Chapter 5 — Morning, As Usual (Almost)

The dining room in the Hale villa was already in use when Mira walked in.

Again.

She stopped at the door.

“Why are you always here before me?” she asked Elena.

Elena didn’t look up. “I’m not competing with you.”

Mira sat down anyway. “Feels like you are.”

Adrian, already at the table, glanced up briefly.

“She wakes up early,” he said.

Mira pointed at him. “You’re not helping.”

Adrian shrugged. “I wasn’t trying to.”

Elena finally took a sip of water.

“You woke up late,” she said casually.

Mira blinked. “That’s rude.”

“It’s fact you should wake up early as well mira” Elena replied.

Mira leaned back. “ oh please, i need my beauty sleep” she then care for her face and pointed at her dark circle. which have eye bags deeper than ocean

Elena nodded once. “Yes, yes”

Adrian added quietly, “ you almost look like a ghost”

Mira turned to him. “stop it uncle you always do that to me ”

Adrian didn’t answer immediately.

“Sleep as you want then i don't care ” he said finally.

Mira sighed.

Elena took a bite of breakfast.

“It’s good,” she said after a moment.

Mira instantly brightened. “Okay, that’s the only opinion I care about today.”

Adrian watched Elena briefly.

“You always eat like you’re in a hurry,” he said.

Elena glanced at him. “I’m not.”

Mira leaned forward. “You kind of are though.”

Elena didn’t deny it.

A faint sound came from upstairs.

Mira didn’t even look up.

“Lucas is still doing his dramatic absence thing,” she said.

Elena took another bite. “He’s allowed.”

Mira raised an eyebrow. “That sounded supportive.”

Elena replied, “It wasn’t.”

Adrian added, “i don't think he sleep at all at night.”

Mira sighed. “You both sound like his schedule is your problem.”

Elena said simply, “It isn’t.”

But she paused half a second longer before continuing eating.

Mira noticed that and smirked slightly. “Sure.”

Adrian leaned back.

“You sometime look like robot” he said to Elena while playing with his chopsticks and had a slight curve in his moutch and eyes that are searchingfor flaws.

Elena looked at him. “robots don't eat food.” she smile while saying this

Mira laughed. “That’s the weakest defense I’ve heard all morning.”

Elena nodded. “I’m conserving energy.”

Mira pointed at her. “That’s just laziness with confidence.”

Elena replied calmly. “It works.”

Adrian exhaled lightly. “Unfortunately.”

Mira grinned. “I like this version of mornings better.”

Elena glanced at her. “You always like things that aren’t your responsibility.”

Mira paused. “That was unnecessarily accurate.”

A faint sound upstairs again—closer this time.

Mira looked up finally. “Okay, he’s definitely alive.”

Elena nodded once. “Good.”
