Chapter 1: The Mysterious Cabin

That day, the sun warmed the world with an unusual generosity. In the endless blue expanse of the sky, there wasn’t a single blemish—not a cloud, not even a trace of dust. This calmness felt like the eerie silence that comes before a storm.

At the end of the street, the old wooden door of one of the houses creaked open, and the protagonist appeared at the threshold. Squinting against the sunlight, he paused for a moment and scanned his surroundings. Down below, on a grassy hill, his closest friends—James, Benjamin, and Harper—were engaged in a heated discussion. Their shouts and laughter rippled through the otherwise quiet air of the village.

He climbed up the hill and joined them. For a while, they chatted and laughed about ordinary things. But the conversation suddenly took a different turn after James spoke in an unusually hushed tone, as if even the trees around them might be listening:

“Have you guys heard? Near here, at the end of the old farmer’s road… a cursed cabin has appeared…” James’s eyes gleamed.

Benjamin frowned and shook his head.

“Come on, James! Not your old scary stories again? People always make up these kinds of tales out of boredom. Let’s talk about football instead.”

“This isn’t a story this time!” James insisted. “My grandfather told me about it yesterday. Strange things used to happen there. Someone disappeared without a trace, and another person came back… unable to speak properly!”

Harper added anxiously,

“I heard about it at school too. They say anyone who gets close to that cabin hears strange whispers. And at night, a cold, bluish light is said to come from it—some people have even seen it with their own eyes!”

The protagonist listened silently, but inside him, a strange excitement and curiosity began to grow. For him, this wasn’t just a scary story—it was a chance to escape the monotony of everyday life.

“Where is this cabin? Does it really exist?” he asked. The determination in his voice surprised his friends.

“Hey, don’t be stupid!” Benjamin tried to stop him. “It’s just superstition. Let’s play a game before sunset instead. Some physical activity will clear your mind.”

But James still explained the way:

“Why would you even go looking for it? It’s dangerous and abandoned. You know the old farmer’s road? It’s somewhere out there, deep in the bushes. They say even birds don’t sing there…”

The protagonist didn’t wait any longer. Ignoring his friends’ calls to stop, he set off toward the mysterious place. As he moved farther away from the houses, the scenery began to change. The once-clear sky turned shades of dark orange and purple at the horizon, and the sunlight fell like blood-red streaks.

After walking for quite some time through the fields, he reached the edge of the forest. Suddenly, the air grew cold and damp. A dead silence settled over the surroundings. No insects chirped, no breeze whispered—it was as if nature itself feared entering that place.

At last, he arrived at the cabin.

Its appearance was truly spine-chilling: the wooden planks were rotting and falling apart, the walls leaned to one side, and the windows resembled empty eye sockets staring into darkness. A sharp smell of mold and decaying wood drifted from inside, awakening dreadful sensations. It felt as if thousands of cold ants crawled across his body, yet his curiosity overpowered his fear.

Carefully, he stepped inside.

There were only two rooms. The first must have been a bedroom, as an old bed stood in the center, buried under layers of dust. Positioned directly in front of the window, it faced a small cabinet that held a mysterious flower pot. The plant inside had long since withered, turning into dark soil, but one could imagine how beautiful it once had been.

In another corner stood an ancient bookshelf leaning against the wall. Of the dozens of books it once held, only two remained. Their covers bore strange inscriptions, written in a faded, blood-like color.

In the center of the room lay a red-patterned carpet. Strangely, while everything else was covered in dust, the carpet looked unusually clean and vivid—as if someone had just cleaned it moments ago. This only heightened the protagonist’s alertness.

He moved into the second room. It appeared to be a dining area. In the middle stood a table surrounded by four chairs. A thick layer of dust covered the table, making it impossible to tell when it had last been used. In the corner stood an old storage cabinet, perhaps used as a primitive refrigerator. It seemed that whoever lived here had either stayed only temporarily or had completely withdrawn from society.

The protagonist stepped outside. The sun had already set beyond the horizon, but the mystery of the cabin was not yet over. Walking around to the back, he noticed an open entrance leading underground. The door creaked slightly, and the darkness below seemed to call out to him.

“Why am I going down there? This is madness…” he thought. But at the same time, a voice inside him whispered: “What if what you’ve been searching for is right there?”

He paused for a moment and glanced back at the distant village lights—his safe and familiar life. Then, taking a deep breath, he stepped down into the unknown.

With each step, the stairs creaked ominously, as if preparing to reveal the secrets hidden beneath the earth…
