No Escape from Him

OWNED BY THE RUTHLESS KING

Chapter 4

I can't sleep.

I've laid down and closed my eyes a few times, but every time I try to relax myself, everything just comes back into my mind—that gun, that blood, those voices, and most of all he was. It seems that no matter how tired I get, my brain just won't stop. I'm still wide awake even though my body is already heavy.

I sat up in bed, hugging myself as I stared at the floor. I don't even know what time it is anymore. There is also no light that tells if it's still night or morning. The whole room is silent—the kind where you can hear your own breathing, and every movement feels too loud.

“What am I going to do?” I whispered softly.

No one answered.

There's no one to answer.

I take a deep breath, trying to calm myself even though my chest feels like it's about to explode with nervousness. I can't stay here. I can't just sit around and wait for what happens to me.

I slowly got up and walked over to the door. I don't know what to expect—Maybe there was a guard, maybe someone had taken over—but when I reached for the doorknob and slowly turned it, a soft click echoed in the quiet room.

Tomorrow.

I frowned as I slowly opened it. I peered outside, barely breathing.

Nobody.

Only long hallways appeared to me, bright but without any movement whatsoever. Pure doorways on both sides, it seems like forever. Quietly. It's scary being so quiet.

Suddenly my heart beat faster.

It's that time.

If I have a chance to escape, it's now.

I walked out of the room, careful with my steps, almost on tiptoe just so as not to make a noise. I felt like every step of the way, someone would hear that I was immediately behind me—but nothing. No one is chasing. No screaming. Nothing holds back.

Please please I prayed softly as we walked. Even if you can just get out, it's a good idea

I don't even think about where to go. Anywhere just get away from it.

I saw the stairs at the end of the hallway and immediately went down, now in a bit of a hurry. My heart beat faster as I went down, it seemed like he could be heard even at a distance.

When I got to the bottom, I immediately saw a large door.

That's what I was going to do.

Main door.

I almost stopped in shock. I didn't think it would be that fast. It's just that easy. Just a few more steps and I'll be out.

My pace picked up even faster until I was almost running. I reached for the handle, it was cold in my hand, but I shivered even more as I held it.

This is it.

I can get out.

Escape now—

Going somewhere?

It felt like cold water was poured all over my body.

I stiffened in my stance.

I slowly turned around, and that's where I saw her—just standing behind me, quiet, but you could feel her presence immediately.

Dante.

I don't know when he came. I didn't hear his footsteps. I didn't feel anything. And that's what's even scarier.

I thought that at some point I swallowed, it was hard to speak. I can leave now

He just stared at me. No emotion, no anger, but it's even heavier than that. I can't seem to look for long, but I also can't help it.

He approached, slowly, as if in no hurry. But every step he takes seems to make me lose more strength. Until he stopped in front of me.

Did I give you permission? he asked coldly.

I bowed. I have nothing to say. As much as I wanted to defend myself, it felt like all my words were being lost in front of him.

You answer.

"No, I'm not going to answer that lightly.

Suddenly, he grabbed my arm. Tight, like he didn't want to let me go. I'm closing my eyes in pain.

Then why are you at the door?

I just want to go home soon...I almost whispered it.

Home? home he repeated, and there was a strange tone in his voice.

I couldn't answer right away. Because honestly, I don't even know if that's what I really want.

In an instant, I remembered the house—the shouting, the smell of alcohol, those nights when I was forced to hide in the room just so it wouldn't be noticed.

Am I really safe there?

On the other hand, Carlos Valez was furious as he knocked the bottle down on the table. The house is a mess, smells like alcohol, and it's obvious that he has been waiting for quite some time.

Where is that girl?! he shouted. He's gone all day!

‣Maybe it's just too late— ‖The neighbor said softly.

Late?! he shouted again. Someone's going to get him tomorrow! Big money!

There was no worry in his voice. Anger. Annoyance. I just feel like something he'd lose.

When he came home, he smiled. I won't forgive him.

I came back to reality when I heard Dante's voice again.

Is it really that safe? he asked, directly at me.

I was silent. I can't answer anything. Because even I, I don't know anymore.

Suddenly he pulls me away from the door, I step back becausewith the force of his pull.

“Listen carefully,” she said, her voice much cooler now. You don't leave unless I say so.

Please please please I whispered, almost crying. I can't stay here.

“Then you should—have stayed out of that building,” he answered immediately.

I'll be quiet. I have nothing left to defend.

He slowly let go of my arm, but he did not leave. He was just standing in front of me, watching, like he was waiting to see if I would fight back or give up.

"You follow my rules", he added in a lower voice.

I bowed. I'm so tired.

༊Because the moment you step out of this place without my permission ‧‧ He stops for a second, then looks at me again. You will not survive.

I'm closing my eyes.

I don't know if it was a threat or a warning.

But the way she said it, it sounded real.

And as I stood before her, it slowly dawned on me that even if I could get out of here, I still wasn't safe. Someone is still waiting for me outside—and it might be worse than him.
