Crossing the Line

For several seconds, neither of them moved.

Mia could still feel Selena’s forehead resting gently against hers, warm and trembling slightly despite how calm she tried to appear. Outside, the storm raged louder, rain hitting the windows hard enough to shake them.

There is two girls playing volleyball there name are Kim and sam

But inside the apartment, everything felt still.

“Mia…” Selena whispered again.

This time, her voice sounded less certain.

Less controlled.

Mia slowly lifted her hand and touched Selena’s wrist carefully, giving her enough time to pull away if she wanted to.

She didn’t.

That alone gave Mia courage.

“You don’t have to keep stopping yourself,” Mia said softly.

Selena closed her eyes briefly, like the words hurt.

“You have no idea how hard I’m trying.”

“Then maybe stop trying for one second.”

The silence that followed felt dangerous.

Selena opened her eyes again, and whatever restraint she had left finally cracked.

She kissed Mia.

For a moment, the world disappeared completely.

The kiss was soft but emotional, filled with weeks of hidden feelings and unsaid words. Mia’s hands instinctively gripped Selena’s jacket while Selena held her carefully, almost like she was afraid Mia would disappear if she touched her too tightly.

Mia had imagined this so many times.

None of those fantasies came close to reality.

When Selena deepened the kiss slightly, Mia’s knees nearly gave out. Selena noticed immediately, pulling her closer with one arm around her waist to steady her.

“Mia,” she breathed against her lips.

The way Selena said her name made her heart ache.

They pulled apart only long enough to breathe before kissing again, slower this time. More honest.

No more pretending.

No more denial.

Just them.

Outside, thunder echoed through the city while dim emergency lights cast soft shadows across the apartment walls. Selena gently brushed her fingers through Mia’s hair, staring at her with an expression Mia had never seen before.

Not like a coach.

Not like a mentor.

Like someone completely in love.

That realization terrified Selena enough to finally step back.

“We should slow down,” she whispered, breathing unevenly.

Mia’s chest tightened slightly. “Do you regret it?”

Selena looked shocked by the question.

“No,” she answered immediately.

Too quickly to be a lie.

She sighed softly and ran a hand through her hair in frustration.

“That’s the problem.”

Mia stayed quiet.

Selena sat carefully on the edge of Mia’s bed, elbows resting on her knees while she tried to collect herself. Without the usual confidence she carried in public, she suddenly looked vulnerable.

Human.

“I spent months telling myself this was wrong,” Selena admitted quietly. “That eventually your feelings would fade and things would return to normal.”

Mia sat beside her.

“But mine didn’t,” Selena continued. “They only got worse.”

The honesty in her voice hurt and comforted Mia at the same time.

“You don’t always have to carry everything alone,” Mia whispered.

Selena laughed softly without humor. “That’s easy for you to say.”

“Why?”

“Because if this gets out…” Selena looked down at her hands. “People will think I took advantage of you.”

Mia frowned immediately. “That’s not true.”

“I know.” Selena’s voice weakened slightly. “But rumors don’t care about truth.”

For the first time, Mia fully understood how much fear Selena had been hiding behind all her distance and strictness.

This wasn’t only about feelings.

It was about careers.

Reputation.

Everything Selena had spent years building.

Mia gently touched her hand.

“We don’t have to figure everything out tonight.”

Selena looked at her quietly.

Then, after a long moment, she intertwined their fingers together.

The simple gesture felt strangely intimate.

“You make me reckless,” Selena murmured.

Mia smiled faintly. “You’re still terrifying, by the way.”

That finally made Selena laugh softly for real.

The tension between them eased slightly afterward. They stayed sitting together on the bed while the storm continued outside, talking quietly about random things for hours.

Basketball.

Childhood memories.

Favorite songs.

Dreams they never told anyone else.

At some point, Mia rested her head against Selena’s shoulder again.

And this time, Selena didn’t hesitate to wrap an arm gently around her.

Neither of them noticed when the storm finally ended.

Or when exhaustion slowly pulled them closer together.

Because somewhere between whispered conversations and tired smiles, they fell asleep beside each other for the very first time.
