Elena’s apartment chimed at 8:59 AM. On the final stroke of nine, a heavy, synchronized knock echoed through the door.
Elena pulled down the hem of her dark green knit dress — modest enough to look like a normal date, but flexible enough if she needed to sprint or fight. Hidden in the lining of her trench coat was a tracking device; strapped to her inner thigh was a ceramic blade. No metal. She knew Marcus’s security would be tight.
.....
She opened the door. Standing there wasn't a bodyguard, but Marcus himself.
He wore a tailored charcoal suit that accentuated his broad shoulders, his dark eyes scanning her from head to toe with slow, deliberate approval. The scent of rain and expensive cologne immediately invaded her small apartment....
"Punctual," Marcus murmured, offering a hand. "I like that in a woman, princess."
Elena ignored his hand, stepping past him into the hallway and locking her door. "Let’s get this over with, Mr. Volkov. I have a busy schedule"...
A dangerous, amused smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "We’ll see about that."
In the Date :-
.....
Instead of a typical restaurant or something romantic around the sea…
Marcus’s sleek black limousine took them up into the winding hills overlooking the city, stopping at a private, heavily guarded shooting range. It was a blatant power move.
He wanted to intimidate her.
As they stepped onto the private deck, a row of high - caliber firearms lay on the table.
....
"Since you have such a fiery kick," Marcus said, leaning against the railing and gesturing to the weapons, "I figured you’d prefer something with a bit more bite than a coffee shop. Show me what you can do, Elena."
.....
Elena’s mind raced. He’s testing me. If she shot with the perfect, lethal precision of an SSS-rank agent, her cover would be blown. But if she missed entirely, a man like Marcus would know she was faking.
She picked up a standard 9 mm pistol, intentionally altering her grip to look slightly amateur. She aimed at the paper target fifty yards away and fired three shots.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
Two hit the outer rings. One hit the shoulder. Decent for a civilian, but messy.
"Not bad," Marcus whispered, suddenly appearing right behind her. The heat radiating from his body made the hairs on her arms stand up. "But your stance is wrong."
Before she could pull away, his large hands clamped over hers on the grip of the gun. His chest pressed against her back, trapping her. Elena froze, her heart hammering against her ribs....
"Relax your shoulders," Marcus murmured in her ear, his breath hot against her skin. "Look at the target like you already own it. Like you want to destroy it."
He guided her hands, aiming perfectly at the bullseye. He squeezed her finger, forcing her to pull the trigger.
BANG.
A perfect center shot.
......
Elena ripped herself out of his grip, her eyes flashing with genuine anger. " Don't ever do this again.... I don’t like being controlled."
"I’m not controlling you, princess," Marcus said, his eyes darkening into that terrifyingly soft expression she would come to fear later on. "I’m teaching you how to survive."
The Crack in the Armor
.....
An hour later,
they sat at a secluded table on the range's veranda. A waiter served them black coffee. Elena knew this was her chance to start probing for information.....then she started asking -
"You told me yesterday you wanted to 'break' me," hmm i did hear that .... Elena said, leaning forward, bracing her chin on her hand to play the part of a curious woman. "Why? A man with your wealth could have anyone. Why bother with someone who kicked you in the groin?"
Marcus chuckled, taking a slow sip of his coffee. "Because everyone in this city bows to me Elena. Presidents, judges, police chiefs. They all smile, they all lie, and they all want something from me. But you?" He leaned in, his gaze locking onto hers with suffocating intensity. "You looked at me with pure, unadulterated defiance. You didn't care about the name Volkov."
He reached across the table, his fingers brushing the bracelet on her wrist—the micro-camera. Elena’s blood ran cold. Did he know?
What did you just say...it's just a bracelet...she said
"You're a mystery," Marcus murmured, his thumb tracing the metal links of the bracelet. "And I have a habit of solving mysteries. So, what is your answer, princess? Will you stay by my side, or do I have to keep chasing you?"
Elena forced her racing heart to calm down. She pulled her hand back gently, offering a sharp, mysterious smile of her own.
"I'll tell you what, Marcus," she said, using his first name for the first time. "I'll let you take me out again. But under one condition."
Marcus raised an eyebrow, clearly thrilled by her boldness. "Name it."
"I get to choose the location next time. And no bodyguards."
.....
It was a risky move, but she needed him isolated to get the evidence Commander Vance required.
Marcus stared at her for a long, silent moment. The tension in the air was thick enough to cut with a knife. Finally, a genuine, amused laugh escaped his lips.
"No guards? You really are fearless," Marcus said, his eyes glittering with an obsession that was growing by the second. "Very well. It's a deal. Tomorrow night. Don't disappoint me, Elena."
...
"Then can I ask you something More about you" ? ....she asks
'Anything princess"...he said
"why are people afraid so much from you....even the President, police...why"?....she asked with a normal innocent face
"Hmm.... because they can't win against me"...he answered... without looking away from her eyes...
"ahem....i think it's already too late...we should go...
"just as you say princess, but don't forget our next date....you have to come to my home to pick me up" he said
"pick you up....ok....here is my number....send me your address....i will pick you up"...she said ....
after half an hour later
.....
As the limousine drove her back to her apartment later that afternoon, Elena looked out the window at the rainy city skyline. Her hands were trembling.
She had successfully lured the Mafia into her trap. But as she remembered the intense, burning heat of his grip on her hands, a terrifying thought crossed her mind.
Who is really the predator here... and who is the prey?
