Dear First Love
A cool breeze gently marked the beginning of a new day. The scent of fresh earth from last nights rain drifted through the air, carried by the wind, until it finally reached a fifteen-year-old girl.
Her name was Thazin.
She had a fair, clean face with soft black eyebrows framing her expressive eyes. Her lips were neither too thin nor too full. She wasnt extremely beautiful, but she had a quiet charm that made people look twice.
Mom, have you seen my pencils? she asked softly.
Her friend Kin called out from a distance,
Thazin! Are you there?
Im coming! she replied, pretending to sound annoyed, though it was just playful teasing between them.
Kin was one of her closest friends, slightly younger than her by a few months.
Today is your first day at tuition. We have to go early, Kin reminded her.
Alright, Im coming, Thazin answered with a light, playful tone.
That morning, on their way to tuition, Kin suddenly spoke with a smile.
Hey, do you know something?
What is it? Thazin replied bluntly.
I have a new boyfriend.
Thazin laughed immediately.
How many months will this one last?
This time its serious. Ive found true love, Kin insisted.
True love? Thazin laughed again. Find a better excuse, playground girl. Love doesnt exist like that.
She smiled faintly as she continued,
Theres no such thing as love. Education is more important. And for me love will never exist.
Neither of them knew that those words would one day come back to her.
At the tuition center, months passed.
Thazin had been studying there for almost five months now. She had made a few friends, but she still hadnt properly seen the Grade 11 and Grade 12 students she often heard about.
One day, their teacher walked in.
I have an announcement, she said. There will be no class tomorrow.
Is the tuition closed? the students asked.
No, the teacher smiled. Tomorrow is my birthday. I will treat you all. There will also be karaoke. Each class will prepare and sell different foods.
The students became excited.
Grade 11 will make noodles, Grade 12 will prepare drinks and Grade 12 will also perform a violin piece.
At that moment, the word violin caught everyones attention.
Including Thazin.
The next day came with excitement.
The tuition center was filled with noise, laughter, and preparation. Thazin wore a soft yellow dress and helped her friends prepare food. She was assigned to help with the fire, waving a fan back and forth while teasing her friend Kin.
When karaoke time started, all students gathered in one hall.
Thazin sat in the front row.
The teacher performed a song first. Her voice wasnt professional, but her rhythm was perfect.
Then suddenly, she pointed to two students.
You two, come up and sing. You understand music, right?
The hall turned quiet.
Thazin turned around.
One of them looked familiarsomeone she had seen before in her tuition group.
The other boy, however
She didnt know him yet.
He had a calm face, average appearance, wearing glasses, and a quiet, studious expression. He looked like a bookworm.
The two boys reluctantly went up.
And then they sang.
Their voices were surprisingly good. The melody filled the room, capturing everyones attention.
Including Thazins.
For a moment, she thought,
So they can really sing.
She smiled softly and continued listening, feeling strangely happy.
Later, during the break, students scattered to buy food and drinks.
Thazin was helping prepare food when her friend Kin brought her a drink.
But Thazin was thirsty, so she went out with her friend Zarchi to buy something.
While she was there, something happened behind her.
A violin started playing.
A soft, emotional melody filled the air.
Thazin slowly turned around.
And there he was.
The boy from Grade 12.
The same boy she had only glimpsed before.
He was playing the violin.
His face looked calm almost peaceful, like time itself had slowed down around him.
Thazin stood still.
She didnt even realize she was staring.
For a brief moment, everything felt quiet except the music.
Then suddenly
Someone called her back. Something was wrong at the food stall.
She had to leave.
But as she walked away, the violin sound still followed her in her mind.
🍀 Some melodies are sweet
But they dont last forever. 🍀
