It’s Watching You

Chapter 5: It’s Watching You

Lena didn’t reply to the message.

She couldn’t.

Her fingers hovered over the screen, but her mind refused to move. The words burned into her thoughts.

You shouldn’t have stopped.

Her chest tightened.

“…Stopped what?” she whispered, even though she already knew the answer.

The door.

Her stomach twisted.

Slowly, she locked her phone and set it face down on the desk, like not seeing it would make it disappear.

It didn’t.

Nothing was disappearing anymore.

That was the problem.

Everything was staying.

The signs.

The whispers.

The feeling.

That she wasn’t alone.

Lena forced herself out of bed and walked toward the mirror.

Carefully.

Like it might react again.

But it didn’t.

Her reflection stood there, still and quiet, matching her movements perfectly this time.

Normal.

Too normal.

“…Say something,” Lena whispered.

Nothing.

Her reflection blinked.

Just like her.

She let out a shaky breath.

“Okay… okay, that’s good.”

But even as she said it, her skin prickled.

Because the silence had returned.

That same suffocating quiet.

Like the world was holding its breath again.

Lena turned slowly.

Her room looked the same.

Desk.

Bed.

Closet.

Door.

Everything exactly where it should be.

And yet—

Something felt different.

Her gaze locked onto her bedroom door.

It was closed.

She didn’t remember closing it.

“…Did I?”

Her voice sounded too loud.

Too sharp.

She stepped closer.

Each movement slow.

Careful.

Her hand hovered over the handle.

Cold.

Just like before.

Lena froze.

“No…”

Her heart began to race.

Not again.

Not here.

She pulled her hand back.

“I’m not opening it.”

Silence.

Then—

A soft sound.

From the other side.

Scratch.

Her breath hitched.

“No…”

Scratch.

Closer this time.

Like something was right against the door.

Waiting.

Lena stumbled back.

“I’m not doing this again!”

The scratching stopped.

Instantly.

Like whatever was there had heard her.

Understood her.

And was… thinking.

Her pulse pounded in her ears.

“…Go away,” she whispered.

Nothing.

No response.

No sound.

Just silence.

Then—

Her phone buzzed.

Lena flinched violently.

For a moment, she didn’t move.

Didn’t breathe.

Didn’t think.

Then slowly—

She turned.

The phone lit up on her desk.

Another message.

Same unknown number.

Her stomach dropped.

She didn’t want to check it.

But she did.

Because she had to.

Because not knowing felt worse.

Her fingers trembled as she picked it up.

The screen glowed.

Another five words.

It’s behind the door.

Lena’s blood ran cold.

Her head snapped toward it.

“No…”

The handle twitched.

Just slightly.

Her breath caught.

“I didn’t touch it…”

The handle moved again.

Turning.

Slow.

Deliberate.

Like something on the other side was trying to open it.

“Stop…” Lena whispered.

The door creaked.

A thin gap appeared.

Darkness spilling through.

Lena stumbled back, her heart slamming against her ribs.

“No, no, no—”

The gap widened.

Slowly.

Too slowly.

Like it was enjoying this.

Like it knew she was watching.

Waiting.

The darkness inside wasn’t normal.

It wasn’t just lack of light.

It felt… thick.

Alive.

Lena shook her head, tears stinging her eyes.

“I’m not playing this game!”

The door stopped moving.

Half open now.

The darkness inside shifted.

And then—

A shape.

Barely visible.

Standing just beyond the frame.

Too tall.

Too still.

Lena’s throat tightened.

“…Who’s there?”

No answer.

Of course.

There was never an answer.

Just signs.

Just warnings.

The shape didn’t move.

Didn’t step forward.

Just stood there.

Watching.

Lena’s arm burned.

She cried out, grabbing it.

“No—please—stop—”

The symbol glowed.

Brighter than before.

Hot.

Painful.

The words beneath it twisted.

Changing.

Again.

Lena forced herself to look.

Even though she didn’t want to.

Even though she already knew—

It wouldn’t be good.

The letters settled.

She read them.

And her breath shattered.

LET IT IN

“No.”

Her voice broke.

“I’m not doing that.”

The figure tilted its head.

Slowly.

Unnaturally.

Just like the reflection had.

Lena’s vision blurred.

“You don’t get to come in,” she said, louder now. “You don’t get to choose!”

Silence.

Then—

A whisper.

Not from the door.

Not from the room.

From inside her head.

“You already chose.”

Her heart skipped.

“I didn’t!”

“You saw the sign.”

“That doesn’t mean—”

“You followed it.”

Lena froze.

Her breath caught.

“…No.”

“You came closer.”

Her stomach dropped.

“I stopped.”

The whisper softened.

Almost kind.

“But not for long.”

The figure moved.

Just a step.

Forward.

Out of the darkness.

Lena screamed.

“No!”

The door slammed shut.

Hard.

The sound echoed through the room.

Then—

Silence.

Complete.

The pressure lifted.

The air felt normal again.

Lena stood frozen, shaking, staring at the closed door.

“…It’s gone.”

No movement.

No sound.

Nothing.

She collapsed onto her knees, her body trembling.

“I’m not going to open it,” she whispered.

“I don’t care what it says. I don’t care what happens. I’m not opening it.”

Her phone buzzed again.

She didn’t move.

“I’m not checking it.”

Another buzz.

“I’m not—”

Another.

And another.

And another.

The sound filled the room.

Relentless.

Lena squeezed her eyes shut.

“Stop…”

The buzzing stopped.

Instantly.

Slowly—

She opened her eyes.

The room was quiet.

Still.

Safe.

Maybe.

Her phone sat on the desk.

Silent now.

Waiting.

Lena stared at it.

Her heart pounded.

“…Just one look.”

Her voice was barely a whisper.

She stood.

Walked over.

Picked it up.

The screen lit up.

Dozens of messages.

All from the same number.

All the same.

Over.

And over.

And over.

IT SEES YOU

IT SEES YOU

IT SEES YOU

Lena’s hands shook.

Her vision blurred.

“No…”

The screen flickered.

The messages changed.

All at once.

Replacing themselves.

With something new.

Something worse.

A single sentence.

TURN AROUND

Lena froze.

Her breath stopped.

Her entire body locked in place.

Slowly.

Painfully.

Her eyes lifted from the screen.

Toward the mirror.

Her reflection stood there.

Still.

Watching.

Smiling.

And behind her—

In the reflection—

The door was open.

Wide.

And something was standing inside.

Reaching.

Lena didn’t move.

Didn’t breathe.

Didn’t turn.

Because she understood now.

It wasn’t just behind the door.

It wasn’t just in the hallway.

It wasn’t just in the signs.

It was here.

Closer than ever.

And no matter what she did—

No matter where she went—

It would always find her.

Because now—

It didn’t need the door anymore.
