CONTROL

🎴 Episode 4: “Control”

Darkness.

Silence.

Endless.

Kaien floated in it.

No ground. No sky.

Just… nothing.

Then—

A sound.

A heartbeat.

Thump.

Kaien looked down.

Red cracks spread across his chest.

Glowing.

Alive.

Thump.

Thump.

“…So you finally noticed me.”

Kaien froze.

That voice.

The same one.

From the darkness—

Something moved.

A shape.

Humanoid.

But wrong.

It stepped closer.

And Kaien saw its face.

It was him.

Same eyes.

Same form.

But twisted.

Cracked.

Glowing red from within.

“…What are you…?” Kaien whispered.

The other smiled.

Slow.

Dangerous.

“…I’m you.”

The air grew heavier.

“…No,” Kaien said, stepping back.

“You’re not—”

“—the part you’re afraid of?” it interrupted.

Silence.

“…The part that wants more.”

Kaien clenched his fists.

“…You’re the reason I lose control.”

The other version laughed softly.

“…Wrong.”

It stepped closer.

“…I’m the reason you’re alive.”

The world around them began to distort.

Visions flashing—

Hollows.

Destruction.

Kaien absorbing them.

Over and over.

“…You felt it,” the other said.

“…That power.”

Kaien’s breathing grew heavier.

“…Don’t pretend you didn’t like it.”

“…I didn’t,” Kaien snapped.

The other tilted its head.

“…Then why did you go faster?”

A pause.

“…Why didn’t you stop?”

Kaien had no answer.

The other smiled wider.

“…Exactly.”

It raised its hand—

And the darkness cracked open.

“Soon,” it said,

“…you won’t be able to tell the difference between us.”

Everything shattered.

🏫 Binder Academy – Medical Wing

Kaien’s eyes snapped open.

Bright lights.

Clean room.

“…He’s awake,” a voice said.

Airi stood nearby.

Arms crossed—but her expression softer than usual.

“…How long…?” Kaien muttered.

“…A day,” she said.

“You collapsed after the mission.”

Kaien sat up slowly.

His head still heavy.

“…Did we win?”

Airi nodded.

“…Barely.”

Silence.

“…You scared us,” she added quietly.

Kaien looked at his hands.

“…I scared myself.”

🧑‍🏫 Training Hall

Later that day—

Kaien stood alone in the arena.

Master Veyl in front of him.

“…You met it,” Veyl said.

Kaien looked up.

“…You knew?”

“…Everyone with a Vein has one.”

A pause.

“…Yours is different.”

Kaien frowned.

“…It said it was me.”

Veyl nodded.

“…It is.”

Silence.

“…Then how do I stop it?”

Veyl’s eyes sharpened.

“…You don’t.”

Kaien froze.

“…What?”

“…You control it,” Veyl said.

“…Or it controls you.”

He stepped back.

“…We start now.”

⚔️ Control Training

The arena sealed.

Energy barriers rising.

“…You will activate your Vein,” Veyl said.

“…And hold it.”

Kaien hesitated.

“…Last time I—”

“…You won’t improve by avoiding it.”

Silence.

Kaien closed his eyes.

Focus.

He felt it.

Deep inside.

That heat.

That pull.

“…Okay…”

He let it out.

Red energy surged.

Veins glowing.

His breathing changed.

“…Hold it,” Veyl said.

Seconds passed.

Then—

The voice returned.

Kaien’s eyes flickered.

“…No…”

The energy spiked.

“…Stop it!” Airi shouted from outside.

Kaien gritted his teeth.

“…I said… NO!”

The energy trembled.

For a moment—

It stabilized.

Then—

Exploded.

The barrier cracked.

Kaien lost control again—

Charging forward—

Straight at Veyl.

But—

Veyl didn’t move.

At the last second—

He struck.

Precise.

Controlled.

Kaien was knocked back instantly.

Energy disrupted.

The red glow faded.

Kaien hit the ground.

Hard.

Silence.

“…Too slow,” Veyl said calmly.

Kaien coughed.

“…You said control it…”

“…And you tried to overpower it,” Veyl replied.

He stepped closer.

“…That thing doesn’t respond to force.”

A pause.

“…It responds to acceptance.”

Kaien looked up.

“…Acceptance…?”

Veyl nodded.

“…You don’t fight your nature.”

His gaze sharpened.

“…You understand it.”

🌆 Evening – Rooftop

Kaien stood alone again.

Same place as before.

The city lights flickered below.

“…Control, huh…”

He looked at his hand.

“…If that thing is me…”

A pause.

“…Then I need to know it.”

The wind picked up.

For the first time—

He didn’t feel fear.

Just determination.

Behind him—

A presence appeared.

Ren.

“…You’re still alive,” Ren said casually.

Kaien smirked slightly.

“…Disappointed?”

Ren shrugged.

“…No.”

A pause.

“…Interested.”

He stepped closer.

“…Fight me.”

Kaien blinked.

“…Now?”

Ren grinned.

“…Right now.”

Kaien exhaled slowly.

Then—

He stepped forward.

“…Fine.”

Their eyes locked.

Tension rising.

Energy building.

And for the first time—

Kaien didn’t run from it.

He faced it.
