CHAPTER 4

Author’s POV

As he walked away from the floor toward his cabin, the heavy silence he left behind slowly began to fade.

Only then did Ishita let out the breath she had been holding.

She sank into her chair, placing a hand over her chest as if trying to calm her racing heart.

Her mind kept replaying his words—

“Some employees don’t know how to respect their boss…”

And the way he had looked directly at her while saying it.

There was no doubt.

That comment was meant for her.

“Why did he say that while looking at me?” she muttered under her breath, frowning slightly.

A wave of panic rose inside her.

Does he know? Did he really hear me yesterday?

She pressed her lips together and closed her eyes for a second, silently praying.

“Please, God… don’t let him fire me,” she whispered.

Today felt unusually difficult already.

And to make things worse, Harpal wasn’t there.

Her best friend had gone to her hometown to visit her parents, leaving Ishita completely alone to deal with this situation.

“Great… just great,” Ishita sighed, resting her chin on her hand.

She had no one to share her panic with.

No one to distract her.

No one to tell her that everything would be okay.

Taking a deep breath, she tried to push all those thoughts aside and focused on her work. The clicking sound of keyboards and the low office chatter slowly brought her back to reality.

Minutes turned into an hour.

For a brief moment, she almost forgot about the morning incident.

Almost.

Just then, someone approached her desk.

“Ishita,” a voice called.

She looked up to see one of her colleagues standing there, holding a thick bundle of files.

Her brows furrowed slightly.

“Yes?” she asked.

Without much expression, he placed the heavy stack of files on her desk.

“Sir asked you to complete all of this by EOD,” he said casually.

For a second, Ishita just stared at the files.

Then at him.

Then back at the files again.

Her expression slowly turned into disbelief.

Is he serious?

She looked at the employee again, giving him a clear “are you serious right now?” look.

“This… all of this?” she asked, pointing at the stack.

He simply nodded. “His instructions.”

And just like that, he walked away.

Ishita leaned back in her chair, staring at the mountain of work in front of her.

A slow realization dawned on her.

“This is not a coincidence…” she murmured.

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

“He knows.”

There was no other explanation.

This was his way of punishing her—without saying it directly.

She let out a dry laugh, shaking her head.

“Great, Ishita. Just great,” she muttered sarcastically.

For a moment, she considered giving up.

But then, she straightened in her chair.

“No,” she said softly but firmly.

“I’m not going to lose my job over this.”

Taking a deep breath, she pulled the first file toward her and opened it.

“If he wants to test me… fine,” she whispered.

“I’ll complete everything.”

But deep inside, she knew—

This was just the beginning.
