After winter vacation ended, our class teacher decided to ruin my peace completely.
“We have a new student joining from today,” she announced one morning.
The entire classroom immediately became noisy.
A tall boy walked inside carrying books awkwardly while everyone stared curiously.
“Introduce yourself,” the teacher said.
“My name is Bibek.”
Simple.
Calm.
Normal.
At first, I didn’t think much about him.
Until our teacher looked directly at our desk.
“Bibek will sit with Mimi and Arone from now on.”
I froze.
Arone looked annoyed immediately.
And just like that, my peaceful bench-partner life ended.
Because now…
I had to sit in the middle.
“This is torture,” I whispered while moving my books.
“You’re dramatic,” Arone muttered beside me.
“You’re literally making that face right now.”
“I’m not making any face.”
Bibek looked between us awkwardly before laughing softly.
“You two fight a lot.”
“We do not,” both of us replied at the same time.
Silence.
Then Bibek started laughing harder.
Unfortunately, he turned out to be easy to talk to.
Too easy.
He was funny in a calm way and somehow matched my energy naturally. Within three days, we had already started sharing notes and making fun of boring classes together.
And every single day, Arone looked more irritated.
At first, it was small things.
Whenever Bibek borrowed my notes, Arone took them first.
Whenever Bibek made me laugh, Arone suddenly became very interested in his notebook.
And whenever the two of us talked too much during class—
“You’re both loud,” Arone interrupted one afternoon.
“We’re literally whispering,” I replied.
“You’re still loud.”
Bibek looked at him suspiciously.
“You sound jealous.”
“I’m not jealous.”
“Sure.”
Meanwhile, I stared down at my notebook to hide my smile.
The worst part was that Arone became strangely competitive afterward.
If Bibek bought me snacks from the cafeteria, suddenly Arone brought me milk tea the next morning.
If Bibek helped me with chemistry, Arone suddenly volunteered to teach me mathematics.
Which honestly felt terrifying.
One afternoon during lunch break, Bibek stole my juice and refused to return it.
“Give it back,” I complained.
“No.”
“I’ll actually fight you.”
“You’re too short to fight.”
Before I could reply, Arone suddenly grabbed the juice from Bibek’s hand and placed it back onto my desk.
“She said give it back.”
The table became silent for one second.
Bibek slowly looked between us.
Then a small smirk appeared on his face.
“Ohhh.”
“Shut up,” Arone muttered immediately.
I looked down quickly to hide my smile again.
Later that day during computer class, Bibek leaned toward me quietly.
“I think he likes you.”
I nearly dropped my mouse.
“What?”
“He looks like he wants to murder me every time you talk to me.”
“He does not.”
Bibek stared at me blankly.
“Mimi,” he whispered dramatically, “please open your eyes.”
I ignored him immediately after that.
But unfortunately…
his words stayed in my head for the rest of the day.
Because deep down, a small part of me had already started wondering the same thing.
