This reminded me of a childhood memory that has stayed with me ever since. When I was in 6th grade, my school held a mono acting competition. I gave it my all and came first. Then the competition format was changed, and once again, my performance was the best. My teacher even told me, "You did really well," but then added that I had already won first place many times and wanted someone else to experience it too. So even though I had earned first place, I was moved to second, and my classmate was awarded first instead. As a child, that really hurt. I wasn't upset that someone else won—I was hurt because my effort and performance weren't judged fairly. It's something I've never completely forgotten.
