anya. A sharp pang went through Anya's chest, a mix of old longing and new disillusionment. The lingering dream of Julian, her cool, serious school crush, shattered in that instant. He was just a memory, a past she needed to let go of.

A deep sadness settled over her as she rode her scooter home. The city lights blurred through a sudden mist in her eyes. The air grew heavy, and then, the first fat drops began to fall. And then, the deluge. Rain lashed down, relentless and cold.

Anya's breath hitched. The drumming on her helmet became a suffocating roar, echoing the terrifying sounds of that long-ago night. The world spun, colors blurring into a terrifying green and gray. She saw the splintered window, felt the desperate push, heard the last, gassing sigh. Her scooter wobbled dangerously, her hands gripping the handlebars, trembling uncontrollably. She needed to run. She needed to escape. But from what? From the rain? From the memory?

Suddenly, a powerful bike pulled up beside her, its headlights cutting through the downpour. **Kael**. He dismounted quickly, his face etched with immediate concern. "Anya! Are you alright?!" he yelled over the storm, seeing her wide, panicked eyes and trembling hands.

Anya could only shake her head, gasping for air, tears mixing with the rain on her face. The words "Go! Run!" whispered in her mind, a frantic, desperate plea from a forgotten voice. Her scooter slid on the wet road, and she nearly toppled.

Before she could fall, Kael was there, his strong arms wrapping around her, pulling her close. He held her tightly, shielding her from the relentless downpour, his own jacket getting soaked. "Hey, hey, it's okay," he murmured, his voice surprisingly gentle, a stark contrast to his usual teasing tone. "You're safe. I've got you."

Anya clung to him, burying her face in his chest, the sound of the rain muffled by his presence. His warmth was a sudden, unexpected comfort, a secure anchor in her terrifying storm. She felt the steady beat of his heart against her ear, a grounding rhythm amidst the chaos in her mind. The fear didn't vanish entirely, but it receded, pushed back by the unexpected solace of his embrace.

When her trembling finally subsided, Kael gently pulled back, his hands still on her shoulders, his piercing eyes searching hers. The usual spark of annoyance was gone, replaced by a deep, unwavering concern. In that moment, Anya saw past the handsome face and the arrogant smirk, seeing only the genuine care that shone in his eyes. He wasn't the irritating biker; he was a silent guardian, a soft haven. A quiet, undeniable warmth blossomed in her chest, a new kind of comfort she hadn't known she was missing.

He led her to a nearby cafe, the rain still pouring outside. Over steaming cups of coffee, he gently prodded. "What happened out there, Anya? You looked... terrified. You kept murmuring 'run'."

Anya hugged her mug, the warmth seeping into her hands. "I don't know," she admitted, her voice small. "Whenever it rains like that... I just feel this overwhelming urge to run. And I hear a voice, someone telling me to run. I don't remember anything specific, but it feels... awful." She looked up at him, a flicker of fear still in her eyes. "It's like a bad dream I can't quite remember."

Kael’s expression was thoughtful, a hint of curiosity entering his gaze. He didn't push further, just nodded slowly. "I see," he said, his voice soft. He mentally filed away her words, a new resolve forming within him. He would find out what truly happened to her, without her ever knowing. He felt a deep, protective instinct stir within him for this vibrant, quirky woman who held a forgotten trauma within her.
