THE DREAM
Chapter 5: The Truth Behind the Shadows
written by Kingson Das
The morning after the incident felt unreal.
News spread like wildfire across the city.
Every channel. Every headline.
“Mass Shooting at KK Mall.”
“Armed Attack Leaves Dozens Injured.”
“Three Suspects Identified — Linked to International Crime.”
Images flooded the screens.
Blurry CCTV captures.
Grainy photos.
Faces caught mid-action.
Aniket.
Farhan.
Rohit.
The city now knew their names.
Inside a heavily guarded police station, the atmosphere was tense.
Officers moved quickly, voices low but urgent. Papers shuffled, phones rang, and screens displayed footage from the mall.
At the center of it all stood ACP Ashish.
Calm.
Focused.
But behind his eyes—anger.
Beside him was Michael, a senior investigator brought in due to the international connection of the case.
Ashish stared at the screen showing the three suspects.
“Who are they?” he asked quietly.
Michael didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he opened a thick file and placed it on the table.
“You’re not dealing with amateurs,” he said.
Ashish looked at him.
Michael continued—
“These three… they’ve done this before.”
The Vegas Connection
Michael flipped the file open.
Inside were photographs.
Vintage cars.
Auction houses.
Security layouts.
And finally—
A picture of four men.
Aniket. Farhan. Rohit.
And a fourth man.
Victor.
“This,” Michael said, pointing at the image, “was the team.”
Ashish leaned closer.
Michael continued—
“Two years ago, Las Vegas. A high-profile vintage car auction. Security was tight—armed guards, surveillance, controlled access.”
He paused.
“And yet… they walked in, took everything, and disappeared without a trace.”
Ashish frowned. “How?”
Michael’s expression hardened.
“Planning.”
Flashback: Las Vegas — Two Years Ago
The night sky above Las Vegas glowed with neon lights.
Inside a heavily secured auction house, rare cars were lined up—machines worth millions.
Security guards patrolled the area.
Cameras watched every angle.
Everything was under control.
Or so they thought.
In a dark corner of the building, Victor sat with a laptop.
His fingers moved rapidly across the keyboard.
“Systems are tight,” he muttered. “But not tight enough.”
A line of code executed.
Another.
Then—
“Got it.”
Across the building, lights flickered.
Then went out.
Darkness.
Complete.
“Go,” Aniket’s voice came through the comms.
Inside the building, chaos began.
Guards shouted.
Flashlights flickered on.
But it was already too late.
Farhan moved first—fast, precise—heading straight toward the vehicles.
Rohit stood guard near the entrance, his presence alone enough to keep anyone from getting too close.
Aniket walked calmly through the darkness, directing everything.
“No unnecessary noise,” he said.
“Five minutes. That’s all we have.”
Victor monitored everything from his position.
“Cameras down. Backup system delayed. You’re clear.”
Within minutes, engines roared to life.
One by one, the vintage cars were moved.
No panic.
No mistakes.
Perfect execution.
And then—
They were gone.
Back to Present
Ashish leaned back slowly.
“Impressive,” he admitted.
Michael nodded. “That’s not the word I’d use. Dangerous is better.”
Ashish’s gaze sharpened.
“What went wrong?”
Michael closed the file halfway.
“Victor.”
Victor’s Fall
“Months later,” Michael continued, “we tracked unusual activity. Someone tried to access a secured network using similar patterns.”
Ashish raised an eyebrow.
“Victor?”
Michael nodded.
“He got careless. Or maybe… overconfident.”
Flashback: Victor’s Arrest
A small apartment.
Dim lights.
Screens everywhere.
Victor sat alone, focused on his system.
He didn’t notice the movement outside.
Didn’t hear the footsteps.
Until—
BANG!
The door burst open.
“POLICE! HANDS UP!”
Victor froze.
Too late.
He was dragged out, his systems seized, his world collapsing in seconds.
Back to Present
“Victor was the only one we caught,” Michael said.
“The others disappeared. Completely off the radar.”
Ashish crossed his arms.
“And now they’re back.”
Michael nodded.
“And this time… they’re not just stealing cars.”
The Present Threat
Ashish walked toward the board, staring at the images again.
“They walked into a terrorist situation,” he said slowly.
“Fought trained attackers… and survived.”
Michael added, “Not just survived. They took control.”
Ashish turned.
“That’s not coincidence.”
Silence filled the room.
Both men were thinking the same thing.
“This was planned,” Ashish said.
Michael didn’t disagree.
New Information
A radio crackled.
“Sir, we’ve got movement.”
Ashish grabbed the walkie-talkie.
“Go ahead.”
“Three suspects spotted near a hospital. One appears injured. Likely Rohit.”
Ashish’s eyes narrowed.
“They’re still in the city.”
Michael stepped forward. “Then this is our chance.”
Ashish spoke into the radio—
“All units, listen carefully. The suspects are highly dangerous. Do not engage recklessly. Track them. Surround them. We end this today.”
The Chase Begins
Outside, police vehicles roared to life.
Sirens pierced the air.
The hunt had begun.
Inside the Getaway Car
The black Mustang sped through the streets.
Aniket gripped the wheel tightly, his focus absolute.
Farhan sat beside him, watching the mirrors.
“They’re behind us,” he said.
Rohit, in the backseat, was pale.
His breathing was uneven.
“Faster…” he muttered weakly.
Aniket didn’t respond.
He pressed harder on the accelerator.
The engine roared louder.
“They’re closing in,” Farhan said.
“I know,” Aniket replied calmly.
The Trap
Ahead, flashing lights appeared.
Police vehicles.
Blocking the road.
Aniket slowed slightly.
Farhan exhaled.
“We’re trapped.”
Silence.
Then—
Aniket spoke.
“Get ready.”
The Surrender
The car stopped.
Doors opened slowly.
One by one, they stepped out.
Hands raised.
Weapons aimed at them from every direction.
“Get on your knees!” Ashish shouted.
They complied.
For the first time—
They weren’t in control.
End of Chapter
As handcuffs clicked into place…
One thing became clear—
This wasn’t the end.
It was only the beginning of something much bigger.
