Maybe In Another Life
I woke up in a completely different house. This isn't my house... it's my dream house!
A massive bedroom, a shower, and a bathroom all to myself inside my room? One drawer was bursting with skincare products, and the other was full of makeup. I ran around the room and jumped onto the bed, inhaling the scent of the fresh bedsheets before running inside the bathroom to look around. On the walls, I saw a dozen picture frames filled with photos of my family and me. I was smiling and looked so genuinely happy in those pictures. I’ve never felt this alive. Am I dreaming?
I slapped and pinched my arm. "It hurts!! Hell yeah, it hurts!!!" I shouted at the top of my lungs.
I sat down in front of my vanity mirror and stared at my reflection. I was still Yera, but was I in a different lifetime? I was still me, except now, I actually loved my life! How did this happen? Wait... wait...
“Let me think first—” I muttered, holding my face in my hands, until a boy around my age suddenly walked into my room.
“Who are you?" I asked. I didn't know him at all. I glanced at the pictures on my nightstand and spotted him in a few of them, but I had absolutely no clue who he was in my real, messed-up life. But wait, who's this fine young man? I look at him from head to toe and he's exactly my type! but we need to keep our cool.
"You don't know me? I'm the most stunning guy you've ever met," he said with a grin. He looked amazing, but the moment he opened his mouth, he just sounded stupid.
"Who, you? You look like a dying goat gasping for air," I smirked.
He looked offended. Well, not gonna lie, he was handsome. He had thick eyebrows, pale skin, a perfect nose, and naturally pinkish lips. I guessed he was about 5'9". But I wasn't about to admit any of that to him because he was clearly full of himself. What did he even have going for him other than his face?
"Woah, easy there... this goat used to be your crush! You seriously don't remember?" He laughed.
"The acidity to call yourself ‘my crush’ Eww, you? Piss off! You're completely not my type, Mr. Thick Eyebrows!"
"Pfft... those are your favorite feature of mine. I guess you still like me." He leaned toward me, playfully flicked my forehead, and smirked.
"Oohh! Do you finally like Yera, Sean?" Steven's voice suddenly piped up.
I knew Steven; he was my childhood friend. But who was this other guy he called Sean? I had never seen him before in my life.
"Shut up, Steven. Brush your teeth first." Sean said, before turning back to smile at me. "Let's go to school. We'll wait for you in the living room.”
I looked around and noticed a uniform hanging neatly in my closet. I was a Senior High School student—Grade 12, to be exact.
On the surface, nothing seemed drastically different from my harsh real life. I still had the same family, the same friends, and the same neighborhood. But we were in a completely different house. We were rich now. My mom and I were finally living well in this lifetime. This is the life I've always imagined. I can't believe it became true, this is just absurd, but I love it!
Still, I couldn't remember how I got here, why I ended up here, or who that guy was. Who was Sean? He didn't exist in my real life. So who is he?
Could he be the reason I was here?
Just who exactly are you, Mr. Angry Bird Eyebrows?
