The city never truly slept.
Neon lights flickered across the wet streets of Seoul, reflecting like broken glass under the night sky. Somewhere in the distance, sirens echoed—but in the world Elliana had just stepped into, those sounds meant nothing.
Because this world didn’t follow the law.
It followed him.
Jeon Jungkook.
Elliana stood frozen at the entrance of the underground building, her fingers tightening around the strap of her bag. The air felt heavier here, like it was warning her to turn back before it was too late.
But she didn’t.
The doors slid open on their own.
And there he was.
Sitting in a dim-lit room surrounded by men in black suits, Jungkook didn’t even look up at first. His presence alone was enough to silence everyone. The faint glow from the table lamp carved shadows across his sharp features, making him look even more dangerous than the rumors said.
Cold. Powerful. Untouchable.
“Elliana,” one of the men muttered, stepping aside.
That’s when Jungkook finally lifted his gaze.
His eyes locked onto hers.
And everything stopped.
For a moment, Elliana forgot how to breathe. Not because he was kind—he wasn’t. Not because he looked safe—he didn’t.
But because he looked like someone who had already decided her fate.
“You’re late,” Jungkook said calmly.
His voice was low. Controlled. Dangerous in its quietness.
“I didn’t even agree to come,” Elliana replied, forcing her voice not to shake.
A faint smirk appeared on his lips.
“That’s not how this works.”
Silence fell again.
One of the men behind him shifted nervously, but Jungkook didn’t even glance at them. His attention stayed locked on her like she was the only thing in the room that mattered.
Or the only thing he was allowed to break.
“You’re connected to the Lee family,” he said slowly. “Which means now… you’re connected to me.”
Elliana’s heart dropped.
“I’m not part of your world.”
Jungkook stood up.
The sound of his chair scraping echoed like a warning shot.
“You already are.”
He walked closer, slow and steady, until there was only a small space between them. Close enough for her to notice the faint scent of smoke and cologne clinging to him.
Close enough to run—but not escape.
“You have something they want,” he continued. “And now they’ll come for you.”
Elliana swallowed hard. “And you think protecting me makes you a hero?”
That made him pause.
Then, for the first time, his expression shifted—just slightly. Not soft. Not kind.
Something more dangerous.
“No,” he said quietly. “I’m not a hero.”
A beat passed.
“I’m the reason they won’t get to you first.”
The lights flickered above them.
Somewhere outside, tires screeched against the road.
Jungkook tilted his head slightly, listening.
“They’re already here.”
Elliana’s breath caught.
Before she could react, his hand suddenly gripped her wrist—not painfully, but firmly enough to pull her behind him in one swift motion.
The room erupted into tension.
Men reached for weapons.
But Jungkook didn’t move.
Instead, he leaned slightly toward her, voice low enough that only she could hear:
“Stay behind me… and don’t let go.”
And for reasons she couldn’t understand—
Elliana did.
