This morning felt different for Sage. Because today was the class assignment. This work was boring for Sage. Academy classes sounded exciting in theory. In reality? Sage was getting bored. By the door, the professor was giving a lesson to the students.
"And that's why mana circulation requires balance between the inner core and outer channels."
The professor continued speaking. Sage was sitting in the center of the class, suffering through today's lesson. Beside him, Walter was seriously writing notes, like a model student. On the other side, by the window desk, Sophia sat calmly. Unlike most students, she was actually focused on the class lesson.
Sage couldn't understand these people. How did they really enjoy classes?
"Hey Walter, I'm getting bored," Sage asked Walter.
"So what should I do? Just focus on the class lesson quietly," Walter replied.
Sage clicked his tongue. His brother was becoming a topper.
The professor suddenly slammed a book onto Sage's desk.
"Boom!" The classroom immediately became silent.
The old professor smiled. "Now that all of you idiots are listening to me..."
Sage felt a bad feeling in his chest.
"I think we're getting screwed a lot," Sage muttered.
"The academy has decided to give your class its first official assignment." Hearing this, the whole class spread into happiness. But some students were not happy. But Sage was the least happy in the silent class. "So, your first assignment will begin tomorrow morning. Step into an old dungeon!"
Walter stood up from his desk in excitement. "Really, sir? We're really going on our first dungeon tomorrow?"
The professor nodded. "Yes, my dear Walter." The professor snapped his fingers. A magic screen appeared on the blackboard. There was an image of an old dungeon. In the image there are some cracked pillars, walls caved in, giant underground halls. Then the old professor continued the lecture.
"This dungeon was discovered only a few months ago," the professor spoke seriously. "Inside the ruins, many old artifacts have been found."
Now students were paying attention to the lecture seriously. "Your objective is simple," the professor pointed toward the image. "Explore and collect information, and recover the old artifacts."
A student raised his hand. "Professor, but what kind of artifacts?"
The professor smiled excitedly. "Look, there are many artifacts, like old weapons, lost treasures, historical records."
The classroom became even more excited after this.
Then the professor casually added, "Some researchers even believe the dungeon contains relics connected to the king of hell and the king of heaven." Sage froze like a wall. Even Sophia and Walter were surprised.
The professor said, "Silence students, these claims are unconfirmed. But several researchers mention both kings." Sage acted to calm down... but inside, his brain was screaming, "Why my stuff is inside a dungeon? I never wrote this."
The professor continued his talking. But Sage wasn't listening anymore.
He thought only about timeline events that were changed. "Another event happened that never existed in the novel."
A dungeon connected to the king of hell?
The school bell rang finally. After the bell rang, some students went to the canteen. Some students were discussing the assignment in class. Excitement filled the whole class.
Sage stood and stretched his arms. "Hey Walter, you are really going to the dungeon tomorrow?"
"Of course Sage. I want to know what happens in the dungeon."
Later that afternoon, students gathered outside the academy cafeteria. Everyone was talking about the dungeon.
Sage sat beneath a tree eating three corn sandwiches. Walter sat nearby Sage and was reading a book.
"You know Walter," Sage pointed at him, "one day I'm going to burn this shit, messed-up book."
Walter turned a page of the book. "But Sage, you can't use fire magic. You're zero talent!"
"That hurts, Walter!"
Then Sophia came in a shadow form. Sage looked up. "Sophia. Hello my lovely girlfriend!"
Sophia hesitated, then sat beside him. "Sage, what do you think about the dungeon?" Sophia spoke.
Sage shrugged. "I don't know what will happen with that dungeon."
They stayed silent for a few minutes. Off in the distance, on the academy side, a mysterious figure stood and was watching them.
"So you are here. My king, I have been waiting several years to meet you. For the first time in countless years."
A small smile appeared on his face.
A soldier suddenly appeared beside him and bowed down.
"My lord commander, the commander is also here," a faint voice said.
"What? Sophia? She is also the kind king."
The thought almost made him alive was his king. His voice was barely above a whisper.
"We are waiting for you, my king." Far away inside the academy.
Sage sneezed, then again sneezed. Walter looked up from his book.
"Sage, you alright? Are you sick?"
"No, I feel like somebody is talking about me."
"But Sage, you're not special!"
