Episode 4: The Players

Darkness.

But this time… it wasn’t empty.

Aarav could feel it.

Something was there.

Close.

Too close.

His breathing became shallow.

“Who’s there…?” he whispered.

No answer.

Only that cold presence.

Standing right beside him.

Not touching.

But almost.

Then

his phone lit up.

The only light in the darkness.

Round 3 initiated.

Aarav stared at the screen.

“I just finished a round…”

No response.

Only another line appeared.

You are not alone anymore.

Aarav’s heart dropped.

“Not alone…?”

Before he could think further

the darkness shifted.

Like something moving inside it.

Then

light.

Sudden.

Blinding.

Aarav shut his eyes tightly.

When he opened them

he wasn’t in his room anymore.

A large hall.

Cold.

Silent.

Metal walls.

Dim lights flickering above.

Aarav looked around slowly.

“This place…”

His voice echoed.

But he wasn’t alone.

Someone stood a few steps ahead.

A girl.

Long hair.

Sharp eyes.

Calm.

Too calm.

She was already looking at him.

Like she had been waiting.

Aarav stepped back slightly.

“Who are you?”

The girl didn’t react immediately.

She just studied him.

Then she spoke.

“Riya.”

Aarav frowned.

“Riya… what is this place?”

Before she could answer

another voice came from the side.

“Took you long enough.”

Aarav turned quickly.

A boy leaned against the wall.

Arms crossed.

Relaxed posture.

But his eyes…

were alert.

Watching everything.

“Kabir,” he said.

Aarav looked confused.

“You both know what’s happening?”

Kabir gave a slight smirk.

“Enough to stay alive.”

Aarav’s heart started racing again.

“So this is real… all of it?”

Riya answered this time.

“Yes.”

Simple.

Cold.

Clear.

Aarav shook his head.

“No… this doesn’t make sense…”

Then

a loud metallic sound echoed behind them.

All three turned.

A door slowly opened.

Another person walked in.

A man.

Older.

Maybe mid-20s.

His steps were slow.

Tired.

But his eyes…

they looked like he had seen too much.

He stopped a few steps away.

Looked at Aarav.

“New one…”

Aarav didn’t reply.

He couldn’t.

The man sighed.

“Great.”

Kabir straightened slightly.

“Still alive, Dev?”

The man gave a dry laugh.

“Unfortunately.”

Riya didn’t react.

Aarav looked at all of them.

“You all know each other?”

Dev shook his head.

“No.”

“We just haven’t died yet.”

Silence.

Aarav felt a chill.

“How many people are in this game?”

Kabir looked around the room.

“Enough.”

Riya added quietly.

“And not for long.”

Aarav swallowed.

Before he could ask more

all the lights flickered.

Violently.

The air became heavy again.

That same presence returned.

Watching.

Then

four screens appeared in front of them.

Floating.

Each one glowing.

Aarav stepped back.

“No…”

The white mask appeared.

AOL.

The room fell completely silent.

Then

a voice.

Distorted.

Calm.

Controlling.

“Welcome back.”

Aarav clenched his fists.

“What do you want from us?!”

No reply.

Instead

text appeared.

Round 3: Collective Game

Kabir’s expression changed slightly.

“That’s new.”

Riya’s eyes narrowed.

“Not good.”

Dev exhaled slowly.

“Means we’re linked.”

Aarav looked at them.

“What does that mean?”

The next line appeared.

You will play together.

Aarav’s heart sank.

“Together…?”

Another line followed.

One mistake.

All suffer.

Silence filled the hall.

Heavy.

Dangerous.

Aarav shook his head.

“No… no this is insane…”

Kabir looked at him sharply.

“Control yourself.”

Riya added.

“Panic kills faster than the game.”

Dev looked at the screen.

“Focus on rules.”

More text appeared.

Survive the next phase.

Time limit applies.

Failure will be punished.

Aarav felt his hands shaking again.

“What kind of punishment…?”

No answer.

Only a countdown.

00:30…

Kabir looked at everyone.

“Stay alert.”

Riya nodded.

“Observe everything.”

Dev stepped slightly forward.

“And don’t trust what you see.”

Aarav looked at him.

“What does that mean?”

Dev didn’t answer.

00:15…

The ground beneath them vibrated slightly.

Aarav lost balance for a moment.

“What’s happening now?!”

00:10…

The walls started shifting.

Moving.

Changing shape.

Aarav’s heartbeat increased.

“This place is changing…”

00:05…

The lights dimmed further.

00:03…

Kabir stepped ahead.

“Stay close.”

00:02…

Riya moved beside him.

00:01…

Aarav swallowed.

00:00

Everything went black again.

For a moment

nothing existed.

Then

light returned.

But the hall was gone.

They were standing in a long corridor.

Endless.

Doors on both sides.

Numbered.

Cold.

Silent.

Aarav looked around slowly.

“This…”

His voice trembled.

“This isn’t normal…”

Kabir stepped forward slightly.

“Maze structure.”

Riya observed the doors carefully.

“No… more like selection system.”

Dev leaned against the wall.

“Same thing. Different outcome.”

A screen appeared again.

Floating in front of them.

Choose the correct path.

Aarav frowned.

“Correct based on what?!”

No reply.

Only another line.

You have 10 minutes.

Choose wrong.

Penalty will be applied.

Aarav’s heart started racing.

“Penalty again…”

Kabir looked at the doors.

Numbers everywhere.

No clear pattern.

Riya walked slowly along the corridor.

Her eyes scanning everything.

“There has to be a clue.”

Dev stayed behind.

Watching silently.

Aarav stood frozen.

“This is too much…”

Kabir turned to him.

“Listen.”

Aarav looked at him.

“You want to survive?”

Aarav nodded slowly.

“Then stop thinking like this is a dream.”

Silence.

Riya suddenly stopped.

“Wait.”

Everyone looked at her.

“What?” Kabir asked.

She pointed at the doors.

“The numbers.”

Aarav stepped closer.

“They’re just numbers…”

Riya shook her head.

“No.”

Kabir narrowed his eyes.

“…they repeat.”

Dev smirked slightly.

“Of course they do.”

Aarav looked confused.

“What does that mean?”

Kabir thought for a second.

“Pattern.”

Riya nodded.

“Or trap.”

Aarav felt his chest tighten.

“So we’re just guessing?”

Dev pushed himself off the wall.

“That’s the game.”

The timer appeared again.

09:12…

Time was running.

Fast.

Kabir looked at the group.

“We decide together.”

Riya placed her hand on one door.

“This one.”

Aarav stepped back slightly.

“Wait… what if it’s wrong?”

Riya looked at him.

“Then we learn.”

Aarav’s heart dropped.

“That’s not how I want to learn…”

Kabir looked at the timer.

“No time.”

Dev sighed.

“Make the call.”

Silence.

Heavy.

Aarav looked at the door.

Then at the others.

Then back at the door.

Fear rising again.

Because this time

he wasn’t alone.

Which meant

his mistake…

wouldn’t just kill him.
