Chapter 5 — Ice and Fire

Snow fell endlessly over Therians.

The capital stood beneath the night sky like a frozen giant, its enormous walls covered in silver frost while dragon riders patrolled high above the city. Torches burned along the streets below, their flames trembling beneath the freezing wind moving through the kingdom.

From the outside…

Therians looked invincible.

But hidden behind the walls of the Royal Palace, something far more dangerous than war had already begun.

Love.

Deep inside one of the palace towers, Prince Raian stood silently near a massive window overlooking the city below.

Cold air moved through the room around him.

Even without trying, frost slowly spread across the stone floor beneath his feet.

Raian’s presence alone felt unnatural.

Tall. Calm. Terrifying.

His silver-white hair reflected the moonlight while his piercing blue eyes remained fixed on the storm outside. Countless scars covered parts of his body despite his young age — proof that even among monsters, Raian stood above them all.

Level One Hundred.

The strongest human ever recorded.

The man destined to inherit Therians.

And perhaps…

The man the world feared most.

A soft knock suddenly echoed through the room.

Raian turned slowly.

The door opened.

And Princess Tania stepped inside.

Warm air seemed to enter the room with her.

Unlike Raian’s cold and overwhelming aura, Tania carried heat powerful enough to make the torches around the chamber burn brighter. Long crimson hair flowed behind her like living fire while golden eyes met Raian’s silently.

For several moments…

Neither of them spoke.

Because words were unnecessary.

In a world ruled by kingdoms and fear, they were the only place each other could breathe freely.

“You shouldn’t be here,” Raian finally said quietly.

Tania smiled faintly. “And yet you still opened the door.”

For the first time that night…

Raian smiled back.

A real smile.

Not the cold expression soldiers feared on the battlefield. Not the emotionless face nobles whispered about behind closed doors.

Just a man looking at the woman he loved.

Outside the palace walls, their kingdoms were supposed to hate each other.

Ice and Fire.

Two powers forbidden from ever becoming one.

But somewhere between war meetings, political alliances, and secret encounters…

They fell in love.

And neither of them regretted it.

Tania slowly walked toward him until only a few inches separated them.

“Your father suspects something,” she whispered.

Raian’s expression darkened slightly.

“So does yours.”

Silence filled the room again.

Because both of them already understood the truth.

If the kingdoms discovered their relationship…

Everything would burn.

Not just their reputations. Not just their families.

Entire kingdoms.

The Forbidden Law was absolute.

No exceptions. No mercy.

The world feared another demon child too much to allow forbidden bloodlines to exist again.

Yet despite knowing all of this…

Raian gently placed his forehead against Tania’s.

“I would destroy the world before letting them touch you,” he whispered.

Tania closed her eyes.

And for a moment…

The future no longer mattered.

But peace never lasted long inside royal bloodlines.

Far beneath the palace, deep inside the lower chambers of Therians, King Ragna stood beside an enormous frozen cavern hidden beneath the castle itself.

Chains thicker than tree trunks stretched across the darkness.

And beyond them…

Something massive breathed.

A deep growl echoed through the cavern, powerful enough to shake the ice walls themselves.

Then two glowing blue eyes slowly opened within the darkness.

The Blue Dragon.

The King of Ice Dragons.

The most feared creature in the world.

Its body alone was nearly the size of a mountain, covered in ancient blue scales sharp enough to cut steel. Frozen mist escaped from its mouth with every breath while enormous chains wrapped around parts of its body.

Most dragons could be controlled.

This one could not.

The Blue Dragon obeyed nobody except Raian.

And even that relationship resembled mutual respect more than obedience.

The dragon slowly lowered its massive head toward Ragna.

Then suddenly growled.

Aggressively.

Warningly.

Ragna narrowed his eyes.

“You sensed it too…”

The cavern trembled again.

Because dragons possessed instincts humans could never understand.

And the Blue Dragon felt something approaching.

Disaster.

Meanwhile, far beyond the frozen borders of Therians…

Inside the volcanic kingdom of Falarion…

Several royal guards kneeled before the Fire King while flames burned violently around the throne room.

“The princess has disappeared again,” one guard reported nervously.

The Fire King’s expression darkened instantly.

“Where?”

The guard hesitated.

Then answered quietly.

“Therians.”

The entire throne room fell silent.

Because everyone there understood exactly what that meant.

The Fire King slowly tightened his grip around the armrest of his throne until cracks spread through the burning stone itself.

“No…” he whispered.

Fear appeared in his eyes for the first time in years.

Not fear of war.

Not fear of death.

Fear of prophecy.

Far away beneath the frozen skies of Therians…

Raian gently held Tania’s hand while snow fell outside the palace windows.

Neither of them noticed the storm already beginning around them.

Or the fact that somewhere deep within the darkness of history…

The world itself seemed to be repeating.
