Seeing all this, a quiet happiness bloomed inside Nandhini’s heart.
Feeling that she shouldn’t become a disturbance between them anymore, she softly said,
“I’ll go check on Dad…” and quietly left the room.
Silence once again filled the space.
After a few hesitant moments, Madhavi finally turned toward Madhavan.
“Sorry…” she said softly while trying to get up from the bed.
But the moment she slightly lost her balance, Madhavan immediately rushed toward her.
“It’s okay… slowly,” he said gently as he helped her sit properly.
Once she was comfortable, Madhavan smiled lightly.
“To be honest… the mistake was mine,” he said.
Madhavi looked at him in surprise.
“I shouldn’t have suddenly come and stood behind you like that. I shouldn’t have spoken so unexpectedly and frightened you. So… you should be the one forgiving me,” he said with genuine sincerity.
Hearing his words, Madhavi could hardly believe it.
From everything Akila had said, she had imagined him to be an arrogant, prideful rich man.
But the way he spoke… and the way he behaved… was completely the opposite.
Lost in those thoughts, Madhavi quietly looked at him.
And in that gaze…
for the first time, there was no hatred.
Only a new curiosity was slowly beginning to bloom within her.
Madhavi continued to watch him quietly.
Noticing her gaze, Madhavan asked playfully,
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
Caught off guard by the unexpected question, Madhavi was startled.
She couldn’t answer immediately.
When Madhavan repeated the question, she hesitantly replied,
“I was just thinking about what happened at the office... I never imagined I’d receive such a welcome on the very first day.”
Hearing that, Madhavan laughed.
“That’s true,” he said with a smile and turned to leave.
But before he could take even a single step—
“Sir...”
Madhavi’s voice stopped him.
He turned back and looked at her.
“Sir, is there any problem? Why are you leaving? At least say something before you go... otherwise, I don’t know why, but I feel strange,” she said.
Her words surprised Madhavan for a moment.
But the person most surprised was Madhavi herself.
She had never spoken like this to anyone before.
Even though she was close to Naren, she had never stopped someone from leaving or spoken with such concern.
And now, she was speaking this way to a man she had met only a few hours ago.
The thought of him walking away filled her with an unexpected sense of uneasiness.
She couldn’t understand why she felt that way.
Madhavan looked at her and smiled gently.
“Don’t worry. I’m not running away and leaving you behind,” he said.
Then he held up the receipt in his hand and added,
“I’m just going to pay the room bill. That’s all. I’ll be back in a little while.”
The moment she heard the words “I’ll be back,” something inside Madhavi relaxed.
Realizing her reaction, she quickly composed herself and sat quietly.
But as Madhavan walked out of the room...
her eyes continued to follow him until even the sound of his footsteps disappeared.
