Chapter 2: Truths Between Them

The truth came quietly… but it hit hard.

Reyan.

Kael’s younger brother.

The same person Aira once loved.

She stood still as the realization settled in.

The face her mother had shown her before the wedding…

the man she was supposed to forget…

was his brother.

Her breath felt heavy.

So this was fate.

Cruel. Twisted.

Kael returned to the room after his shower, calm as ever.

“I have work,” he said simply—and left.

Just like that.

Hours passed.

The house felt too big. Too silent.

Aira walked into the bathroom, trying to clear her thoughts. When she came out, she had nothing to wear—

so she wore his white shirt, loose around her, paired with simple shorts.

It didn’t feel like hers.

Nothing did.

Late at night, the door opened.

Kael returned.

For a moment, his eyes paused on her.

Then—nothing.

Cold again.

“I loved your brother,” she said.

No hesitation.

“He rejected me… before this marriage. I didn’t know he was your brother until today.”

Her voice didn’t shake.

Not anymore.

For the first time—

Kael went silent.

A full minute passed.

No reaction. No words.

Just stillness.

Aira looked at him, calm but distant now.

“So… don’t expect anything from me either.”

Two truths.

Two walls.

Built in the same room.

That night—

they didn’t become closer.

They became strangers

bound by a marriage

neither of them truly wanted.

Then without a word, he turned… and walked out.

That night—

he didn’t come back.

Aira lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling, her thoughts refusing to rest.

In another part of the house, Kael stayed in the study room.

Distance.

Silence.

Walls between them.

From the hallway, Elena noticed everything.

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

This wasn’t how a marriage should begin.

And she didn’t like it.

Inside the room, Aira turned from side to side.

Sleep wouldn’t come.

Too many thoughts. Too many truths.

She forced her eyes shut—

and after hours of restlessness, she finally drifted into sleep.

Morning came quietly.

Aira slowly opened her eyes.

For a second, she forgot everything.

Then reality returned.

The sound of water stopped.

She turned slightly—

and froze.

Kael stepped out of the bathroom, fresh from the shower.

Aira quickly looked away, pretending she hadn’t noticed.

But he had.

“I know you’re awake,” he said calmly.

She sat up, avoiding his gaze.

“Mom asked for you,” he added.

“Go get ready and meet her.”

His tone was the same—distant, controlled.

As if nothing from last night mattered.

Aira nodded silently.

And in that moment, she understood—

this house wouldn’t give her time to feel.

Only time to adjust.

Aira came downstairs after getting ready.

Elena spoke to her briefly, her tone calm but observant—watching every reaction, every movement.

Aira answered politely, though her mind was elsewhere.

Later, when she returned to the room—

she stopped.

A bag was placed neatly on the bed.

Kael stood near the window.

“I went to your house,” he said without looking at her.

“Brought your things.”

Aira slowly walked closer.

Her clothes.

Her life… packed into a bag.

Kael finally turned to her.

“And one more thing,” he added, his voice calm but firm.

Aira looked at him.

“Don’t wear my clothes again.”

No anger.

No emotion.

Just a boundary.

Aira nodded silently.

She didn’t argue.

Didn’t question.

Because now she understood—

This wasn’t a relationship.

Not even close.

It was just two strangers,

living under the same roof…

with rules they didn’t choose.
