Introducing himself wasn't that hard. Everyone seemed to stare at him and take every single word he said as though they were being controlled by a siren song and he was the siren. Frida had chased someone out of their own seat just so she could seat on the table next to his. Aurelio looked at the chair on his table beside him. There was a brown leather bag hanging from it. He wondered if Frida had suddenly got a conscience and decided not to take the seat of someone who wasn't even in class.
"Finally got a change of heart?"
He asked. Frida seemed to have already guessed what he meant
"The girl who owns that seat's a tough one as well and I'm not in the mood for a fight"She replied, relaxing into her seat
"Wow!"
Jason exaggeratedly exclaimed, smiling.
"Someone who actually intimidates Frida?"
Suddenly someone burst into the classroom
"Sorry. I got lost... Again"
The girl said. Blonde hair, white shirt, grey jeans. It was Laura! Aurelio hadn't expected to remember her name. He knew that she was going to the same school but he thought she looked a grade lower when he first saw her. Laura turned to look at him and was clearly as stunned to see him as he was to see her.
Aurelio could tell eyes weren't on him anymore. This girl seemed to have made a name for herself, just like Frida though he wasn't sure if it was as intimidating. As Laura walked towards him he felt a hand tap him on the back.
"Hey man, wanna switch seats"
The guy behind him offered, a concerned look on his face. That's when it hit Aurelio. The bag on the seat next to him was the same bag he saw Laura carrying that morning
"Great!"
He thought
"Just my luck"
But even then, Aurelio remembered that this was an opportunity to find out more about Laura. He'd felt her aura. Similar to his family but still a slight difference.
Laura sat down next to Aurelio and the guy at the back immediately recoiled his hand away. Laura stared at him as well as he stared at her. He was sure this girl was Umbra. Suddenly he felt his eyes spark and quickly looked in front, trying his best to avoid eye contact. Laura stared at him for a few more seconds and laughed a little before bringing out her notebook. After class was over Aurelio guessed that Laura would question him about his eyes but she just ignored him and went on to her next class. Frida tapped Aurelio on the shoulder, a curious look in her eyes
"You know Laura?"
Frida asked as if she were interrogating him. Aurelio replied
"No. Do you?"
"Everyone knows her. This is her 5th school. She was able to get in because her older brother has influence as well as her grades being exceptionally good. I haven't really talked to her much since she only started attending last 2 days ago"
Aurelio nodded. He'd gotten little but good information about Laura but he needed more.
After classes, break came afterwards. He wasn't really hungry so he found a lonely place to stay. An abandoned shed a few metres away from the school building but still in school premises. He was sitting on a bench which surprisingly wasn't dirty for something that'd clearly been in the shed for a long time. He was just about to plug his earpiece to his phone when the door swung open and in came Laura. She glared down at him as if she was pissed of that he was in the shed. It dawned on Aurelio that maybe Laura had already found this place. She sat down next to him on the bench and smiled at him, her angry expression fading. He was too stunned to look away and his eyes sparked, blue, tiny crackles of lightning. He quickly looked away, expecting Laura to get freaked out and run out of the shed as many people did in the past.
"You know you can use lens right?"
Laura said, smiling warmly.
"It nullifies the glow and reduces the chances of those tiny sparks or blazes that happen ever so often"
Aurelio almost thought he misheard. He turned to look at Laura trying to muster up confidence.
"You're an Umbra aren't you"
Laura took out her brown eyelense. Her left eye was glowing red, tiny sparks of red flames sparked from her eye
"Marcus was right"
Laura said, a smile and curious look in her eyes
"This new school won't be so bad after all or at least with you in it"
