In the silence of the underworld, a decision had already been made.
Aorta stood unmoving upon her throne, her gaze fixed on nothing and everything at once. Around her, shadows coiled and whispered, as though eager to carry out her will. Beside her, Sernna watched with quiet anticipation, his expression calm but burning beneath the surface.
“He will not break easily,” Aorta said at last.
Sernna’s lips curved faintly. “Then we make sure what we take from him is something he cannot endure losing.”
Aorta turned her gaze toward him. “You are certain of your choice?”
“There is only one,” Sernna replied. “The one thing he protects without hesitation. The one thing that makes him forget himself.”
Aorta said nothing.
But her silence was permission.
“Then go,” she said.
And Sernna did.
Above, in the endless glow of the heavens, something far different was unfolding.
Merga had returned.
Her presence swept through the celestial palace like warmth after a long winter. Light seemed to soften around her, colors deepening as though the world itself welcomed her back. When Sienna saw her, something within him lifted instantly—something that had been heavy since his visit to the underworld.
“Merga,” he breathed, stepping forward.
She smiled, radiant and familiar. “Did you miss me?”
Sienna didn’t hesitate. “More than I thought I could.”
She laughed softly, closing the distance between them and taking his hands. “Then I suppose I should not leave again so soon.”
“Don’t,” he said, half joking, half serious.
Her eyes softened. “I won’t. Not for a while.”
For the first time in what felt like ages, Sienna felt whole again.
“Come,” Merga said suddenly, a playful spark in her eyes. “Let’s go somewhere beautiful.”
Sienna tilted his head slightly. “Somewhere more beautiful than here?”
She grinned. “You’ll see.”
Moments later, they stood at the entrance of a realm unlike any other—the Gardens of Elias.
The air there was alive.
Every flower glowed with its own unique light, petals shifting in colors unseen in any other realm. Vines curled and danced as if guided by music, and the scent of blossoms carried a quiet enchantment that calmed even the most restless soul.
At the heart of it all stood Elias, the Goddess of Flowers.
She turned as they approached, her presence as gentle as the garden she commanded. “Sienna. Merga. You honor my garden.”
Merga smiled warmly. “It’s been too long, Elias.”
Sienna inclined his head respectfully. “Your realm is as breathtaking as ever.”
Elias laughed softly. “It reflects what is brought into it.”
Merga glanced at Sienna, her smile deepening slightly.
“Walk with me,” she said, linking her arm with his.
They wandered through the garden together, their steps slow and unhurried. For a while, there was nothing but quiet laughter and shared moments, the world around them blooming brighter with every passing second.
But beauty, as it often does, masked what was coming.
Far beyond the garden’s radiant boundaries, shadows stirred.
Sernna stood at the edge of the realm, unseen, his form blending seamlessly with the darkness that did not belong there. His eyes were fixed on them—on Sienna, on Merga.
On the bond he intended to break.
“Let us see,” he murmured, “what light does when it is pushed too far.”
With a flick of his hand, the air distorted.
From the depths of chaos, something answered.
It emerged violently.
A creature born not of nature, but of pure destruction—its form twisted, its presence suffocating. Darkness bled from its body, corrupting the ground beneath it as it stepped into the garden.
The flowers nearest to it withered instantly.
Elias gasped. “No—this cannot—”
The demon roared.
The sound shattered the calm, ripping through the harmony of the garden like a blade.
Sienna turned immediately, his light flaring as he stepped in front of Merga. “Stay back.”
But the demon did not hesitate.
It lunged.
Merga reacted instantly, her aura igniting in a brilliant glow of rose and gold. “Not a chance,” she said, her voice steady.
Elias raised her hands, the garden itself responding—vines shooting upward, wrapping around the creature in an attempt to restrain it.
For a moment, it worked.
Then the demon tore through them.
Sienna stepped forward, his light intensifying as he raised his hand. A pulse of radiant energy collided with the creature, forcing it back—but not stopping it.
“It’s not natural,” he said sharply.
“I can feel that,” Merga replied, her power surging beside his.
Together, they moved as one.
Merga’s energy struck first, a wave of beauty and force that disoriented the creature. Sienna followed, his light cutting through the darkness like a blade of pure brilliance.
Elias joined them, summoning the very essence of her garden—roots, petals, life itself—to bind and weaken the intruder.
The battle was brief.
But fierce.
With a final surge of combined power, the demon let out a deafening scream before collapsing, its form unraveling into nothingness.
Silence fell.
The garden slowly began to recover, though the damage lingered like a scar.
Merga exhaled softly. “That was… unexpected.”
Elias shook her head. “No creature like that should exist here.”
But Sienna said nothing.
His light dimmed slightly—not from exhaustion, but from realization.
He knew.
Without a word, he stepped forward, his gaze lifting toward the sky.
“Sernna,” he called, his voice no longer soft.
It echoed.
Carried across realms.
“I know this was you.”
The air shifted.
The light flickered.
And then—
Darkness answered.
Sernna appeared, descending slowly from above, shadows curling around him like a crown. His expression was calm, almost amused.
“You called,” he said.
Sienna’s eyes burned—not with rage, but with something deeper.
“Why?” he asked.
Sernna glanced briefly at the place where the demon had fallen, then back at his brother.
“I wanted to see something,” he said simply.
“And now you have,” Sienna replied.
Sernna’s smile widened slightly.
“Not yet,” he said.
And in that moment, the garden felt far less safe than it had before.
