CHEMPAKA BIRU: THE LONG ROAD HOME (PART 4)

When the Road Is No Longer a Road

The road vanished.

Not faded.

Not hidden by fog.

It was simply… gone.

For one impossible second—

there was nothing in front of us.

No asphalt.

No trees.

No horizon.

Just a dark, endless drop.

The car jerked violently.

The engine roared.

And instinct took over.

“Hold on.”

His voice was no longer calm.

It was sharp.

Commanding.

My fingers gripped the seat as the car tilted forward—

just enough to feel gravity pulling us into that empty space.

Then—

he turned the wheel.

Hard.

The car didn’t skid.

Didn’t slide.

Didn’t behave like it should.

It snapped back onto something invisible.

The road returned.

Like it had never disappeared.

But the air—

the air was no longer the same.

🌫️ THE VEIL IS THINNING

My heart pounded violently against my chest.

“What just happened…?”

He didn’t answer.

Not immediately.

Instead—

he slowed the car.

Not because of the road.

But because of something else.

“They’re pushing.”

My breath caught.

“Pushing what?”

His eyes scanned the darkness ahead.

“The boundary.”

The word felt heavy.

Like it carried something older than both of us.

👁️ BETWEEN WORLDS

The trees around us began to blur.

Not from speed.

From distortion.

For a brief moment—

I saw something else layered over the road.

A different path.

Narrower.

Darker.

Alive.

And for a second—

we were on that road.

Then it snapped back.

“I saw something,” I whispered.

“I know.”

“You’re not even surprised?”

He finally glanced at me.

And this time—

he didn’t look human.

Not fully.

Just for a second.

His eyes—

too deep.

Too old.

“You’re starting to see what’s underneath.”

💥 THE SECOND CONTACT

The radio crackled again.

Louder this time.

Sharper.

Then—

multiple voices.

Layered.

Whispering over each other.

“She opened…”

“She answered…”

“She belongs—”

“Stop.”

His voice cut through everything.

The sound distorted.

Twisted.

Then—

silence.

But it didn’t last.

Because something appeared again.

Not on the mountain this time.

On the road.

⚠️ BLOCKED PATH

A figure.

Standing still.

Right in front of the car.

Tall.

Unnatural.

Wrong.

The same presence.

But clearer.

Closer.

And this time—

it didn’t move away.

It waited.

The car slowed to a stop.

My breathing became shallow.

“Don’t tell me that’s—”

“I told you not to look too long.”

Too late.

Because the moment I focused—

it reacted.

🔥 DIRECT LINK

The world dropped again.

Not the road.

Not the car.

Me.

My vision snapped into darkness—

and I was back—

In front of the door.

But this time—

it wasn’t closed.

🌌 THE DOOR OPENS

A crack.

Small.

Breathing.

Light didn’t come out.

Darkness did.

Something inside shifted.

Closer than before.

Closer than it should be.

“You’re opening faster.”

My body trembled.

“I didn’t do anything—”

“You answered.”

The crack widened.

Hands.

Not human.

Not whole.

Reaching through.

💔 REALITY COLLISION

“Chembi!”

His voice pulled me back.

Hard.

Violently.

I gasped—

back in the car.

The figure was still there.

Closer now.

Too close.

And without thinking—

I grabbed his arm again.

But this time—

I felt it.

Not skin.

Not fully.

Something deeper.

Stronger.

Not human.

🔥 THE REVEAL (PARTIAL)

“Who are you…?”

My voice broke.

Silence.

Heavy.

Unavoidable.

Then—

he answered.

Not fully.

But enough.

“Not what you think.”

The figure in front of us moved.

One step forward.

The air cracked.

And his hand—

tightened over mine.

💥

His voice dropped.

Low.

Dangerous.

“If I let go… they’ll take you.”

The thing in front of the car—

smiled.

And for the first time—

it spoke clearly.

“You can’t keep her anymore.”

The car engine died.

Total silence.

Darkness closed in.

And his grip on my hand—

tightened.
