The Revenge: No Longer the Backup

The Revenge: No Longer the Backup

Chapter 1: The Rainy Evening

Some stories begin with love.

Some begin with loss.

And some… begin with both.

This is the story of Aarohi—a girl who grew up learning that life does not always give second chances… but it always gives a choice.

A choice to break.

Or a choice to rise.

Born into a world that took more from her than it ever gave, Aarohi lost her parents before she could truly understand what it meant to belong. Left in the care of her grandmother—her Daadi, her strength, her entire world—she grew up surrounded not by abundance, but by sacrifice, silent struggles, and unwavering love.

In a small house filled with dreams stitched together by hope, Aarohi learned to fight life’s battles quietly. She learned to smile through pain, to dream beyond limitations, and to believe in something greater than her circumstances.

Rain tapped softly against the old window panes of a modest house tucked in a quiet lane.

The evening carried a gentle stillness, broken only by the rhythmic sound of falling droplets and the occasional rustle of leaves swaying in the wind. Outside, the world looked blurred—washed in shades of grey and silver. But inside that small house, a different story unfolded.

A warm yellow light glowed softly in the corner of the room.

Near it sat a young girl.

Her fingers moved carefully over a piece of fabric, guiding it beneath the needle of an old sewing machine. The machine hummed steadily, almost like a lullaby—familiar, comforting, constant.

This was Aarohi’s world.

Simple. Quiet. Yet filled with dreams stitched silently into every thread she touched.

She paused for a moment, lifting her gaze toward the rain-kissed window. Tiny droplets slid down the glass, merging and disappearing—just like moments in life. Her dark, expressive eyes followed them absentmindedly, lost in thoughts far deeper than her age.

A soft sigh escaped her lips.

Not of sadness… but of longing.

Behind her, the faint clinking of steel utensils echoed from the small kitchen.

“Aarohi…” a gentle, aged voice called out.

Aarohi turned instantly, her face softening.

“Yes, Daadi?”

Her grandmother stood near the doorway, draped in a simple cotton saree. Her silver hair was tied neatly in a bun, and her tired eyes carried stories of years that had not been kind. Yet, despite the exhaustion life had carved into her face, there was warmth in her smile—a warmth that had kept Aarohi alive through her darkest days.

“Come eat something, beta,” Daadi said softly.

“You’ve been sitting there for too long.”

Aarohi smiled faintly. “Just two minutes.”

Daadi walked closer, her slow steps careful but steady. She stood behind Aarohi and placed her wrinkled hand gently on her head, caressing her hair with a tenderness that spoke louder than words.

“You work too much,” she murmured.

Aarohi leaned slightly into that touch—seeking comfort she never asked for but always needed.

“I have to, Daadi,” she replied quietly. “One day… all of this will change.”

Daadi’s eyes softened.

“They already have,” she said. “Because you didn’t give up.”

Aarohi looked up at her, her eyes shining faintly under the soft light.

For a moment, neither spoke.

The rain outside grew heavier, as if the sky itself had stories to tell.

Daadi smiled gently and whispered the words she had said countless times before—

“You will become something big.”

Aarohi’s lips curved into a small smile.

This time, she didn’t doubt it.

Because somewhere deep inside her fragile yet determined heart…

she believed it too.

The sewing machine fell silent.

But the dreams?

They had only just begun.
